Actor and producer Tye Sheridan shines on the screen by capturing audiences with his raw talent and unmatched versatility. Sheridan made an unforgettable debut at the tender age of 11 in Terrence Malick's cinematic masterpiece, "The Tree of Life," where he shared the screen with Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain. He secured his breakout role in the film when he was recruited for an audition. After enduring a year-long process and triumphing over 10,000 other hopefuls, the role became his. Premiering to critical acclaim at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, the film clinched the prestigious Palme d'Or and earned three Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Sheridan's portrayal garnered well-deserved recognition, propelling him into IndieWire's esteemed "Top 25 Filmmakers and Actors" of 2011. Since this auspicious beginning, Sheridan has consistently delivered performances marked by depth, complexity, and insight, collaborating with some of the industry's most creative filmmakers.
Sheridan next stars in and produced ASPHALT CITY, opposite Sean Penn, which premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in competition under the title BLACK FLIES. For this role, Variety presented him with a Breakthrough Award, which highlights actors whose work has them poised to be some of the most promising talent in the business. Directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire and scripted by Ryan King, ASPHALT CITY is an adaptation of a Shannon Burke novel, an intense thriller about lifesaving paramedics and the toll the job takes on them. Sheridan stars as Ollie Cross, an idealistic young man preparing for medical school who gets a street-side view of things, when he drives an ambulance alongside a grizzled veteran (Penn) who is considered to be one of the city’s best emergency medics. Tye launched his production company, Dogwood Pictures, with this feature as its debut film. Roadside Attractions acquired the North American film rights and will release theatrically in March 2024. Metropolitan will be releasing the film in France on April 3rd and on streaming on Amazon in the UK on April 19th, with FilmNation handling worldwide sales.
Sheridan will soon be seen in Justin Kurzel’s highly anticipated film, "THE ORDER," alongside Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult. In this gripping thriller, a determined FBI agent sets out on a mission to apprehend a radical group led by a charismatic leader.
Sheridan was most recently seen in George Clooney’s THE TENDER BAR for Amazon, starring opposite Ben Affleck. THE TENDER BAR adapts the memoir of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning author J.R. Moehringer, recounting Moehringer’s (Sheridan) adolescent years as he grows up on Long Island in search of a father figure among the patrons at his uncle’s (Affleck) bar. The film was released theatrically in December 2021.
Previously, Sheridan could be seen in the critically acclaimed THE CARD COUNTER, opposite Willem Dafoe, Oscar Isaac, and Tiffany Haddish. Written and directed by Paul Schrader, the film was one of the National Board of Review’s Top 10 Independent Films; opposite Colin Farrell in Neil Berger’s VOYAGERS for Lionsgate; and in Stephen Soderbergh’s thriller, WIRELESS, for Quibi which re-released on Roku in August 2021. In 2019, he reprised his role as Scott Summers/Cyclops in the latest installment of the X-MEN franchise, X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX for which he received a Kids’ Choice Award nomination. He also starred as the lead in Spielberg’s 2018 adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best-seller READY PLAYER ONE for Warner Bros. For this role, Sheridan received nominations for MTV Movie & TV Awards as well as Teen Choice Awards.
In addition to big budget films, Sheridan has also led a handful of character-driven independent films including THE NIGHT CLERK opposite Ana De Armas, about a young man with Asperger’s (Sheridan), who works the night shift at the front desk of a hotel. When a murder takes place at the hotel, he quickly becomes the main suspect. Sheridan also produced the feature; Alexandre Moors’ film adaptation of Kevin Power’s novel THE YELLOW BIRDS opposite Jennifer Aniston and Jack Huston; the psychological thriller DETOUR, opposite Emory Cohen and Bel Powley, Gravitas Ventures’ AGE OUT which follows a young drifter (Sheridan) fresh out of foster care at age 18, who turns to petty crime to survive and discovers an impossible love in an unlikely friend (Imogen Poots); and THE MOUNTAIN opposite Jeff Goldblum, which is the story of a young man (Sheridan), who after losing his mother, goes to work with a doctor specializing in lobotomies and therapies. The film premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2015, Sheridan starred in the three films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He co-starred opposite Gregg Turkington and Michael Cera in the drama ENTERTAINMENT, played a prisoner in the film adaptation of “The Stanford Prison Experiment”, and appeared in Rodrigo Garcia's drama “Last Days in the Desert opposite Ewan McGregor. That year, he also had a supporting role in the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's DARK PLACES opposite Charlize Theron and the leading role in the horror comedy SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE for Paramount Pictures and could be seen opposite John Travolta in the crime thriller THE FORGER in 2014.
Following his big screen debut in TREE OF LIFE, Sheridan captured the attention of audiences and critics alike when he starred as Ellis in the Jeff Nichols directed film MUD opposite Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon- which won the 2014 Film Independent Robert Altman Award- and as Gary in the David Gordon Green directed film JOE, which stars Nicolas Cage as an ex-con who meets a 15-year-old boy, the eldest child in a homeless family headed by an alcoholic father, and is faced with the choice of redemption or ruin. For this role he received the Marcello Mastroianni Award for best upcoming young actor at the 70th Venice International Film Festival in 2013. It was these roles that confirmed what everyone already suspected: that you don’t see this type of talent very often and in 2014, he was listed as one of Variety’s “10 Actors to Watch''. Sheridan has since continued to capture everyone’s attention.
Sheridan is as creative and innovative off-camera as he is on. In 2017, he founded, alongside Nikola Todorovic, Wonder Dynamics whose focus is utilizing AI and machine learning to develop cutting-edge technologies, innovative production tools and create original content. Wonder Dynamics is building an AI platform that will significantly speed up the production and post-production process for content involving CG characters and digital worlds. The goal of the platform is to reduce the costs associated with these productions by automating the “objective” part of the process, leaving the artists with the creative, “subjective” work. By doing this, they hope to create more opportunities and empower filmmakers with visions exceeding their budget.
