Nathan Kress | Full Circle Freddie

Nathan Kress | Full Circle Freddie

On this episode of The Story & Craft Podcast, we sit down with actor, Nathan Kress!  Nathan is a former child actor who has matured into a successful adult actor, director, and producer. Nathan shares his journey from his breakout role on Nickelodeon's "iCarly" to working on the show's reboot on Paramount Plus. He opens up about the challenges of transitioning from a child to an adult actor.

Nathan also gives us a peek into his personal life - balancing family, career, and the demanding schedule of TV production. We touch on the importance of his family's support in his career.  We also talk about the joy of working with old friends on the new iCarly, as well as the creative process behind making a multi-cam sitcom.  We also get into Nathan's love for directing and his interest in producing.

We take a moment to our mutual love of BBQ, as well as his surprise engagement present to his wife - and how he and his daughter’s continue to enjoy that gift (a 1965 Mustang convertible).  This is a great chat about acting, family, and what’s next for Nathan Kress.

00:00:49,573 --> 00:00:49,994

Marc Preston: Carly.

22

00:00:50,801 --> 00:00:52,425

Marc Preston: He is a really intriguing guy.

23

00:00:52,645 --> 00:00:54,068

Marc Preston: It's really interesting to sit down and

24

00:00:54,088 --> 00:00:56,633

Marc Preston: chat with someone who grew up as a child

25

00:00:56,713 --> 00:01:00,046

Marc Preston: actor and now, at 30 years old, he's doing

26

00:01:00,126 --> 00:01:02,331

Marc Preston: other roles, but yet he's coming back to do

27

00:01:02,451 --> 00:01:03,393

Marc Preston: I Carly again.

Marc Preston: You can check it out right there, of course.

30

00:01:09,132 --> 00:01:09,953

Marc Preston: A very nice chat.

31

00:01:10,020 --> 00:01:11,766

00:01:11,806 --> 00:01:13,541

Marc Preston: time with Nathan, as always.

33

00:01:13,822 --> 00:01:17,247

Marc Preston: If you don't mind, of course, like the show

34

00:01:17,427 --> 00:01:18,850

00:01:18,890 --> 00:01:20,372

Marc Preston: That way you get notified every time

36

00:01:20,392 --> 00:01:23,303

Marc Preston: there's a new episode And you know, leave a

37

00:01:23,343 --> 00:01:25,167

Marc Preston: review, whatever you feel like doing, but

38

00:01:25,207 --> 00:01:27,171

Marc Preston: definitely want you to come back by, so do

39

00:01:27,191 --> 00:01:28,153

Marc Preston: the subscribe thing.

40

00:01:28,440 --> 00:01:30,224

Marc Preston: I don't know, do you smash the bell button?

41

00:01:30,244 --> 00:01:30,545

Marc Preston: I don't know.

42

00:01:30,565 --> 00:01:33,531

Marc Preston: We're on YouTube as well, so you smash

43

00:01:33,571 --> 00:01:35,262

Marc Preston: something, you press buttons, but basically

44

00:01:35,302 --> 00:01:36,886

Marc Preston: you're just coming back by every time

45

00:01:36,906 --> 00:01:37,709

Marc Preston: there's new episode.

46

00:01:38,070 --> 00:01:40,083

Marc Preston: That's all OK, so let's get after it.

47

00:01:40,143 --> 00:01:44,151

Marc Preston: Today is Nathan Kress Day, right here on

48

00:01:44,212 --> 00:01:45,114

Marc Preston: Story and Craft.

49

00:01:47,140 --> 00:01:48,484

Marc Preston: So have you been doing the day?

50

00:01:48,605 --> 00:01:50,410

Marc Preston: You're in the LA area, correct?

51

00:01:50,620 --> 00:01:51,442

Nathan Kress: Yes, i am.

52

00:01:51,502 --> 00:01:54,127

Nathan Kress: Yeah, we just finished, jerry and I, one of

53

00:01:54,167 --> 00:01:56,652

Nathan Kress: my castmates, we just finished a satellite

54

00:01:56,913 --> 00:01:59,524

Nathan Kress: media tour So we were doing, you know,

55

00:01:59,945 --> 00:02:02,049

Nathan Kress: starting on the East Coast morning local

56

00:02:02,109 --> 00:02:04,453

Nathan Kress: news shows and then working our way to the

57

00:02:04,493 --> 00:02:04,914

Nathan Kress: West Coast.

58

00:02:04,940 --> 00:02:07,967

Nathan Kress: So we've been up pretty early So I'm, but

59

00:02:08,007 --> 00:02:10,393

Nathan Kress: I'm, i'm very warmed up for interviews.

60

00:02:10,480 --> 00:02:12,625

Nathan Kress: So this this time's out, perfectly, i've

61

00:02:12,665 --> 00:02:14,369

Nathan Kress: gotten all my willies out and I've said my

62

00:02:14,429 --> 00:02:15,852

Nathan Kress: stupid answers already, i think.

63

00:02:16,401 --> 00:02:18,586

Marc Preston: I greatly admire folks that could stay as

64

00:02:18,647 --> 00:02:20,211

Marc Preston: fresh for the last interview as they did

65

00:02:20,251 --> 00:02:20,732

Marc Preston: for the first.

66

00:02:20,840 --> 00:02:22,484

Marc Preston: So you know that's wonderful.

67

00:02:22,544 --> 00:02:25,131

Nathan Kress: It's a lot easier when I'm doing it with

68

00:02:25,171 --> 00:02:26,802

Nathan Kress: Jerry, though, too, because I think we, at

69

00:02:26,822 --> 00:02:29,109

Nathan Kress: this point, we've just known each other for

70

00:02:29,189 --> 00:02:32,598

Nathan Kress: so long that we just we know how to work

71

00:02:32,718 --> 00:02:34,483

Nathan Kress: off of like oh, jerry is about to start

72

00:02:34,523 --> 00:02:35,065

Nathan Kress: doing a bit.

73

00:02:35,245 --> 00:02:37,632

Nathan Kress: here is how I'm going to lean into that,

74

00:02:37,760 --> 00:02:37,981

Nathan Kress: you know.

75

00:02:38,361 --> 00:02:40,366

Nathan Kress: so I think we we make a pretty good team

76

00:02:40,386 --> 00:02:42,370

Nathan Kress: when it comes to this, this press stuff,

77

00:02:42,450 --> 00:02:44,073

Nathan Kress: after years of practice.

78

00:02:44,501 --> 00:02:47,350

Marc Preston: Obviously I'm a little young for I car.

79

00:02:47,480 --> 00:02:49,107

Marc Preston: No, I was kidding, I'm a little old for I

80

00:02:49,147 --> 00:02:49,288

Marc Preston: car.

81

00:02:49,581 --> 00:02:50,784

Nathan Kress: Quite the demographic.

82

00:02:50,965 --> 00:02:52,630

Nathan Kress: You're one of those real fresh Gen Zers I

83

00:02:52,670 --> 00:02:53,942

Nathan Kress: can tell I'll go with that.

84

00:02:54,724 --> 00:02:56,869

Marc Preston: But my, my kids were a little on the young

85

00:02:56,929 --> 00:03:00,003

Marc Preston: side to the dial in And they knew they

86

00:03:00,323 --> 00:03:01,886

Marc Preston: didn't watch it as much because they, i

87

00:03:01,906 --> 00:03:04,351

Marc Preston: think, were just like kids a couple of

88

00:03:04,391 --> 00:03:06,762

Marc Preston: years older would be watching it, and so

89

00:03:06,822 --> 00:03:07,082

Marc Preston: it's funny.

90

00:03:07,102 --> 00:03:08,165

Marc Preston: I was talking to a friend of mine's

91

00:03:08,186 --> 00:03:09,269

Marc Preston: daughter last night.

92

00:03:09,329 --> 00:03:10,945

Marc Preston: Her name is Kayla, i have to give her a

93

00:03:11,025 --> 00:03:12,979

Marc Preston: producer credit because I stopped speaking

94

00:03:12,999 --> 00:03:13,160

Marc Preston: with you.

95

00:03:13,240 --> 00:03:15,405

Marc Preston: She's like, oh my God, i loved him on, i

96

00:03:15,425 --> 00:03:17,771

Marc Preston: carly, and the funny thing is she was she

97

00:03:17,811 --> 00:03:19,909

Marc Preston: was only, i think, eight years old And it

98

00:03:19,929 --> 00:03:20,331

Marc Preston: was funny.

99

00:03:20,371 --> 00:03:21,759

Marc Preston: I said, well, what was it at eight that you

100

00:03:21,819 --> 00:03:21,940

Marc Preston: like?

101

00:03:22,020 --> 00:03:24,526

Marc Preston: She said that's the way I viewed, or I

102

00:03:24,607 --> 00:03:26,913

Marc Preston: thought, teenage life would be.

103

00:03:27,560 --> 00:03:29,506

Marc Preston: It was sort of like her window to teenage

104

00:03:29,566 --> 00:03:30,670

Marc Preston: life as an eight year old.

105

00:03:30,790 --> 00:03:31,361

Marc Preston: You know So.

106

00:03:31,822 --> 00:03:34,048

Marc Preston: But she has a much, much love for you and

107

00:03:34,129 --> 00:03:36,284

Marc Preston: is all kinds of giddy, so she's looking

108

00:03:36,324 --> 00:03:37,388

Marc Preston: forward to hearing this episode.

109

00:03:37,921 --> 00:03:39,786

Marc Preston: I spoke with somebody the other day who was

110

00:03:40,026 --> 00:03:41,410

Marc Preston: pretty well known back in the 80s.

111

00:03:42,100 --> 00:03:43,644

Marc Preston: Now they're doing something, so she was

112

00:03:43,684 --> 00:03:45,930

Marc Preston: known as, like, a teen actor, but here she

113

00:03:45,990 --> 00:03:46,792

Marc Preston: is in her 50s.

114

00:03:48,522 --> 00:03:49,807

Marc Preston: I've always been curious about that

115

00:03:49,847 --> 00:03:50,369

Marc Preston: transition.

116

00:03:50,429 --> 00:03:53,099

Marc Preston: What, when is that line of demarcation

117

00:03:53,120 --> 00:03:55,228

Marc Preston: where you're not known as a kid actor

118

00:03:55,308 --> 00:03:57,437

Marc Preston: anymore, and you're you know, or is that a

119

00:03:57,477 --> 00:03:59,303

Marc Preston: kind of a sliding line, depending on the

120

00:03:59,363 --> 00:04:02,712

Marc Preston: project, or when did you become cognizant

121

00:04:02,772 --> 00:04:03,153

Marc Preston: of that?

122

00:04:04,601 --> 00:04:06,409

Nathan Kress: Yeah, it probably, like you said, is a

123

00:04:06,449 --> 00:04:08,177

Nathan Kress: sliding scale And it probably depends on

124

00:04:08,237 --> 00:04:10,204

Nathan Kress: the projects that you take on.

125

00:04:10,384 --> 00:04:13,514

Nathan Kress: I feel like if you linger in kid worlds,

126

00:04:14,055 --> 00:04:15,781

Nathan Kress: you know, especially past, whatever the

127

00:04:15,841 --> 00:04:18,187

Nathan Kress: initial show was, that made you, you know,

128

00:04:18,468 --> 00:04:21,421

Nathan Kress: that set you off and was your platform, i

129

00:04:21,441 --> 00:04:23,385

Nathan Kress: could see how you could feel a little bit

130

00:04:23,566 --> 00:04:25,812

Nathan Kress: cornered into that Marcet for a little bit

131

00:04:25,852 --> 00:04:26,172

Nathan Kress: longer.

132

00:04:26,340 --> 00:04:29,027

Nathan Kress: But it's it's just probably the first time

133

00:04:29,067 --> 00:04:31,233

Nathan Kress: you have a project where you say a bad word.

134

00:04:32,703 --> 00:04:34,911

Nathan Kress: You know, or you're in you know, a more

135

00:04:35,151 --> 00:04:37,198

Nathan Kress: adult situation, i guess.

136

00:04:37,258 --> 00:04:38,984

Nathan Kress: Or you know you transition from the

137

00:04:39,044 --> 00:04:40,509

Nathan Kress: Nickelodeon to the MTV.

138

00:04:41,070 --> 00:04:42,334

Nathan Kress: You know, right, right.

139

00:04:43,077 --> 00:04:44,982

Nathan Kress: But for me it's always hard because I have

140

00:04:45,062 --> 00:04:46,525

Nathan Kress: such a baby face.

141

00:04:47,066 --> 00:04:50,132

Nathan Kress: It's really been tough for me to play my

142

00:04:50,292 --> 00:04:51,314

Nathan Kress: own age.

143

00:04:52,180 --> 00:04:52,942

Nathan Kress: Hold on, are you now?

144

00:04:52,962 --> 00:04:54,205

Nathan Kress: by the way, i'm 30.

145

00:04:54,405 --> 00:04:55,307

Marc Preston: I just 30.

146

00:04:55,909 --> 00:04:58,093

Marc Preston: Man give me some of your genetic material

147

00:04:58,220 --> 00:04:58,441

Marc Preston: man.

148

00:04:58,964 --> 00:04:59,687

Marc Preston: I'm thinking.

149

00:04:59,727 --> 00:05:01,776

Marc Preston: I'm thinking of what I looked like when I

150

00:05:01,817 --> 00:05:04,868

Marc Preston: was 30, you know to be fair, this is the

151

00:05:04,908 --> 00:05:05,872

Marc Preston: team of professionals.

152

00:05:05,932 --> 00:05:07,959

Nathan Kress: What you, what you don't see, is what

153

00:05:07,999 --> 00:05:09,883

Nathan Kress: happens when my five year old and my two

154

00:05:09,943 --> 00:05:12,969

Nathan Kress: year old occur on this face, and how

155

00:05:13,029 --> 00:05:16,283

Nathan Kress: everything starts to sag and wear out and

156

00:05:16,343 --> 00:05:18,189

Nathan Kress: get puffy and, you know, exhausted.

157

00:05:18,270 --> 00:05:20,839

Nathan Kress: So you know, i got I got a lot of people

158

00:05:20,939 --> 00:05:23,265

Nathan Kress: backing me up and they were there at four

159

00:05:23,305 --> 00:05:25,370

Nathan Kress: o'clock this morning before that media tour.

160

00:05:25,511 --> 00:05:27,643

Nathan Kress: I can guarantee that.

161

00:05:28,224 --> 00:05:30,409

Nathan Kress: But but yeah, i think for me it has been a

162

00:05:30,449 --> 00:05:32,781

Nathan Kress: particular challenge, just because I'm only

163

00:05:33,162 --> 00:05:35,448

Nathan Kress: maybe just starting to grow into my own

164

00:05:35,548 --> 00:05:39,558

Nathan Kress: face, if I have some facial hair And so I.

165

00:05:39,799 --> 00:05:43,087

Nathan Kress: a lot of the roles that I covet in the

166

00:05:43,247 --> 00:05:44,310

Nathan Kress: adult world are.

167

00:05:44,631 --> 00:05:47,879

Nathan Kress: I'm only just now starting to approach the

168

00:05:47,919 --> 00:05:49,885

Nathan Kress: threshold of being able to pull them off

169

00:05:49,925 --> 00:05:51,289

Nathan Kress: and have the audience believe it, and that

170

00:05:51,329 --> 00:05:51,951

Nathan Kress: was kind of nice.

171

00:05:52,260 --> 00:05:54,629

Nathan Kress: you know, with this new Icarly, as an adult

172

00:05:54,669 --> 00:05:57,178

Nathan Kress: show we're supposed to be just about our

173

00:05:57,279 --> 00:05:59,285

Nathan Kress: ages, like late twenties, early thirties.

174

00:05:59,365 --> 00:06:02,475

Nathan Kress: So you know, whether or not the world is

175

00:06:02,516 --> 00:06:04,663

Nathan Kress: willing to accept it, i have a television

176

00:06:04,703 --> 00:06:06,810

Nathan Kress: show that's telling people that I can play

177

00:06:07,091 --> 00:06:08,556

Nathan Kress: a role this age.

178

00:06:08,576 --> 00:06:09,600

Marc Preston: Yeah, Well, it's funny.

179

00:06:10,102 --> 00:06:11,768

Marc Preston: You, you were in the movie Into the Storm

180

00:06:12,451 --> 00:06:14,158

Marc Preston: and just coincidentally, I spoke with Matt

181

00:06:14,198 --> 00:06:16,287

Marc Preston: Walsh last week, No kidding, And the name

182

00:06:16,307 --> 00:06:17,191

Marc Preston: of the movie escaped me.

183

00:06:17,231 --> 00:06:19,400

Marc Preston: I said you're in that tournée, the movie

184

00:06:19,520 --> 00:06:19,941

Marc Preston: the tournée.

185

00:06:19,961 --> 00:06:20,382

Marc Preston: he said yeah.

186

00:06:20,422 --> 00:06:22,005

Marc Preston: he said yeah, it's one of the top three

187

00:06:22,045 --> 00:06:22,866

Marc Preston: tornado movies.

188

00:06:23,086 --> 00:06:25,591

Marc Preston: You know he's being funny, but uh, I did

189

00:06:25,631 --> 00:06:27,517

Marc Preston: see that with my kids, I think last year,

190

00:06:27,637 --> 00:06:28,941

Marc Preston: sometime, Really.

191

00:06:29,712 --> 00:06:31,618

Marc Preston: But as far as your kids, kind of going back

192

00:06:31,638 --> 00:06:33,713

Marc Preston: to that real quick, you said you got a five

193

00:06:33,753 --> 00:06:34,456

Marc Preston: and a two year old.

194

00:06:34,676 --> 00:06:38,299

Nathan Kress: Yes, So yeah, Rosie and Evie, they're

195

00:06:38,600 --> 00:06:41,577

Nathan Kress: awesome, And actually my wife I met on into

196

00:06:41,597 --> 00:06:43,201

Nathan Kress: the storm, Oh, really.

197

00:06:43,410 --> 00:06:47,752

Nathan Kress: She was yeah, she was on the stunt team And

198

00:06:47,852 --> 00:06:50,340

Nathan Kress: we met in the last few weeks of production

199

00:06:50,651 --> 00:06:52,504

Nathan Kress: And if you look really, really close in the

200

00:06:52,605 --> 00:06:54,293

Nathan Kress: climax of it, where we're down in that

201

00:06:54,373 --> 00:06:57,712

Nathan Kress: storm drain and the big tornado is coming

202

00:06:57,752 --> 00:06:59,924

Nathan Kress: and going like right over us, we were

203

00:07:00,568 --> 00:07:03,012

Nathan Kress: positioned together by the director So we

204

00:07:03,052 --> 00:07:06,683

Nathan Kress: spent three weeks in a whole soaking wet

205

00:07:07,185 --> 00:07:09,656

Nathan Kress: with 100 mile an hour winds blowing past us

206

00:07:09,716 --> 00:07:13,353

Nathan Kress: just an absolute misery, and you know

207

00:07:13,394 --> 00:07:14,598

Nathan Kress: that's a bonding experience.

208

00:07:14,831 --> 00:07:16,316

Marc Preston: I was about to say that's, that's something

209

00:07:16,356 --> 00:07:18,073

Marc Preston: that kind of forges a bond that you can't

210

00:07:18,113 --> 00:07:19,658

Marc Preston: really get in any other way.

211

00:07:19,759 --> 00:07:20,120

Marc Preston: You know.

212

00:07:20,350 --> 00:07:22,117

Nathan Kress: Yeah, yeah, there was a group of probably

213

00:07:22,237 --> 00:07:25,198

Nathan Kress: 20 of us, a mix of actors and stunt people,

214

00:07:25,511 --> 00:07:28,247

Nathan Kress: and you know we all got pretty close after

215

00:07:28,307 --> 00:07:30,356

Nathan Kress: a shared traumatic experience like that.

216

00:07:31,190 --> 00:07:32,977

Nathan Kress: But I didn't at the time nothing really

217

00:07:32,997 --> 00:07:33,358

Nathan Kress: because I was.

218

00:07:33,510 --> 00:07:34,931

Nathan Kress: I was dating somebody else at the time, so

219

00:07:34,951 --> 00:07:37,759

Nathan Kress: she was just a co-worker who you know I got

220

00:07:37,799 --> 00:07:38,913

Nathan Kress: along with, but she got along with

221

00:07:38,953 --> 00:07:42,658

Nathan Kress: everybody else too, and so we we met on

222

00:07:42,698 --> 00:07:42,878

Nathan Kress: that.

223

00:07:42,919 --> 00:07:44,652

Nathan Kress: But we didn't really reconnect and become

224

00:07:44,692 --> 00:07:47,120

Nathan Kress: good friends until two years later, after

225

00:07:47,130 --> 00:07:48,617

Nathan Kress: because we should we film that in Michigan.

226

00:07:48,730 --> 00:07:50,897

Nathan Kress: She moved out to LA shortly after that

227

00:07:50,918 --> 00:07:52,796

Nathan Kress: movie was done and was working in the stunt

228

00:07:52,836 --> 00:07:53,057

Nathan Kress: world.

229

00:07:54,230 --> 00:07:55,254

Marc Preston: Is she still doing that now?

230

00:07:56,250 --> 00:07:58,738

Nathan Kress: No, after we got married and had kids we

231

00:07:58,779 --> 00:08:01,717

Nathan Kress: kind of thought maybe stunts is not the

232

00:08:01,778 --> 00:08:02,660

Nathan Kress: best field.

233

00:08:02,930 --> 00:08:04,656

Nathan Kress: You know it's hard to be a mom with like a

234

00:08:04,736 --> 00:08:05,900

Nathan Kress: broken neck, you know.

235

00:08:07,591 --> 00:08:08,916

Nathan Kress: And you know she didn't really do anything

236

00:08:08,956 --> 00:08:10,293

Nathan Kress: too intense, but even the stuff that she

237

00:08:10,353 --> 00:08:12,091

Nathan Kress: did she was getting pretty banged up, you

238

00:08:12,111 --> 00:08:12,291

Nathan Kress: know.

239

00:08:12,372 --> 00:08:15,080

Nathan Kress: and she'd come home and I'd say she had

240

00:08:15,100 --> 00:08:17,100

Nathan Kress: like a big goose egg on her forehead and

241

00:08:17,181 --> 00:08:18,530

Nathan Kress: bruises everywhere and stuff.

242

00:08:18,650 --> 00:08:20,637

Nathan Kress: So she was getting, she was getting pretty

243

00:08:20,678 --> 00:08:23,986

Nathan Kress: beat up And she really liked doing it but

244

00:08:24,026 --> 00:08:26,115

Nathan Kress: she didn't really feel that it was a career

245

00:08:26,196 --> 00:08:26,617

Nathan Kress: calling.

246

00:08:27,030 --> 00:08:28,595

Nathan Kress: And I feel like you really have to feel

247

00:08:28,615 --> 00:08:31,252

Nathan Kress: like stunt work is a calling, to want to

248

00:08:31,292 --> 00:08:33,940

Nathan Kress: commit to what toll that takes on your body.

249

00:08:34,271 --> 00:08:35,175

Nathan Kress: You know I would assume.

250

00:08:35,215 --> 00:08:37,236

Marc Preston: So I would assume that you really you know

251

00:08:37,417 --> 00:08:40,274

Marc Preston: for you to commit to doing it and doing it

252

00:08:40,375 --> 00:08:41,559

Marc Preston: right and being safe.

253

00:08:41,672 --> 00:08:42,710

Marc Preston: It's you really got to be into.

254

00:08:42,790 --> 00:08:44,455

Marc Preston: I think it takes a certain personality type.

255

00:08:44,516 --> 00:08:46,535

Marc Preston: But but the little ones you talk about

256

00:08:46,575 --> 00:08:48,090

Marc Preston: broken neck, i know, depending on you know,

257

00:08:48,211 --> 00:08:50,129

Marc Preston: when you have little ones, the younger they

258

00:08:50,149 --> 00:08:52,626

Marc Preston: are, the more stuff you have to carry, you

259

00:08:52,646 --> 00:08:54,132

Marc Preston: know, and you get older they don't have to

260

00:08:54,313 --> 00:08:56,779

Marc Preston: have so much stuff, you know, or you make

261

00:08:56,799 --> 00:08:57,682

Marc Preston: them carry it themselves.

262

00:08:58,112 --> 00:08:59,405

Marc Preston: Your five year olds I guess they're getting

263

00:08:59,425 --> 00:09:00,793

Marc Preston: to that age now, but you talk about the car

264

00:09:00,853 --> 00:09:02,740

Marc Preston: seats and all that and traveling is so, so

265

00:09:02,760 --> 00:09:03,061

Marc Preston: dynamic.

266

00:09:03,831 --> 00:09:04,052

Nathan Kress: Yeah.

267

00:09:04,092 --> 00:09:07,141

Marc Preston: My kids are twenty eighteen and seventeen

268

00:09:07,633 --> 00:09:09,429

Marc Preston: And my youngest just graduated from high

269

00:09:09,449 --> 00:09:09,570

Marc Preston: school.

270

00:09:09,691 --> 00:09:11,540

Marc Preston: So it's for me it's a little weird, because

271

00:09:11,962 --> 00:09:14,273

Marc Preston: they were that age two seconds ago for me,

272

00:09:14,574 --> 00:09:14,855

Marc Preston: you know.

273

00:09:15,613 --> 00:09:16,970

Marc Preston: So you have two girls, right.

274

00:09:17,090 --> 00:09:20,215

Nathan Kress: Yeah, yeah, two girls, and yeah, i keep

275

00:09:20,275 --> 00:09:20,898

Nathan Kress: hearing you.

276

00:09:21,050 --> 00:09:22,355

Nathan Kress: You've said the same thing that everybody

277

00:09:22,395 --> 00:09:24,353

Nathan Kress: else says, like just, you know, don't blank,

278

00:09:24,373 --> 00:09:26,312

Nathan Kress: because it's going to be over, but we're

279

00:09:26,352 --> 00:09:27,635

Nathan Kress: very much in the.

280

00:09:28,377 --> 00:09:30,803

Nathan Kress: The days are long, but the years are short.

281

00:09:30,991 --> 00:09:32,738

Nathan Kress: And boy, the days are long right now.

282

00:09:33,011 --> 00:09:35,826

Nathan Kress: You know it's and and that's it's so, it's

283

00:09:35,867 --> 00:09:37,433

Nathan Kress: so worth it, and I don't want to seem

284

00:09:37,714 --> 00:09:39,520

Nathan Kress: flippant and to take that for granted.

285

00:09:39,630 --> 00:09:40,673

Nathan Kress: It's just it's.

286

00:09:40,893 --> 00:09:44,401

Nathan Kress: It's because right now, especially in those

287

00:09:44,481 --> 00:09:47,695

Nathan Kress: first five years, we're just trying to put

288

00:09:47,735 --> 00:09:51,062

Nathan Kress: a lot of intentionality and effort into

289

00:09:51,143 --> 00:09:53,456

Nathan Kress: being present for them and and teaching

290

00:09:53,476 --> 00:09:55,321

Nathan Kress: them and giving them a good foundation

291

00:09:55,731 --> 00:09:58,260

Nathan Kress: right now to kickstart them off.

292

00:09:58,693 --> 00:09:59,944

Marc Preston: I was just about to say that word.

293

00:09:59,984 --> 00:10:00,610

Marc Preston: I said be present.

294

00:10:00,691 --> 00:10:02,703

Marc Preston: I mean, i was a single father when they

295

00:10:02,743 --> 00:10:03,810

Marc Preston: were very young, you know.

296

00:10:03,951 --> 00:10:05,809

Marc Preston: So they're all three diapers at the same

297

00:10:05,849 --> 00:10:07,174

Marc Preston: time And I think you can sympathize with

298

00:10:07,214 --> 00:10:09,821

Marc Preston: that, you know, because diaper diaper, age

299

00:10:10,010 --> 00:10:11,535

Marc Preston: does change the dynamic of how you move

300

00:10:11,555 --> 00:10:13,801

Marc Preston: through life, how you travel, all kinds of

301

00:10:13,841 --> 00:10:16,278

Marc Preston: things, and I remember thinking God.

302

00:10:16,358 --> 00:10:18,766

Marc Preston: You know, the one of them was crying and I

303

00:10:18,786 --> 00:10:21,966

Marc Preston: can look back on this And this kind of

304

00:10:21,987 --> 00:10:23,262

Marc Preston: sucks in a moment, but I know I'm going to

305

00:10:23,282 --> 00:10:23,526

Marc Preston: look back.

306

00:10:23,546 --> 00:10:25,130

Marc Preston: Finally, it's one thing I know I got right.

307

00:10:25,894 --> 00:10:27,423

Marc Preston: I said 10 years from now, i mean I'm going

308

00:10:27,443 --> 00:10:28,569

Marc Preston: to want one of these moments back, and I

309

00:10:28,589 --> 00:10:28,770

Marc Preston: was right.

310

00:10:29,300 --> 00:10:29,728

Nathan Kress: Yeah, absolutely.

311

00:10:30,614 --> 00:10:31,981

Nathan Kress: I think we learned a lot.

312

00:10:32,042 --> 00:10:33,288

Nathan Kress: Just just like everybody else is so

313

00:10:33,308 --> 00:10:35,625

Nathan Kress: stereotypical How much you learn between

314

00:10:35,645 --> 00:10:37,995

Nathan Kress: the first and the second kid And with the

315

00:10:38,035 --> 00:10:39,902

Nathan Kress: first one, how personally you take

316

00:10:40,163 --> 00:10:41,930

Nathan Kress: everything and how you just nitpick

317

00:10:42,652 --> 00:10:45,280

Nathan Kress: yourself and you micromanage everything and

318

00:10:45,360 --> 00:10:48,589

Nathan Kress: you just try to nail down every aspect of

319

00:10:48,609 --> 00:10:51,118

Nathan Kress: your life And then once the second one

320

00:10:51,158 --> 00:10:53,568

Nathan Kress: shows up, you just kind of throw it all to

321

00:10:53,608 --> 00:10:55,530

Nathan Kress: the wind and whatever happens happens.

322

00:10:55,530 --> 00:10:57,929

Nathan Kress: And I think I used to be so stressed with

323

00:10:58,044 --> 00:10:59,671

Nathan Kress: the first one And, granted, she had just

324

00:10:59,750 --> 00:11:00,290

Nathan Kress: kind of some.

325

00:11:00,370 --> 00:11:02,716

Nathan Kress: She was a tough baby, she had a lot of

326

00:11:02,797 --> 00:11:04,925

Nathan Kress: colicky and reflux and just a lot of

327

00:11:04,986 --> 00:11:06,355

Nathan Kress: challenges that made the baby phase really

328

00:11:06,436 --> 00:11:08,140

Nathan Kress: hard and sleep, did you?

329

00:11:08,180 --> 00:11:08,929

Marc Preston: did you have to use that?

330

00:11:09,855 --> 00:11:11,405

Marc Preston: I think it's called newtramogen, that

331

00:11:11,505 --> 00:11:12,250

Marc Preston: special formula.

332

00:11:12,531 --> 00:11:15,559

Marc Preston: It's kind of pre digested proteins or

333

00:11:15,579 --> 00:11:15,760

Marc Preston: something.

334

00:11:15,800 --> 00:11:17,013

Marc Preston: It smells Well.

335

00:11:17,033 --> 00:11:19,290

Marc Preston: The babies drink it and they burp.

336

00:11:19,857 --> 00:11:20,790

Marc Preston: It smells God awful.

337

00:11:21,437 --> 00:11:23,677

Marc Preston: It's easier on their stomach And I remember

338

00:11:23,718 --> 00:11:24,645

Marc Preston: my daughter was on that.

339

00:11:24,685 --> 00:11:25,370

Marc Preston: She had the same thing.

340

00:11:25,410 --> 00:11:27,678

Marc Preston: I was like, oh, I cannot wait till we get

341

00:11:27,698 --> 00:11:29,223

Marc Preston: her off this formula because the smell was

342

00:11:29,264 --> 00:11:30,247

Marc Preston: just terrible.

343

00:11:30,648 --> 00:11:31,110

Nathan Kress: Yeah, formula.

344

00:11:31,311 --> 00:11:32,982

Nathan Kress: I don't know what they put in formula but

345

00:11:33,063 --> 00:11:34,190

Nathan Kress: it is gnarly.

346

00:11:34,351 --> 00:11:36,150

Nathan Kress: And we only did formula with our second one.

347

00:11:36,370 --> 00:11:38,213

Nathan Kress: The first one, she was able to breastfeed

348

00:11:38,313 --> 00:11:40,496

Nathan Kress: all the way, all the way through, but still

349

00:11:40,556 --> 00:11:42,779

Nathan Kress: had all that reflux stuff because she had,

350

00:11:42,839 --> 00:11:45,021

Nathan Kress: like you know, in in vitro.

351

00:11:45,102 --> 00:11:46,904

Nathan Kress: She was pretty underdeveloped in, her

352

00:11:47,104 --> 00:11:49,107

Nathan Kress: abdomen was very small and she had to be

353

00:11:49,167 --> 00:11:51,169

Nathan Kress: induced because she just wasn't growing the

354

00:11:51,210 --> 00:11:51,530

Nathan Kress: right way.

355

00:11:51,771 --> 00:11:53,255

Nathan Kress: So we're assuming it all just kind of came

356

00:11:53,275 --> 00:11:54,740

Nathan Kress: from and she just grew out of it eventually.

357

00:11:55,211 --> 00:11:57,002

Nathan Kress: But man, the first part of it was so hard,

358

00:11:57,525 --> 00:11:58,410

Nathan Kress: like the first several months.

359

00:11:58,590 --> 00:12:00,314

Nathan Kress: But now it's gotten to the point where my

360

00:12:00,354 --> 00:12:02,638

Nathan Kress: wife and I think we're getting better at,

361

00:12:03,459 --> 00:12:05,503

Nathan Kress: when madness and chaos is happening around

362

00:12:05,583 --> 00:12:09,735

Nathan Kress: us, laughing, which I don't know if that's

363

00:12:09,775 --> 00:12:11,457

Nathan Kress: good or not, but there's just a certain,

364

00:12:11,477 --> 00:12:12,999

Nathan Kress: there's a certain point when everything

365

00:12:13,039 --> 00:12:16,484

Nathan Kress: gets so insane that you can actually have a

366

00:12:16,644 --> 00:12:19,495

Nathan Kress: decent laugh about it, just how ridiculous

367

00:12:20,297 --> 00:12:20,980

Nathan Kress: it all is.

368

00:12:21,711 --> 00:12:24,578

Nathan Kress: And you know, laugh instead of cry, i guess,

369

00:12:24,598 --> 00:12:26,081

Nathan Kress: because otherwise it would just be too

370

00:12:26,262 --> 00:12:26,823

Nathan Kress: overwhelming.

371

00:12:26,950 --> 00:12:28,635

Nathan Kress: But yeah, i think we've just gotten to the

372

00:12:28,675 --> 00:12:30,540

Nathan Kress: point where we just don't take it so

373

00:12:30,600 --> 00:12:32,140

Nathan Kress: seriously, we don't take ourselves so

374

00:12:32,201 --> 00:12:32,706

Nathan Kress: seriously.

375

00:12:32,726 --> 00:12:34,693

Marc Preston: Yeah, Once they start elementary school it

376

00:12:34,754 --> 00:12:37,680

Marc Preston: kind of dials the storm, kind of calms a

377

00:12:37,720 --> 00:12:38,522

Marc Preston: little bit, you know.

378

00:12:39,150 --> 00:12:40,775

Marc Preston: But at least you've got both y'all both

379

00:12:40,915 --> 00:12:41,216

Marc Preston: kind of.

380

00:12:41,718 --> 00:12:43,051

Marc Preston: you know it's a team effort, you know

381

00:12:43,092 --> 00:12:44,451

Marc Preston: that's always good to hear, you know.

382

00:12:44,552 --> 00:12:46,558

Marc Preston: so that's that makes life for both y'all a

383

00:12:46,578 --> 00:12:47,120

Marc Preston: lot easier.

384

00:12:47,170 --> 00:12:48,034

Marc Preston: You know, are y'all living?

385

00:12:48,970 --> 00:12:50,817

Marc Preston: Do you have family out out in California as

386

00:12:50,857 --> 00:12:51,098

Marc Preston: well?

387

00:12:51,730 --> 00:12:53,877

Nathan Kress: Yeah, my side of the family is basically

388

00:12:53,957 --> 00:12:56,432

Nathan Kress: all in California, so my parents are, you

389

00:12:56,452 --> 00:13:00,638

Nathan Kress: know, an hour away, close enough to come by

390

00:13:00,698 --> 00:13:03,623

Nathan Kress: if something crazy is happening, you know,

391

00:13:03,643 --> 00:13:05,085

Nathan Kress: and we need them in a pinch.

392

00:13:05,150 --> 00:13:09,361

Nathan Kress: And then my wife's dad flies for an airline

393

00:13:09,770 --> 00:13:12,659

Nathan Kress: So they fly, you know, on standby for free

394

00:13:12,699 --> 00:13:15,917

Nathan Kress: all the time So they're able to just come

395

00:13:16,017 --> 00:13:17,502

Nathan Kress: out, stay as long as they want.

396

00:13:17,630 --> 00:13:21,258

Nathan Kress: He can make LA his home base temporarily so

397

00:13:21,318 --> 00:13:23,683

Nathan Kress: he can keep working while they're here.

398

00:13:23,850 --> 00:13:25,938

Nathan Kress: And it's an amazing situation.

399

00:13:26,250 --> 00:13:27,133

Nathan Kress: Where is your family from?

400

00:13:27,174 --> 00:13:28,679

Nathan Kress: originally Michigan, michigan.

401

00:13:28,810 --> 00:13:29,895

Marc Preston: That's where we started this film.

402

00:13:29,950 --> 00:13:31,295

Nathan Kress: That's yeah, that's where they're all from

403

00:13:31,335 --> 00:13:32,358

Nathan Kress: and they're still based out of.

404

00:13:32,850 --> 00:13:35,337

Nathan Kress: She's the oldest of four sisters, and all

405

00:13:35,357 --> 00:13:36,900

Nathan Kress: of the sisters are in different states

406

00:13:37,101 --> 00:13:39,895

Nathan Kress: right now, and then they go from Michigan

407

00:13:39,935 --> 00:13:42,661

Nathan Kress: and just fly around to wherever any of the

408

00:13:42,842 --> 00:13:43,623

Nathan Kress: the siblings are.

409

00:13:43,750 --> 00:13:46,199

Nathan Kress: So we're we're the only ones with kids

410

00:13:46,239 --> 00:13:48,434

Nathan Kress: right now, so we get to monopolize a little

411

00:13:48,454 --> 00:13:50,118

Nathan Kress: bit of the grandparents support, which is

412

00:13:50,859 --> 00:13:51,140

Nathan Kress: awesome.

413

00:13:52,730 --> 00:13:55,017

Nathan Kress: So, yeah, we great family support, great

414

00:13:55,137 --> 00:13:58,056

Nathan Kress: neighbors, friends We're very, very lucky.

415

00:13:58,351 --> 00:14:01,230

Nathan Kress: We're definitely not on an island, that's

416

00:14:01,271 --> 00:14:01,631

Nathan Kress: for sure.

417

00:14:08,907 --> 00:14:10,350

Marc Preston: What were your days like when you were

418

00:14:10,390 --> 00:14:10,651

Marc Preston: filming?

419

00:14:10,731 --> 00:14:13,998

Nathan Kress: I, carly As a kid on the original or now.

420

00:14:15,082 --> 00:14:16,506

Marc Preston: Oh, no, no, no, i'm sorry, like right now

421

00:14:17,127 --> 00:14:19,172

Marc Preston: the recent episodes, because your

422

00:14:19,212 --> 00:14:20,856

Marc Preston: production schedule when you're doing TV

423

00:14:21,398 --> 00:14:23,103

Marc Preston: that's a big chunk of your day, and when

424

00:14:23,123 --> 00:14:25,413

Marc Preston: you come home you're wanting to decompress.

425

00:14:25,433 --> 00:14:26,678

Marc Preston: But you're coming home and you're right in

426

00:14:26,718 --> 00:14:27,079

Marc Preston: it again.

427

00:14:27,099 --> 00:14:27,280

Marc Preston: You know.

428

00:14:27,601 --> 00:14:28,344

Announcer: So, was it taxing?

429

00:14:28,404 --> 00:14:30,031

Marc Preston: at all Having small children at home while

430

00:14:30,091 --> 00:14:31,216

Marc Preston: you're filming a show.

431

00:14:33,341 --> 00:14:34,283

Nathan Kress: Yes, it is.

432

00:14:34,523 --> 00:14:40,311

Nathan Kress: It juggling the desire to want to disengage

433

00:14:40,631 --> 00:14:43,054

Nathan Kress: and be fully present with them and not

434

00:14:43,094 --> 00:14:45,317

Nathan Kress: distracted in the midst of a production

435

00:14:45,357 --> 00:14:48,082

Nathan Kress: cycle is a constant struggle, and

436

00:14:48,402 --> 00:14:49,365

Nathan Kress: especially when they're young.

437

00:14:49,505 --> 00:14:50,988

Nathan Kress: A lot of the time they were going to bed

438

00:14:51,129 --> 00:14:52,993

Nathan Kress: before I even got home.

439

00:14:53,621 --> 00:14:55,584

Nathan Kress: But I will say the massive ups.

440

00:14:55,724 --> 00:14:59,010

Nathan Kress: I'm so grateful that right now my career

441

00:14:59,070 --> 00:15:00,532

Nathan Kress: has me at a place where I'm doing a

442

00:15:00,752 --> 00:15:04,422

Nathan Kress: multi-cam sitcom, because if you know

443

00:15:04,782 --> 00:15:08,646

Nathan Kress: production schedules at all, it is the best,

444

00:15:08,947 --> 00:15:12,070

Nathan Kress: most relaxed, most consistent and most

445

00:15:12,290 --> 00:15:15,874

Nathan Kress: normal work schedule of any television

446

00:15:16,034 --> 00:15:18,296

Nathan Kress: project or movie for that matter that you

447

00:15:18,336 --> 00:15:21,645

Nathan Kress: could ever do, because you're only

448

00:15:21,765 --> 00:15:24,070

Nathan Kress: rehearsing two to three days a week and

449

00:15:24,110 --> 00:15:26,274

Nathan Kress: then shooting the other two or three days.

450

00:15:26,541 --> 00:15:29,207

Nathan Kress: So rehearsals are maybe eight hours long.

451

00:15:29,348 --> 00:15:31,613

Nathan Kress: So I have kind of a typical nine to five,

452

00:15:31,814 --> 00:15:33,719

Nathan Kress: and then my last two days of the week are

453

00:15:33,739 --> 00:15:34,280

Nathan Kress: longer.

454

00:15:34,967 --> 00:15:36,280

Nathan Kress: And how many episodes did y'all shoot?

455

00:15:37,362 --> 00:15:40,086

Nathan Kress: We did 13 in the first season and then,

456

00:15:40,927 --> 00:15:42,650

Nathan Kress: right after that, i think, paramount made

457

00:15:42,670 --> 00:15:44,212

Nathan Kress: the call that all of their shows were going

458

00:15:44,232 --> 00:15:46,135

Nathan Kress: to be capped at 10 episodes per season.

459

00:15:46,360 --> 00:15:46,601

Marc Preston: Really.

460

00:15:46,641 --> 00:15:49,147

Marc Preston: Yeah, I know some shows have bumped down to

461

00:15:49,267 --> 00:15:51,453

Marc Preston: eight and I think my son and I just got

462

00:15:51,473 --> 00:15:53,618

Marc Preston: done watching a series that was even just

463

00:15:53,658 --> 00:15:54,280

Marc Preston: six episodes.

464

00:15:55,027 --> 00:15:56,280

Marc Preston: That wasn't really satisfying enough.

465

00:15:56,621 --> 00:16:00,189

Nathan Kress: Yeah, it's a difficult casualty from the

466

00:16:00,289 --> 00:16:03,863

Nathan Kress: streaming service model You used to, even

467

00:16:03,903 --> 00:16:05,045

Nathan Kress: for multi-cam sitcoms.

468

00:16:05,085 --> 00:16:10,073

Nathan Kress: You had a 22, 26 episode run and you got to

469

00:16:10,113 --> 00:16:11,736

Nathan Kress: really flesh out the stories and do

470

00:16:11,756 --> 00:16:12,898

Nathan Kress: different stuff with the characters and

471

00:16:12,938 --> 00:16:15,882

Nathan Kress: have longer arcs And we've had to really

472

00:16:16,023 --> 00:16:21,671

Nathan Kress: truncate these characters and do things a

473

00:16:21,731 --> 00:16:23,674

Nathan Kress: little bit faster than maybe we would have

474

00:16:23,694 --> 00:16:24,135

Nathan Kress: wanted to.

475

00:16:25,081 --> 00:16:26,364

Nathan Kress: You really hit your groove at around

476

00:16:26,444 --> 00:16:30,071

Nathan Kress: episode nine or ten and it stinks that.

477

00:16:30,091 --> 00:16:31,874

Nathan Kress: That's now right when the season ends.

478

00:16:33,223 --> 00:16:35,029

Nathan Kress: So it's a little bit of a bummer.

479

00:16:35,300 --> 00:16:37,365

Nathan Kress: But fortunately we had the benefit of an

480

00:16:37,445 --> 00:16:41,235

Nathan Kress: entire show's worth of lore and character

481

00:16:41,295 --> 00:16:42,859

Nathan Kress: development to build off of something, and

482

00:16:42,879 --> 00:16:44,553

Nathan Kress: it already existed, so we didn't have to

483

00:16:44,613 --> 00:16:45,280

Nathan Kress: start completely fresh.

484

00:16:47,726 --> 00:16:49,150

Nathan Kress: So we had something going for us where we

485

00:16:49,170 --> 00:16:51,115

Nathan Kress: could hit the ground running, maybe more

486

00:16:51,155 --> 00:16:53,280

Nathan Kress: than a brand new show with totally new IP.

487

00:16:54,062 --> 00:16:56,707

Marc Preston: Well, that brings up the question of here

488

00:16:56,767 --> 00:16:59,492

Marc Preston: you are doing a show with folks you have

489

00:16:59,553 --> 00:17:00,855

Marc Preston: acted with before.

490

00:17:01,296 --> 00:17:02,538

Marc Preston: Was there a shorthand, was there an ease?

491

00:17:02,559 --> 00:17:03,260

Marc Preston: Could you ease back into it?

492

00:17:03,803 --> 00:17:07,240

Marc Preston: Or was everybody's life in your 2023?

493

00:17:08,229 --> 00:17:09,280

Marc Preston: Was their life so different?

494

00:17:09,802 --> 00:17:11,429

Marc Preston: Was it kind of like meeting them for the

495

00:17:11,449 --> 00:17:13,176

Marc Preston: first time again or working with them for

496

00:17:13,196 --> 00:17:14,240

Marc Preston: the first time again, in a way?

497

00:17:17,031 --> 00:17:19,059

Nathan Kress: I was a little nervous about that at the

498

00:17:19,079 --> 00:17:19,280

Nathan Kress: beginning.

499

00:17:20,082 --> 00:17:21,746

Nathan Kress: I wasn't sure if it would be like riding a

500

00:17:21,766 --> 00:17:23,390

Nathan Kress: bike or if it was going to be very awkward

501

00:17:23,450 --> 00:17:23,952

Nathan Kress: and clunky.

502

00:17:24,822 --> 00:17:25,203

Nathan Kress: Then it was.

503

00:17:25,303 --> 00:17:26,909

Nathan Kress: You know what is the expectation?

504

00:17:27,701 --> 00:17:30,166

Nathan Kress: Is the network going to be disappointed in

505

00:17:30,267 --> 00:17:34,376

Nathan Kress: us if it's not the same kind of snappy

506

00:17:34,476 --> 00:17:36,260

Nathan Kress: chemistry and magic that there was before,

507

00:17:36,841 --> 00:17:42,168

Nathan Kress: but luckily I mean other than the kind of

508

00:17:42,248 --> 00:17:44,671

Nathan Kress: understandable freshman jitters of figuring

509

00:17:44,851 --> 00:17:47,255

Nathan Kress: out, you know, are we taking our characters

510

00:17:47,295 --> 00:17:48,136

Nathan Kress: in the right direction?

511

00:17:48,380 --> 00:17:50,044

Nathan Kress: I think the nerves were more on the

512

00:17:50,124 --> 00:17:52,549

Nathan Kress: individual of you know.

513

00:17:52,690 --> 00:17:54,073

Nathan Kress: Are we doing the right thing?

514

00:17:54,360 --> 00:17:55,947

Nathan Kress: Are we doing our characters justice?

515

00:17:56,922 --> 00:17:59,420

Nathan Kress: Is it enough like how it used to be, but is

516

00:17:59,440 --> 00:18:01,526

Nathan Kress: it also new enough at the same time?

517

00:18:01,667 --> 00:18:04,303

Nathan Kress: finding that balance, that was the part

518

00:18:04,344 --> 00:18:05,447

Nathan Kress: that was more nerve-wracking.

519

00:18:06,340 --> 00:18:09,325

Nathan Kress: But once we all got in the same room by the

520

00:18:09,365 --> 00:18:10,988

Nathan Kress: end of the first day, it was just.

521

00:18:11,969 --> 00:18:14,834

Nathan Kress: It just felt exactly like how it felt.

522

00:18:15,280 --> 00:18:18,389

Nathan Kress: It was like putting on a cozy blanket.

523

00:18:18,910 --> 00:18:23,011

Nathan Kress: You know It's a safe place for me, honestly,

524

00:18:23,460 --> 00:18:25,303

Nathan Kress: it's just a place with people that I know

525

00:18:25,343 --> 00:18:29,569

Nathan Kress: and love, who we all care so much about the

526

00:18:29,629 --> 00:18:32,854

Nathan Kress: show and are so collaborative in the

527

00:18:32,894 --> 00:18:33,374

Nathan Kress: process.

528

00:18:35,763 --> 00:18:38,970

Nathan Kress: Miranda is an executive producer and holds

529

00:18:39,071 --> 00:18:41,917

Nathan Kress: a ton of creative control, but she doesn't

530

00:18:42,478 --> 00:18:43,240

Nathan Kress: hold that over anyone.

531

00:18:44,083 --> 00:18:45,808

Nathan Kress: It's very much a team effort and we have a

532

00:18:45,969 --> 00:18:48,939

Nathan Kress: lot of conversations about the best ways

533

00:18:48,959 --> 00:18:51,424

Nathan Kress: forward And everybody's opinion is welcome.

534

00:18:51,565 --> 00:18:55,272

Nathan Kress: Our writers are so, so collaborative and

535

00:18:55,312 --> 00:18:56,962

Nathan Kress: welcoming to that And we're so thankful for

536

00:18:57,002 --> 00:18:58,507

Nathan Kress: that, because a lot of shows are not that

537

00:18:58,568 --> 00:18:59,190

Nathan Kress: way, you know.

538

00:18:59,701 --> 00:19:01,204

Nathan Kress: But I think they have some trust in us

539

00:19:01,344 --> 00:19:04,070

Nathan Kress: being the voices of those characters for so

540

00:19:04,130 --> 00:19:06,582

Nathan Kress: long and knowing what Well, that's the

541

00:19:06,602 --> 00:19:08,273

Nathan Kress: beauty of TV, you know.

542

00:19:08,454 --> 00:19:10,143

Marc Preston: Especially with series, You're rotating

543

00:19:10,184 --> 00:19:11,167

Marc Preston: directors regularly.

544

00:19:11,501 --> 00:19:14,409

Marc Preston: You really take ownership of the character

545

00:19:14,489 --> 00:19:15,091

Marc Preston: after a while.

546

00:19:15,983 --> 00:19:17,460

Nathan Kress: Right, and it's all new director And

547

00:19:17,520 --> 00:19:20,566

Nathan Kress: basically the only people who came over,

548

00:19:21,367 --> 00:19:23,952

Nathan Kress: even on the creative side, were Miranda,

549

00:19:23,992 --> 00:19:27,304

Nathan Kress: Jerry and I, The showrunner, the writers,

550

00:19:28,166 --> 00:19:30,791

Nathan Kress: everybody is brand new.

551

00:19:33,542 --> 00:19:36,948

Nathan Kress: So that is where I think they relied on us

552

00:19:37,028 --> 00:19:40,333

Nathan Kress: a little bit and trusted us to sort of

553

00:19:40,474 --> 00:19:42,103

Nathan Kress: steer the ship, at least for ourselves

554

00:19:42,203 --> 00:19:44,330

Nathan Kress: individually and then together as a whole,

555

00:19:44,410 --> 00:19:45,996

Nathan Kress: when we would put our heads together and

556

00:19:46,056 --> 00:19:46,758

Nathan Kress: collaborate on.

557

00:19:46,778 --> 00:19:49,394

Nathan Kress: You know, does this feel like I, Carly, or

558

00:19:49,434 --> 00:19:49,978

Nathan Kress: not, you know?

559

00:19:50,941 --> 00:19:54,847

Nathan Kress: So we're again, just I'm so, so grateful

560

00:19:54,907 --> 00:19:57,872

Nathan Kress: for our writing team just being willing to

561

00:19:58,473 --> 00:19:59,674

Nathan Kress: have that conversation.

562

00:19:59,875 --> 00:20:01,603

Nathan Kress: You know, Because we're in a very unique

563

00:20:02,224 --> 00:20:04,929

Nathan Kress: spot where no other show has really done

564

00:20:04,949 --> 00:20:06,452

Nathan Kress: this, where it's an honest to goodness,

565

00:20:06,492 --> 00:20:09,966

Nathan Kress: kids show that transition to an adult show

566

00:20:10,086 --> 00:20:12,852

Nathan Kress: with a lot of the same characters and not

567

00:20:12,932 --> 00:20:15,627

Nathan Kress: just oh, we're rebooting it and they're old

568

00:20:15,687 --> 00:20:17,742

Nathan Kress: now, but it's about the kids, It's the next

569

00:20:17,802 --> 00:20:18,905

Nathan Kress: generation, you know.

570

00:20:20,641 --> 00:20:23,529

Nathan Kress: That, I feel like, is the traditional model,

571

00:20:24,300 --> 00:20:26,708

Nathan Kress: But we just kept going.

572

00:20:27,641 --> 00:20:29,806

Nathan Kress: So there's different needs.

573

00:20:30,327 --> 00:20:32,732

Nathan Kress: I think, creatively in a show like that,

574

00:20:33,280 --> 00:20:35,423

Nathan Kress: Being able to help out and kind of be at

575

00:20:35,463 --> 00:20:39,028

Nathan Kress: the forefront has been just so, so great

576

00:20:39,188 --> 00:20:43,794

Nathan Kress: and fulfilling to be able to be involved in

577

00:20:43,874 --> 00:20:44,855

Nathan Kress: bringing this to the fans.

578

00:20:45,300 --> 00:20:47,280

Marc Preston: Now, which streamer is this going to be on?

579

00:20:47,581 --> 00:20:50,728

Nathan Kress: This is on Paramount Plus, which also has

580

00:20:50,928 --> 00:20:52,892

Nathan Kress: all of the episodes of the old show as well

581

00:20:53,280 --> 00:20:55,017

Nathan Kress: 2007,.

582

00:20:55,139 --> 00:20:55,260

Marc Preston: Right?

583

00:20:55,320 --> 00:20:58,963

Marc Preston: Was that the original air Doing this?

584

00:21:00,326 --> 00:21:00,567

Marc Preston: is it?

585

00:21:00,967 --> 00:21:02,370

Marc Preston: do you have this kind of sensation where

586

00:21:02,390 --> 00:21:04,735

Marc Preston: you want to bounce back into something new,

587

00:21:04,855 --> 00:21:06,679

Marc Preston: something adult, something you know, or

588

00:21:06,719 --> 00:21:08,629

Marc Preston: more adult, let's say, or are you kind of

589

00:21:08,689 --> 00:21:09,978

Marc Preston: enjoying this moment and kind of want to

590

00:21:09,998 --> 00:21:10,280

Marc Preston: stick with it?

591

00:21:11,182 --> 00:21:12,504

Marc Preston: You mentioned creatively?

592

00:21:12,565 --> 00:21:13,827

Marc Preston: is this something where you want to be

593

00:21:13,867 --> 00:21:15,290

Marc Preston: doing this for a while, or are you kind of

594

00:21:15,310 --> 00:21:16,873

Marc Preston: want to put something different in the mix?

595

00:21:18,642 --> 00:21:22,507

Nathan Kress: It's so hard to say because, again, I love

596

00:21:22,588 --> 00:21:25,792

Nathan Kress: this show so much and I love that we're

597

00:21:25,892 --> 00:21:28,861

Nathan Kress: able to keep these characters going And I

598

00:21:28,901 --> 00:21:30,524

Nathan Kress: think there's a lot of story left,

599

00:21:30,585 --> 00:21:32,308

Nathan Kress: especially with how things are going to

600

00:21:32,328 --> 00:21:34,292

Nathan Kress: change for the characters in the third

601

00:21:34,372 --> 00:21:40,765

Nathan Kress: season, For the fact that it's something

602

00:21:41,005 --> 00:21:47,670

Nathan Kress: that people loved as kids and I would like

603

00:21:47,931 --> 00:21:49,312

Nathan Kress: nine times out of ten.

604

00:21:49,472 --> 00:21:51,574

Nathan Kress: The reaction for people who have actually

605

00:21:51,674 --> 00:21:55,177

Nathan Kress: seen the new show is that they feel that

606

00:21:55,217 --> 00:21:56,157

Nathan Kress: we've done it justice.

607

00:21:57,101 --> 00:21:58,865

Nathan Kress: It's the same enough but different enough

608

00:21:58,945 --> 00:22:00,127

Nathan Kress: to keep them engaged.

609

00:22:00,588 --> 00:22:02,712

Nathan Kress: We want to keep that going and keep telling

610

00:22:02,732 --> 00:22:04,675

Nathan Kress: that story for essentially as long as we're

611

00:22:04,715 --> 00:22:06,979

Nathan Kress: welcome, you know, and as long as people

612

00:22:06,999 --> 00:22:07,280

Nathan Kress: keep liking it.

613

00:22:07,882 --> 00:22:10,048

Nathan Kress: So I could see doing this for a long time

614

00:22:10,148 --> 00:22:12,154

Nathan Kress: and then, selfishly, like I said before,

615

00:22:12,455 --> 00:22:13,999

Nathan Kress: it's the best schedule ever if you want to

616

00:22:14,019 --> 00:22:14,280

Nathan Kress: have a family.

617

00:22:15,041 --> 00:22:17,365

Nathan Kress: So while the kids are young, I can have

618

00:22:17,425 --> 00:22:19,388

Nathan Kress: consistent hours and I'm not in Vancouver

619

00:22:19,428 --> 00:22:22,593

Nathan Kress: doing night shoots in spandex, you know, as

620

00:22:22,773 --> 00:22:26,462

Nathan Kress: a superhero, And that would be so cool in

621

00:22:26,502 --> 00:22:27,083

Nathan Kress: its own way.

622

00:22:27,283 --> 00:22:30,787

Nathan Kress: But in the real life Nathan Kress phase

623

00:22:30,807 --> 00:22:33,450

Nathan Kress: that I'm in right now with young kids, this

624

00:22:33,570 --> 00:22:37,034

Nathan Kress: is the best balance for a work life

625

00:22:37,494 --> 00:22:38,035

Nathan Kress: engagement.

626

00:22:38,235 --> 00:22:39,981

Marc Preston: Icarly was originally a Nickelodeon show,

627

00:22:40,001 --> 00:22:40,362

Marc Preston: correct?

628

00:22:40,863 --> 00:22:41,044

Nathan Kress: Yes.

629

00:22:41,445 --> 00:22:42,921

Nathan Kress: OK, And technically they're still involved

630

00:22:43,156 --> 00:22:44,020

Nathan Kress: at the studio level.

631

00:22:44,155 --> 00:22:45,561

Nathan Kress: So the executives and stuff that we're

632

00:22:45,581 --> 00:22:48,381

Nathan Kress: working with are people that I've known for

633

00:22:48,963 --> 00:22:51,278

Nathan Kress: years and years, including just being a

634

00:22:51,338 --> 00:22:54,036

Nathan Kress: director on other Nickelodeon shows after

635

00:22:54,096 --> 00:22:56,162

Nathan Kress: Icarly ended, where those are people that I

636

00:22:56,283 --> 00:22:57,526

Nathan Kress: interacted with frequently.

637

00:22:57,978 --> 00:23:00,115

Marc Preston: What creatively do you want to if you're

638

00:23:00,175 --> 00:23:01,622

Marc Preston: looking five years down the road?

639

00:23:01,655 --> 00:23:02,980

Marc Preston: what kind of things would you like to be

640

00:23:03,040 --> 00:23:05,120

Marc Preston: doing if it's different than this?

641

00:23:05,315 --> 00:23:07,824

Marc Preston: What kind of film are you more directing,

642

00:23:07,915 --> 00:23:08,518

Marc Preston: or maybe writing?

643

00:23:09,221 --> 00:23:09,442

Nathan Kress: Right.

644

00:23:09,555 --> 00:23:13,326

Nathan Kress: So first off, yeah, on the directing side,

645

00:23:13,415 --> 00:23:15,503

Nathan Kress: i've been directing since 2014.

646

00:23:15,555 --> 00:23:17,904

Nathan Kress: So I've done about 20 episodes of TV,

647

00:23:18,095 --> 00:23:19,600

Nathan Kress: including several episodes of the new

648

00:23:19,620 --> 00:23:20,443

Nathan Kress: Icarly.

649

00:23:21,335 --> 00:23:23,002

Nathan Kress: So I definitely want to keep doing that.

650

00:23:23,095 --> 00:23:25,398

Nathan Kress: I love directing Multicam, growing up on it.

651

00:23:26,080 --> 00:23:28,466

Nathan Kress: It's really difficult to learn how to do.

652

00:23:28,675 --> 00:23:31,315

Nathan Kress: You kind of have to just be around it and

653

00:23:31,355 --> 00:23:32,841

Nathan Kress: have experience with it to know how.

654

00:23:32,881 --> 00:23:34,618

Nathan Kress: There's no class, there's no film school

655

00:23:34,658 --> 00:23:35,220

Nathan Kress: you can go to.

656

00:23:35,260 --> 00:23:37,499

Nathan Kress: for Multicam, is that easier or more

657

00:23:37,519 --> 00:23:37,940

Nathan Kress: difficult?

658

00:23:37,981 --> 00:23:38,262

Nathan Kress: for you?

659

00:23:39,177 --> 00:23:42,180

Nathan Kress: It's a lot more difficult Because with

660

00:23:42,341 --> 00:23:44,878

Nathan Kress: Singlecam you just know I'm going to get my

661

00:23:45,018 --> 00:23:47,036

Nathan Kress: wides, my tights, my mediums and maybe a

662

00:23:47,097 --> 00:23:47,760

Nathan Kress: couple crosses.

663

00:23:48,415 --> 00:23:53,618

Nathan Kress: With Multicam, it's a dialect, it's like a

664

00:23:53,779 --> 00:23:56,053

Nathan Kress: language, and you're not totally by

665

00:23:56,073 --> 00:23:56,235

Nathan Kress: yourself.

666

00:23:56,476 --> 00:23:57,841

Nathan Kress: You're working with an associate director,

667

00:23:57,862 --> 00:24:00,342

Nathan Kress: a camera coordinator, who will sit down

668

00:24:00,362 --> 00:24:03,141

Nathan Kress: with you and say OK, so a B camera is going

669

00:24:03,161 --> 00:24:05,260

Nathan Kress: to have a single here, but after this actor

670

00:24:05,300 --> 00:24:06,798

Nathan Kress: says this line, it's going to pan over here

671

00:24:06,818 --> 00:24:10,122

Nathan Kress: and get this two shot, while X goes to that

672

00:24:10,222 --> 00:24:11,577

Nathan Kress: character because they're going to cross

673

00:24:11,657 --> 00:24:12,099

Nathan Kress: over here.

674

00:24:12,675 --> 00:24:16,986

Nathan Kress: So Multicam has this hybrid of television

675

00:24:17,026 --> 00:24:20,022

Nathan Kress: and theater where you're staging it on a

676

00:24:20,082 --> 00:24:21,957

Nathan Kress: set with a proscenium where you only have

677

00:24:22,118 --> 00:24:24,336

Nathan Kress: three walls and then the audience is the

678

00:24:24,356 --> 00:24:25,862

Nathan Kress: fourth wall, like a theater set.

679

00:24:26,375 --> 00:24:28,843

Marc Preston: Yeah, it sounds like have a visual ballet a

680

00:24:28,903 --> 00:24:29,245

Marc Preston: little bit.

681

00:24:29,375 --> 00:24:30,701

Marc Preston: Yes absolutely.

682

00:24:31,116 --> 00:24:33,997

Nathan Kress: It's very, very intricate Because the

683

00:24:34,138 --> 00:24:36,505

Nathan Kress: audience if you're one person with one pair

684

00:24:36,545 --> 00:24:38,161

Nathan Kress: of eyes, you can see the whole stage at one

685

00:24:38,201 --> 00:24:38,381

Nathan Kress: time.

686

00:24:38,435 --> 00:24:39,580

Nathan Kress: You're able to watch whatever you want to

687

00:24:39,600 --> 00:24:42,682

Nathan Kress: watch, but you basically have four

688

00:24:42,742 --> 00:24:45,601

Nathan Kress: perspectives that you can take at any given

689

00:24:45,662 --> 00:24:45,943

Nathan Kress: time.

690

00:24:46,115 --> 00:24:48,142

Nathan Kress: But if you have a scene with nine people in

691

00:24:48,182 --> 00:24:50,395

Nathan Kress: it, you can't just put them all together.

692

00:24:50,475 --> 00:24:51,921

Nathan Kress: They're going to be all on different sides

693

00:24:51,961 --> 00:24:52,343

Nathan Kress: of the room.

694

00:24:52,555 --> 00:24:58,307

Nathan Kress: So there is a lot of math that has to be

695

00:24:58,367 --> 00:25:01,143

Nathan Kress: done And it's a really tough skill to learn.

696

00:25:01,416 --> 00:25:03,062

Nathan Kress: And those guys those camera coordinators

697

00:25:03,082 --> 00:25:06,042

Nathan Kress: and associate directors they've been camera

698

00:25:06,122 --> 00:25:09,081

Nathan Kress: operators since the 90s on home improvement

699

00:25:09,656 --> 00:25:11,201

Nathan Kress: And they're the audience switchers for a

700

00:25:11,281 --> 00:25:12,305

Nathan Kress: live audience show.

701

00:25:12,615 --> 00:25:14,496

Nathan Kress: So they've been doing live edits And they

702

00:25:14,596 --> 00:25:16,459

Nathan Kress: know the language, they know what needs to

703

00:25:16,519 --> 00:25:17,041

Nathan Kress: happen when.

704

00:25:17,175 --> 00:25:19,343

Nathan Kress: So there's various ways into the field.

705

00:25:19,515 --> 00:25:23,566

Nathan Kress: There are pretty few pure actors who

706

00:25:23,835 --> 00:25:25,775

Nathan Kress: transition into Multicam directing, but

707

00:25:25,795 --> 00:25:28,877

Nathan Kress: there are several And I've really really

708

00:25:28,958 --> 00:25:32,499

Nathan Kress: enjoyed learning from them Because we share

709

00:25:32,519 --> 00:25:34,980

Nathan Kress: similar perspectives as the actors director,

710

00:25:35,895 --> 00:25:37,280

Nathan Kress: so I definitely wanted to do that.

711

00:25:38,355 --> 00:25:40,196

Nathan Kress: I'm producing on the show now too, which

712

00:25:40,216 --> 00:25:42,738

Nathan Kress: has given me a really good look at the nuts

713

00:25:42,778 --> 00:25:46,716

Nathan Kress: and bolts of how a production is done, and

714

00:25:46,797 --> 00:25:48,235

Nathan Kress: being involved in that has been awesome And

715

00:25:48,296 --> 00:25:50,237

Nathan Kress: that's something that I would want to do on

716

00:25:50,318 --> 00:25:51,803

Nathan Kress: any show that I act on.

717

00:25:52,575 --> 00:25:54,476

Nathan Kress: But as far as the acting stuff goes, i

718

00:25:54,756 --> 00:25:56,922

Nathan Kress: honestly would love to take a completely

719

00:25:57,643 --> 00:25:58,706

Nathan Kress: different approach.

720

00:25:59,737 --> 00:26:00,560

Nathan Kress: I love comedy.

721

00:26:01,015 --> 00:26:01,940

Nathan Kress: I love Multicam.

722

00:26:02,938 --> 00:26:05,396

Nathan Kress: If you could tell me right now you could be

723

00:26:05,517 --> 00:26:07,323

Nathan Kress: on a Multicam show for the rest of your

724

00:26:07,363 --> 00:26:09,296

Nathan Kress: life And everyone would just love it And it

725

00:26:09,336 --> 00:26:11,457

Nathan Kress: would be a rating smash And no one would

726

00:26:11,477 --> 00:26:12,501

Nathan Kress: ever get tired of it.

727

00:26:13,755 --> 00:26:14,840

Nathan Kress: I wouldn't get tired of it either.

728

00:26:14,955 --> 00:26:16,320

Nathan Kress: I would do it for the rest of my life.

729

00:26:17,075 --> 00:26:20,144

Nathan Kress: But at the same time and this is also where

730

00:26:20,164 --> 00:26:22,080

Nathan Kress: Multicam is nice you get big, long hiatuses

731

00:26:22,201 --> 00:26:23,479

Nathan Kress: usually And that's where you can go off and

732

00:26:23,519 --> 00:26:24,121

Nathan Kress: do other stuff.

733

00:26:24,555 --> 00:26:27,063

Nathan Kress: So if I could do anything other than this,

734

00:26:28,175 --> 00:26:30,463

Nathan Kress: it would be completely the other direction.

735

00:26:30,675 --> 00:26:35,747

Nathan Kress: Like gritty military drama, the Hurt Locker

736

00:26:36,575 --> 00:26:40,725

Nathan Kress: Saving Private Ryan, a cockmoot training

737

00:26:40,786 --> 00:26:44,483

Nathan Kress: day, anything in the police military vein.

738

00:26:46,135 --> 00:26:47,320

Nathan Kress: That's just been one of my interests since

739

00:26:47,380 --> 00:26:49,618

Nathan Kress: I was a really, really young kid and

740

00:26:49,699 --> 00:26:52,907

Nathan Kress: portraying that has always been something

741

00:26:52,955 --> 00:26:55,595

Nathan Kress: that I've been really interested in And

742

00:26:55,996 --> 00:27:01,579

Nathan Kress: there's always just so much story there And,

743

00:27:01,739 --> 00:27:05,895

Nathan Kress: again, tough with the face that I've had, i

744

00:27:05,915 --> 00:27:08,621

Nathan Kress: would be pretty much relegated to the

745

00:27:09,283 --> 00:27:11,808

Nathan Kress: private storming D-Day.

746

00:27:12,396 --> 00:27:15,164

Nathan Kress: Who gets brought down in the first five

747

00:27:15,204 --> 00:27:16,026

Nathan Kress: seconds of the movie.

748

00:27:16,537 --> 00:27:18,442

Nathan Kress: That was kind of where I feel like I've

749

00:27:18,482 --> 00:27:19,445

Nathan Kress: been sort of locked.

750

00:27:19,695 --> 00:27:22,187

Nathan Kress: But I'm hoping that as I've gotten older

751

00:27:22,970 --> 00:27:23,995

Nathan Kress: and I see, it.

752

00:27:24,115 --> 00:27:24,818

Marc Preston: You can start trek.

753

00:27:24,838 --> 00:27:26,558

Marc Preston: you'd be in the red shirt, Was that the one

754

00:27:26,578 --> 00:27:27,421

Marc Preston: that always get killed?

755

00:27:28,075 --> 00:27:29,681

Nathan Kress: Yeah, the really young ensign.

756

00:27:30,215 --> 00:27:32,022

Nathan Kress: Yeah, his first day on the Enterprise.

757

00:27:32,255 --> 00:27:33,541

Nathan Kress: Yeah, that would have been me.

758

00:27:33,655 --> 00:27:37,239

Nathan Kress: So I'm hoping getting into my 30s, that I

759

00:27:37,279 --> 00:27:39,796

Nathan Kress: can broaden out and get into more the

760

00:27:40,077 --> 00:27:44,707

Nathan Kress: action adventure, espionage, intrigue,

761

00:27:44,887 --> 00:27:47,981

Nathan Kress: combat, all that fun stuff would just be

762

00:27:48,202 --> 00:27:49,125

Nathan Kress: really, really cool.

763

00:27:49,835 --> 00:27:50,880

Marc Preston: Yeah, stuff blowing up.

764

00:27:51,578 --> 00:27:53,184

Nathan Kress: And that to me would be, fun.

765

00:27:53,295 --> 00:27:54,981

Marc Preston: I think when you're a kid that stuff sounds

766

00:27:55,041 --> 00:27:56,799

Marc Preston: fantastic, to be honest, something like

767

00:27:56,839 --> 00:27:56,980

Marc Preston: that.

768

00:27:57,475 --> 00:27:58,860

Marc Preston: But that even begs the question to hit

769

00:27:59,141 --> 00:28:01,679

Marc Preston: Rewind, even back when you were filming

770

00:28:01,939 --> 00:28:03,263

Marc Preston: Icarly, the original version.

771

00:28:04,438 --> 00:28:05,287

Marc Preston: What were you into?

772

00:28:05,327 --> 00:28:07,073

Marc Preston: What were you watching, what was inspiring

773

00:28:07,094 --> 00:28:07,155

Marc Preston: you?

774

00:28:07,215 --> 00:28:08,259

Marc Preston: What were you looking at going?

775

00:28:08,359 --> 00:28:09,584

Marc Preston: that's my group.

776

00:28:09,675 --> 00:28:10,921

Marc Preston: That's where I want to see myself.

777

00:28:11,436 --> 00:28:12,840

Marc Preston: What kind of movies and shows.

778

00:28:14,875 --> 00:28:15,939

Nathan Kress: Well, kind of a mix.

779

00:28:18,375 --> 00:28:21,545

Nathan Kress: So I had a very small run of acting from

780

00:28:21,565 --> 00:28:23,300

Nathan Kress: like three to six years old and then lost

781

00:28:23,340 --> 00:28:24,504

Nathan Kress: interest and decided to quit.

782

00:28:24,575 --> 00:28:27,276

Nathan Kress: But when I got back into it at around 11, i

783

00:28:27,517 --> 00:28:29,865

Nathan Kress: homeschooled from sixth to 12th grade.

784

00:28:30,095 --> 00:28:31,220

Nathan Kress: So starting in sixth and all the way

785

00:28:31,260 --> 00:28:32,638

Nathan Kress: through my high school career, when I was

786

00:28:32,738 --> 00:28:35,038

Nathan Kress: on set doing Icarly And when I was

787

00:28:35,078 --> 00:28:36,623

Nathan Kress: homeschooling and when I was actually at

788

00:28:36,684 --> 00:28:39,443

Nathan Kress: home I would try to finish my school by

789

00:28:39,603 --> 00:28:42,883

Nathan Kress: noon so I could take lunch and watch I Love

790

00:28:42,903 --> 00:28:45,040

Nathan Kress: Lucy on Daytime TV.

791

00:28:46,275 --> 00:28:49,139

Nathan Kress: I grew up on that show, i love it, still

792

00:28:49,179 --> 00:28:52,013

Nathan Kress: love it, and I think that was the first

793

00:28:52,034 --> 00:28:54,521

Nathan Kress: show where my love of multi-cam really kind

794

00:28:54,581 --> 00:28:55,744

Nathan Kress: of took off.

795

00:28:57,676 --> 00:29:02,477

Nathan Kress: As I got older it was a lot of like JAG

796

00:29:03,579 --> 00:29:06,285

Nathan Kress: NCIS stuff that I was.

797

00:29:06,385 --> 00:29:09,902

Nathan Kress: Probably I was not the demographic for it,

798

00:29:09,995 --> 00:29:13,183

Nathan Kress: but I just loved crime, procedurals, law

799

00:29:13,203 --> 00:29:13,603

Nathan Kress: and order.

800

00:29:15,675 --> 00:29:18,905

Nathan Kress: But then on the comedy side, how I met your

801

00:29:18,925 --> 00:29:20,975

Nathan Kress: mother, that was one of my favorite shows.

802

00:29:21,055 --> 00:29:23,818

Nathan Kress: That was my go to the gym And while I'm on

803

00:29:23,858 --> 00:29:26,255

Nathan Kress: the elliptical I was plowing through how I

804

00:29:26,275 --> 00:29:26,757

Nathan Kress: met your mother.

805

00:29:28,235 --> 00:29:30,248

Nathan Kress: But then, like all the way on, doctor Who,

806

00:29:30,691 --> 00:29:33,882

Nathan Kress: loved just like quirky sci-fi and the

807

00:29:33,962 --> 00:29:35,246

Nathan Kress: Britishness of it all.

808

00:29:35,656 --> 00:29:36,841

Nathan Kress: I was all over the place.

809

00:29:37,215 --> 00:29:40,396

Nathan Kress: There was no one specific vein, and I think

810

00:29:41,800 --> 00:29:44,256

Nathan Kress: that's why there's really not much that I

811

00:29:44,276 --> 00:29:48,044

Nathan Kress: would say no to as far as like oh, i don't

812

00:29:48,125 --> 00:29:52,720

Nathan Kress: do sci-fi, i don't do action, i don't do

813

00:29:53,181 --> 00:29:57,281

Nathan Kress: really human drama, i don't do whatever.

814

00:29:58,416 --> 00:30:00,322

Nathan Kress: I'm up for it all as long as it's a great

815

00:30:00,422 --> 00:30:04,535

Nathan Kress: story And really just like I just want to

816

00:30:04,575 --> 00:30:08,545

Nathan Kress: be a part of something that's eternal in

817

00:30:08,986 --> 00:30:09,868

Nathan Kress: the entertainment world.

818

00:30:10,055 --> 00:30:11,935

Marc Preston: Again, going back to the inception, leigh

819

00:30:11,955 --> 00:30:12,638

Marc Preston: Mead got going.

820

00:30:12,758 --> 00:30:14,925

Marc Preston: Was this something that was what you wanted

821

00:30:14,945 --> 00:30:15,185

Marc Preston: to do?

822

00:30:15,516 --> 00:30:17,593

Marc Preston: Or did somebody see and say this kid ought

823

00:30:17,613 --> 00:30:20,218

Marc Preston: to, let's get him in for an audition, let's

824

00:30:20,399 --> 00:30:20,579

Marc Preston: see what.

825

00:30:20,619 --> 00:30:20,960

Marc Preston: How did?

826

00:30:21,001 --> 00:30:23,216

Marc Preston: what was the genesis when you kicked off

827

00:30:23,256 --> 00:30:24,561

Marc Preston: your acting career?

828

00:30:24,815 --> 00:30:26,378

Nathan Kress: Yeah, it was basically that When I was

829

00:30:26,439 --> 00:30:28,051

Nathan Kress: three, i had no understanding of what

830

00:30:28,172 --> 00:30:28,495

Nathan Kress: acting was.

831

00:30:31,966 --> 00:30:34,614

Nathan Kress: I just watched Mr Rogers and Barney and

832

00:30:34,634 --> 00:30:37,413

Nathan Kress: Veggie Tales and memorized what I was

833

00:30:37,433 --> 00:30:41,792

Nathan Kress: hearing And I would perform it back for my

834

00:30:41,852 --> 00:30:43,248

Nathan Kress: family on camera with a microphone.

835

00:30:43,918 --> 00:30:46,188

Nathan Kress: And I didn't realize what that was, i just

836

00:30:46,208 --> 00:30:46,695

Nathan Kress: knew I liked it.

837

00:30:49,142 --> 00:30:50,065

Nathan Kress: And my parents.

838

00:30:50,466 --> 00:30:53,294

Nathan Kress: I'm so forever grateful for how they

839

00:30:53,314 --> 00:30:55,568

Nathan Kress: approached this whole thing, because they

840

00:30:55,790 --> 00:30:56,474

Nathan Kress: never, ever forced me.

841

00:30:57,818 --> 00:31:00,666

Nathan Kress: In fact they dragged their heels most of

842

00:31:00,706 --> 00:31:06,812

Nathan Kress: the time because they knew the common

843

00:31:06,852 --> 00:31:07,875

Nathan Kress: trajectory for child actors.

844

00:31:09,785 --> 00:31:11,153

Nathan Kress: They knew that the industry can chew you up

845

00:31:11,173 --> 00:31:13,083

Nathan Kress: and spit you out and that you can have a

846

00:31:13,305 --> 00:31:16,362

Nathan Kress: real mess on your hands if you don't handle

847

00:31:16,382 --> 00:31:18,475

Nathan Kress: it very gingerly and carefully.

848

00:31:18,475 --> 00:31:22,021

Nathan Kress: So they didn't really want me doing it, but

849

00:31:22,061 --> 00:31:23,793

Nathan Kress: I think enough of their friends and people

850

00:31:23,813 --> 00:31:27,188

Nathan Kress: who just saw me doing my thing, just being

851

00:31:27,228 --> 00:31:28,835

Nathan Kress: a giant ham and talking all the time.

852

00:31:29,720 --> 00:31:32,133

Nathan Kress: And my mom swears my first word was

853

00:31:32,153 --> 00:31:32,415

Nathan Kress: construction.

854

00:31:33,141 --> 00:31:34,534

Nathan Kress: At nine months old I don't see how that's

855

00:31:34,554 --> 00:31:36,382

Nathan Kress: true She swears by it.

856

00:31:38,045 --> 00:31:41,582

Nathan Kress: I was just a chatterbox And all of their

857

00:31:41,623 --> 00:31:43,644

Nathan Kress: friends were like you know, you should

858

00:31:43,684 --> 00:31:46,971

Nathan Kress: probably at least give this a try and see

859

00:31:47,011 --> 00:31:47,435

Nathan Kress: if it works out.

860

00:31:48,220 --> 00:31:50,113

Nathan Kress: If he does some stuff as a kid, there's

861

00:31:50,153 --> 00:31:52,835

Nathan Kress: college money, just see.

862

00:31:53,599 --> 00:31:55,470

Nathan Kress: And so they took me to a cattle call and

863

00:31:55,630 --> 00:31:58,840

Nathan Kress: add in the newspaper at a park And a

864

00:31:58,940 --> 00:32:01,611

Nathan Kress: bazillion kids showed up and I sat in an

865

00:32:01,691 --> 00:32:03,906

Nathan Kress: agent's lap and sang him a song And they

866

00:32:03,926 --> 00:32:04,430

Nathan Kress: could just tell.

867

00:32:04,490 --> 00:32:05,015

Nathan Kress: I just had no fear.

868

00:32:05,777 --> 00:32:07,902

Nathan Kress: You know, i was just social and was willing

869

00:32:07,962 --> 00:32:12,046

Nathan Kress: to do whatever And I wasn't going to clam

870

00:32:12,107 --> 00:32:14,524

Nathan Kress: up and be really shy and, you know, just be

871

00:32:14,544 --> 00:32:15,835

Nathan Kress: kind of outward facing at all times.

872

00:32:16,577 --> 00:32:19,548

Nathan Kress: So I got an agent out of that, started

873

00:32:19,728 --> 00:32:21,635

Nathan Kress: auditioning for various stuff.

874

00:32:22,157 --> 00:32:23,518

Nathan Kress: Didn't really do a ton, it's just kind of

875

00:32:23,558 --> 00:32:26,196

Nathan Kress: print work and some voiceover stuff, which

876

00:32:26,236 --> 00:32:28,163

Nathan Kress: was very bizarre to do at four years old.

877

00:32:28,255 --> 00:32:30,996

Nathan Kress: I didn't understand it at all, but it was

878

00:32:31,016 --> 00:32:32,883

Nathan Kress: interesting because I got close on some

879

00:32:32,943 --> 00:32:33,204

Nathan Kress: stuff.

880

00:32:33,335 --> 00:32:36,264

Nathan Kress: I know that it was between me and Johnny

881

00:32:36,304 --> 00:32:37,577

Nathan Kress: Lipnicki for Jerry McGuire.

882

00:32:38,895 --> 00:32:41,224

Nathan Kress: We were like taking turns, you know, in the

883

00:32:41,264 --> 00:32:41,424

Nathan Kress: room.

884

00:32:41,556 --> 00:32:42,621

Nathan Kress: I don't remember any of it.

885

00:32:42,675 --> 00:32:44,442

Nathan Kress: This is just what my parents told me.

886

00:32:44,975 --> 00:32:47,243

Nathan Kress: But it was funny because the reason why I

887

00:32:47,323 --> 00:32:48,842

Nathan Kress: loved it so much was because I didn't

888

00:32:48,963 --> 00:32:50,515

Nathan Kress: understand the audition process.

889

00:32:50,636 --> 00:32:51,949

Nathan Kress: I thought the audition was the job.

890

00:32:52,391 --> 00:32:53,634

Marc Preston: You know in a very real sense.

891

00:32:53,674 --> 00:32:55,279

Marc Preston: You know I coach voiceover and I tell my

892

00:32:55,319 --> 00:32:57,575

Marc Preston: students the audition is the job.

893

00:32:57,830 --> 00:32:59,296

Marc Preston: If you get the job, that's just gravy.

894

00:32:59,470 --> 00:33:00,715

Marc Preston: You know you got to look at the audition as

895

00:33:00,735 --> 00:33:03,958

Marc Preston: the job, so you know that's that for a kid.

896

00:33:03,998 --> 00:33:07,508

Marc Preston: That's not knowing everything probably

897

00:33:07,829 --> 00:33:09,715

Marc Preston: helps you to not be so nervous, you know.

898

00:33:10,016 --> 00:33:10,418

Nathan Kress: Exactly.

899

00:33:11,110 --> 00:33:12,474

Nathan Kress: My parents did a good job of making sure

900

00:33:12,494 --> 00:33:14,138

Nathan Kress: that I didn't know how the sausage got made,

901

00:33:14,759 --> 00:33:16,632

Nathan Kress: because I don't think.

902

00:33:16,732 --> 00:33:18,897

Nathan Kress: And they were right because as soon as the

903

00:33:18,958 --> 00:33:21,612

Nathan Kress: reason why I got out of acting at that age

904

00:33:21,652 --> 00:33:23,658

Nathan Kress: was because I went to a voiceover audition

905

00:33:23,678 --> 00:33:27,991

Nathan Kress: to do ADR for the Dudley Do-Right movie,

906

00:33:28,472 --> 00:33:32,001

Nathan Kress: brendan Fraser, and it was a flashback

907

00:33:32,382 --> 00:33:35,390

Nathan Kress: where it was his younger self talking and

908

00:33:35,470 --> 00:33:38,235

Nathan Kress: he used very intricate words, had a very

909

00:33:38,295 --> 00:33:40,660

Nathan Kress: elaborate vocabulary and spoke very fast

910

00:33:40,740 --> 00:33:42,323

Nathan Kress: and I couldn't do it, i couldn't match it.

911

00:33:43,150 --> 00:33:45,114

Nathan Kress: And so in that audition, for the first time

912

00:33:45,175 --> 00:33:47,760

Nathan Kress: ever, they did live cuts and said these

913

00:33:47,800 --> 00:33:50,130

Nathan Kress: people can go, these people can stay, and

914

00:33:50,190 --> 00:33:50,672

Nathan Kress: it clicked.

915

00:33:50,713 --> 00:33:54,796

Nathan Kress: In that moment I have been rejected and I

916

00:33:54,876 --> 00:33:58,450

Nathan Kress: didn't do as good as other kids did And for

917

00:33:58,491 --> 00:34:00,777

Nathan Kress: that reason I've been sent home and I

918

00:34:00,938 --> 00:34:02,831

Nathan Kress: walked out of the parking lot I remember

919

00:34:02,872 --> 00:34:05,418

Nathan Kress: this part so clearly just saying I'm not

920

00:34:05,558 --> 00:34:08,554

Nathan Kress: having fun anymore, i don't want to do this

921

00:34:08,614 --> 00:34:08,935

Nathan Kress: anymore.

922

00:34:09,370 --> 00:34:11,292

Nathan Kress: And it wasn't just that, i was also just

923

00:34:11,372 --> 00:34:13,378

Nathan Kress: missing out on being a kid and playing

924

00:34:13,418 --> 00:34:15,392

Nathan Kress: T-ball and going to school and hanging out

925

00:34:15,412 --> 00:34:16,014

Nathan Kress: with my brothers.

926

00:34:16,630 --> 00:34:18,138

Nathan Kress: But that was just the icing on the cake.

927

00:34:18,158 --> 00:34:20,048

Nathan Kress: That, finally, was the last straw that sent

928

00:34:20,089 --> 00:34:21,854

Nathan Kress: me over was oh wait a minute.

929

00:34:22,435 --> 00:34:25,772

Nathan Kress: Part of this is rejection, because I don't

930

00:34:25,812 --> 00:34:27,417

Nathan Kress: like that at six years old.

931

00:34:28,630 --> 00:34:31,242

Nathan Kress: So that kind of shattered the illusion for

932

00:34:31,282 --> 00:34:33,130

Nathan Kress: me a little bit, where I finally understood

933

00:34:33,270 --> 00:34:35,658

Nathan Kress: what an audition was, that it was not the

934

00:34:35,698 --> 00:34:36,019

Nathan Kress: job.

935

00:34:36,270 --> 00:34:39,339

Nathan Kress: So that got me out of it and I didn't want

936

00:34:39,359 --> 00:34:42,428

Nathan Kress: to get back in until I was 11 and had

937

00:34:42,489 --> 00:34:44,913

Nathan Kress: auditioned for school plays, had to face

938

00:34:44,973 --> 00:34:50,602

Nathan Kress: that rejection, got roles fair and square,

939

00:34:51,303 --> 00:34:53,813

Nathan Kress: rather than someone just handing it to me

940

00:34:54,616 --> 00:34:56,462

Nathan Kress: and being willing to accept the fact that

941

00:34:57,626 --> 00:34:59,993

Nathan Kress: most of this industry is just being told no

942

00:35:00,214 --> 00:35:01,758

Nathan Kress: over and over and over again and beating

943

00:35:01,778 --> 00:35:04,734

Nathan Kress: your head against that wall and waiting for

944

00:35:04,834 --> 00:35:09,274

Nathan Kress: someone to say yes, which sounds insane,

945

00:35:09,855 --> 00:35:13,022

Nathan Kress: that we do that voluntarily, but you have

946

00:35:13,062 --> 00:35:14,104

Nathan Kress: to because you love it so much.

947

00:35:14,370 --> 00:35:16,356

Marc Preston: But going back to your folks, what kind of

948

00:35:17,218 --> 00:35:17,820

Marc Preston: work did they do?

949

00:35:18,431 --> 00:35:19,314

Marc Preston: What kind of work do they do?

950

00:35:20,090 --> 00:35:22,876

Nathan Kress: So my mom, luckily, was able to stay home

951

00:35:23,057 --> 00:35:25,863

Nathan Kress: with us, but my dad was a police officer.

952

00:35:26,210 --> 00:35:29,298

Nathan Kress: So, yeah, that's probably where a lot of

953

00:35:29,338 --> 00:35:33,148

Nathan Kress: that the sense of duty and service and

954

00:35:33,329 --> 00:35:34,472

Nathan Kress: sacrifice came from.

955

00:35:34,954 --> 00:35:37,403

Nathan Kress: Because he was just, he did a little bit of

956

00:35:37,544 --> 00:35:39,611

Nathan Kress: everything at his department and was a

957

00:35:39,912 --> 00:35:44,143

Nathan Kress: massively commended officer who never got a

958

00:35:44,244 --> 00:35:47,297

Nathan Kress: single civilian complaint in his entire 35

959

00:35:47,357 --> 00:35:47,962

Nathan Kress: year career.

960

00:35:47,982 --> 00:35:50,415

Marc Preston: Wow, 35 years, so you retired from being a

961

00:35:50,456 --> 00:35:50,837

Marc Preston: policeman.

962

00:35:51,431 --> 00:35:52,676

Nathan Kress: Yes, so he retired.

963

00:35:53,791 --> 00:35:55,455

Nathan Kress: He still volunteers because he just can't

964

00:35:55,495 --> 00:35:56,778

Nathan Kress: quit.

965

00:35:57,099 --> 00:35:59,152

Nathan Kress: He loved flying, that was always his

966

00:35:59,172 --> 00:36:01,320

Nathan Kress: favorite assignment, so he works at the

967

00:36:01,420 --> 00:36:01,884

Nathan Kress: heliport.

968

00:36:02,467 --> 00:36:02,789

Nathan Kress: Oh, very cool.

969

00:36:03,051 --> 00:36:06,260

Nathan Kress: So he does air operation stuff and he loves

970

00:36:06,360 --> 00:36:06,420

Nathan Kress: it.

971

00:36:06,910 --> 00:36:09,617

Nathan Kress: He'll probably stop eventually because now

972

00:36:09,637 --> 00:36:11,342

Nathan Kress: he's got grandparent duties and stuff so

973

00:36:11,390 --> 00:36:13,095

Nathan Kress: that's going to be keeping him busier and

974

00:36:13,135 --> 00:36:13,497

Nathan Kress: busier.

975

00:36:15,552 --> 00:36:18,942

Nathan Kress: But yeah, so that was my life, that I grew

976

00:36:19,042 --> 00:36:21,710

Nathan Kress: up watching that, and I don't know how we

977

00:36:21,730 --> 00:36:23,638

Nathan Kress: would have done it if my mom was working,

978

00:36:23,659 --> 00:36:25,527

Nathan Kress: because I was a full time job for her,

979

00:36:25,708 --> 00:36:28,416

Nathan Kress: driving me from the Boonies of Los Angeles

980

00:36:28,456 --> 00:36:29,640

Nathan Kress: County to Santa Monica every day.

981

00:36:30,851 --> 00:36:33,017

Marc Preston: That's off to them, because it's not easy

982

00:36:33,057 --> 00:36:34,501

Marc Preston: for a parent to navigate that.

983

00:36:35,070 --> 00:36:37,539

Marc Preston: I will say that, having coached young

984

00:36:37,660 --> 00:36:39,607

Marc Preston: children I'm not young young children, but

985

00:36:39,989 --> 00:36:42,217

Marc Preston: some kids who actually were on some Disney

986

00:36:42,237 --> 00:36:42,819

Marc Preston: Channel shows.

987

00:36:44,003 --> 00:36:45,849

Marc Preston: there are some really talented kids and

988

00:36:45,870 --> 00:36:47,353

Marc Preston: some parents that really support them go

989

00:36:47,393 --> 00:36:49,016

Marc Preston: back especially I forgot the name of the

990

00:36:49,037 --> 00:36:51,161

Marc Preston: apartment complex They always go out to LA.

991

00:36:51,181 --> 00:36:51,582

Nathan Kress: The whole woods.

992

00:36:52,430 --> 00:36:53,856

Marc Preston: Yeah, well, it's got a different name now I

993

00:36:53,896 --> 00:36:54,077

Marc Preston: think.

994

00:36:54,591 --> 00:36:55,935

Marc Preston: Yeah, I don't remember what it is now, but

995

00:36:55,955 --> 00:36:58,495

Marc Preston: that's what it was And that sounds like

996

00:36:58,796 --> 00:37:00,443

Marc Preston: really fun for a kid, but still for a

997

00:37:00,503 --> 00:37:02,371

Marc Preston: parent that's a lot of navigation within a

998

00:37:02,451 --> 00:37:04,815

Marc Preston: family, a lot of sacrifice, so that's off

999

00:37:04,835 --> 00:37:05,176

Marc Preston: to them.

Speaker:

00:37:12,314 --> 00:37:14,120

Marc Preston: Well, before we wrap up, one of the things

Speaker:

00:37:14,140 --> 00:37:15,585

Marc Preston: I like to do is ask my seven questions.

Speaker:

00:37:15,645 --> 00:37:17,331

Marc Preston: It's just kind of an additional get to know

Speaker:

00:37:17,371 --> 00:37:19,167

Marc Preston: you, just kind of fun.

Speaker:

00:37:19,428 --> 00:37:23,013

Marc Preston: You know What is your favorite comfort food,

Speaker:

00:37:23,165 --> 00:37:25,192

Marc Preston: that thing that, end of the day, like God,

Speaker:

00:37:25,232 --> 00:37:25,914

Marc Preston: just give me some of that.

Speaker:

00:37:25,985 --> 00:37:27,569

Marc Preston: I don't care if it's got a lot of bad

Speaker:

00:37:27,669 --> 00:37:29,033

Marc Preston: cholesterol or whatever, or it could be

Speaker:

00:37:29,073 --> 00:37:30,256

Marc Preston: really healthy, doesn't make a difference

Speaker:

00:37:30,585 --> 00:37:32,470

Marc Preston: But that thing that makes you feel good and

Speaker:

00:37:32,751 --> 00:37:33,272

Marc Preston: kind of chill.

Speaker:

00:37:34,054 --> 00:37:35,987

Nathan Kress: Yeah, i was.

Speaker:

00:37:36,007 --> 00:37:38,954

Nathan Kress: My top comfort food is probably barbecue.

Speaker:

00:37:41,969 --> 00:37:43,193

Nathan Kress: It's just perfect.

Speaker:

00:37:44,145 --> 00:37:46,493

Nathan Kress: It's sweet, it's savory, it's tangy.

Speaker:

00:37:46,705 --> 00:37:48,651

Nathan Kress: You got all the different textures, got the

Speaker:

00:37:49,233 --> 00:37:49,635

Nathan Kress: smoky.

Speaker:

00:37:49,785 --> 00:37:51,050

Nathan Kress: There's so many different ways you can go

Speaker:

00:37:51,110 --> 00:37:51,411

Nathan Kress: with it.

Speaker:

00:37:52,086 --> 00:37:54,749

Nathan Kress: It's just, i don't know, it's I feel like

Speaker:

00:37:54,769 --> 00:37:55,833

Nathan Kress: you're seducing me right now.

Speaker:

00:37:56,005 --> 00:37:58,413

Marc Preston: I'm so tangy and smoky.

Speaker:

00:37:59,245 --> 00:38:01,205

Nathan Kress: I just had barbecue, last night too, so

Speaker:

00:38:01,245 --> 00:38:04,595

Nathan Kress: it's still like lingering in my senses.

Speaker:

00:38:05,646 --> 00:38:08,515

Nathan Kress: That and whiskey, not in an excessive way,

Speaker:

00:38:08,756 --> 00:38:11,345

Nathan Kress: but that's also the comfort that my wife

Speaker:

00:38:11,365 --> 00:38:12,711

Nathan Kress: and I, at the end of the night after a long

Speaker:

00:38:12,752 --> 00:38:15,064

Nathan Kress: day of parenting, will sit down to a couple

Speaker:

00:38:15,084 --> 00:38:17,656

Nathan Kress: ounces of something brown that burns Brown

Speaker:

00:38:17,676 --> 00:38:19,866

Nathan Kress: that burns, that's all right Now

Speaker:

00:38:19,886 --> 00:38:20,367

Nathan Kress: barbecue-wise.

Speaker:

00:38:20,387 --> 00:38:22,473

Marc Preston: have you ever been to Dallas or Austin to

Speaker:

00:38:22,513 --> 00:38:23,135

Marc Preston: have barbecue?

Speaker:

00:38:23,725 --> 00:38:28,477

Nathan Kress: We went to actually I, Carly and Victoria,

Speaker:

00:38:28,497 --> 00:38:31,825

Nathan Kress: the cast came together for this event that

Speaker:

00:38:31,905 --> 00:38:35,526

Nathan Kress: we did for a benefit at St Jude's And while

Speaker:

00:38:35,546 --> 00:38:37,491

Nathan Kress: we were there, we did a barbecue fest in

Speaker:

00:38:37,612 --> 00:38:43,414

Nathan Kress: Memphis And that was definitely some of the

Speaker:

00:38:43,434 --> 00:38:45,398

Nathan Kress: best barbecue I've ever had in my life.

Speaker:

00:38:46,185 --> 00:38:49,455

Nathan Kress: They just slapped a pig on a table and

Speaker:

00:38:49,676 --> 00:38:51,662

Nathan Kress: pulled out what they claimed to be bacon,

Speaker:

00:38:52,204 --> 00:38:54,330

Nathan Kress: which I've never seen, but it was like

Speaker:

00:38:54,650 --> 00:38:57,417

Nathan Kress: stringing apart and odd looking.

Speaker:

00:38:57,585 --> 00:38:59,610

Nathan Kress: So I don't know what kind of bacon that was,

Speaker:

00:38:59,670 --> 00:39:01,073

Nathan Kress: but that was one of the best things.

Speaker:

00:39:02,865 --> 00:39:06,026

Nathan Kress: See, now I'm suggesting myself with it That

Speaker:

00:39:06,066 --> 00:39:09,024

Nathan Kress: was some of the best stuff I have ever had.

Speaker:

00:39:09,125 --> 00:39:11,009

Marc Preston: Well, if you're having an Austin down in

Speaker:

00:39:11,050 --> 00:39:12,593

Marc Preston: Austin, go to Franklin Barbecue.

Speaker:

00:39:12,613 --> 00:39:13,515

Marc Preston: You got to check it out.

Speaker:

00:39:14,117 --> 00:39:14,437

Nathan Kress: Good stuff.

Speaker:

00:39:14,765 --> 00:39:15,368

Nathan Kress: I've heard of that.

Speaker:

00:39:15,489 --> 00:39:17,309

Nathan Kress: actually They're on some show or something

Speaker:

00:39:17,369 --> 00:39:19,014

Nathan Kress: that I've seen for sure.

Speaker:

00:39:19,074 --> 00:39:19,635

Nathan Kress: That sounds good.

Speaker:

00:39:20,626 --> 00:39:23,133

Marc Preston: Everybody stops in there to check it out,

Speaker:

00:39:23,213 --> 00:39:23,755

Marc Preston: without a doubt.

Speaker:

00:39:24,485 --> 00:39:26,352

Marc Preston: So now my next thing is lunch.

Speaker:

00:39:26,625 --> 00:39:27,690

Marc Preston: I'm dying over here now.

Speaker:

00:39:28,968 --> 00:39:30,112

Announcer: You made the barbecue sound so good.

Speaker:

00:39:30,625 --> 00:39:31,910

Marc Preston: You literally changed what I'm doing for

Speaker:

00:39:31,970 --> 00:39:32,412

Marc Preston: lunch today.

Speaker:

00:39:33,006 --> 00:39:34,311

Nathan Kress: You mailed me a picture.

Speaker:

00:39:34,505 --> 00:39:36,232

Nathan Kress: I want to live vicariously through you.

Speaker:

00:39:36,725 --> 00:39:38,651

Marc Preston: Now the next question I got for you if

Speaker:

00:39:38,671 --> 00:39:39,654

Marc Preston: you're going to sit down and have a cup of

Speaker:

00:39:39,694 --> 00:39:41,349

Marc Preston: coffee three people you're just going to

Speaker:

00:39:41,389 --> 00:39:43,787

Marc Preston: talk story Living or not?

Speaker:

00:39:43,827 --> 00:39:45,671

Marc Preston: who would you like to sit down with and

Speaker:

00:39:45,731 --> 00:39:47,675

Marc Preston: have a cup of coffee for an hour or two?

Speaker:

00:39:49,105 --> 00:39:51,432

Nathan Kress: Oh man, i love me some historical figures,

Speaker:

00:39:52,705 --> 00:39:56,973

Nathan Kress: And especially, i think, american colonial

Speaker:

00:39:57,013 --> 00:39:58,696

Nathan Kress: history is one of the ones that I'm most

Speaker:

00:39:58,797 --> 00:39:59,478

Nathan Kress: fascinated by.

Speaker:

00:40:00,265 --> 00:40:02,048

Nathan Kress: So George Washington would probably be a

Speaker:

00:40:02,109 --> 00:40:03,932

Nathan Kress: pretty safe bet.

Speaker:

00:40:07,805 --> 00:40:18,915

Nathan Kress: Gosh, i think my mom's side of the family

Speaker:

00:40:18,936 --> 00:40:23,029

Nathan Kress: is from Mississippi, so my grandparents

Speaker:

00:40:23,290 --> 00:40:23,591

Nathan Kress: lived there.

Speaker:

00:40:23,805 --> 00:40:27,568

Nathan Kress: We would go on cop salary You can only fly

Speaker:

00:40:27,609 --> 00:40:29,394

Nathan Kress: there with a family of five so many times

Speaker:

00:40:29,705 --> 00:40:30,969

Nathan Kress: But we went as often as we could.

Speaker:

00:40:32,686 --> 00:40:35,757

Nathan Kress: I really wish, especially now, that I had

Speaker:

00:40:35,777 --> 00:40:37,804

Nathan Kress: had a little bit more time to talk with my

Speaker:

00:40:38,125 --> 00:40:41,172

Nathan Kress: granddaddy, because he passed away when I

Speaker:

00:40:41,232 --> 00:40:43,738

Nathan Kress: was granted in my early 20s.

Speaker:

00:40:43,865 --> 00:40:46,235

Nathan Kress: So I did get some experiences with him, but

Speaker:

00:40:46,416 --> 00:40:48,505

Nathan Kress: I would love to have just sat with him to

Speaker:

00:40:48,665 --> 00:40:50,611

Nathan Kress: the extent that I sat with my grandpa that

Speaker:

00:40:50,651 --> 00:40:53,589

Nathan Kress: lives here in California And he just passed

Speaker:

00:40:53,629 --> 00:40:54,833

Nathan Kress: away last year.

Speaker:

00:40:56,447 --> 00:40:58,411

Nathan Kress: But I felt good about some of the time that

Speaker:

00:40:58,431 --> 00:40:59,654

Nathan Kress: I was able to get with him, especially

Speaker:

00:40:59,694 --> 00:41:00,596

Nathan Kress: toward the end.

Speaker:

00:41:00,616 --> 00:41:01,518

Marc Preston: There's never enough time.

Speaker:

00:41:02,447 --> 00:41:04,565

Marc Preston: That's one of those things that There are

Speaker:

00:41:04,646 --> 00:41:06,751

Marc Preston: moments and no joke that I occasionally

Speaker:

00:41:06,771 --> 00:41:08,255

Marc Preston: have a life experience, something with a

Speaker:

00:41:08,295 --> 00:41:08,455

Marc Preston: kid.

Speaker:

00:41:09,285 --> 00:41:11,571

Marc Preston: For a fraction of a second, I'm thinking I

Speaker:

00:41:11,591 --> 00:41:12,774

Marc Preston: talked to my grandfather about that.

Speaker:

00:41:13,745 --> 00:41:15,771

Marc Preston: It's obviously been oh, he's passed away

Speaker:

00:41:15,811 --> 00:41:18,889

Marc Preston: almost 19 years ago, But I was very close

Speaker:

00:41:18,929 --> 00:41:20,809

Marc Preston: with him as well, So I bet there's never

Speaker:

00:41:20,849 --> 00:41:21,331

Marc Preston: enough time.

Speaker:

00:41:21,551 --> 00:41:23,088

Marc Preston: That's the rough thing When you get a

Speaker:

00:41:23,108 --> 00:41:24,116

Marc Preston: little bit older, you kind of want to go to

Speaker:

00:41:24,216 --> 00:41:25,987

Marc Preston: the folks with more gray hair and say what

Speaker:

00:41:26,027 --> 00:41:26,849

Marc Preston: do you think about this?

Speaker:

00:41:29,105 --> 00:41:30,368

Marc Preston: But we're in Mississippi, by the way, Are

Speaker:

00:41:30,388 --> 00:41:30,729

Marc Preston: they from?

Speaker:

00:41:31,852 --> 00:41:33,315

Nathan Kress: Jackson area Okay.

Speaker:

00:41:33,576 --> 00:41:34,037

Marc Preston: I'm just right.

Speaker:

00:41:34,325 --> 00:41:36,631

Marc Preston: I'm from New Orleans right over, close to,

Speaker:

00:41:37,092 --> 00:41:38,255

Marc Preston: not too far from Mississippi.

Speaker:

00:41:39,045 --> 00:41:40,691

Nathan Kress: My father-in-law's side of the family is

Speaker:

00:41:40,731 --> 00:41:42,408

Nathan Kress: from the Baton Rouge area, so we go to

Speaker:

00:41:42,428 --> 00:41:45,219

Nathan Kress: Louisiana a decent bit And I miss it

Speaker:

00:41:45,279 --> 00:41:45,581

Nathan Kress: already.

Speaker:

00:41:45,842 --> 00:41:46,625

Marc Preston: You haven't had a lot of credit for it.

Speaker:

00:41:46,625 --> 00:41:47,631

Marc Preston: Well, there's a lot of filming down here,

Speaker:

00:41:47,845 --> 00:41:50,531

Marc Preston: so if I find a reason to come down, you can

Speaker:

00:41:50,571 --> 00:41:52,154

Marc Preston: put on some pounds of some pretty good food,

Speaker:

00:41:52,174 --> 00:41:52,415

Marc Preston: oh yeah.

Speaker:

00:41:52,475 --> 00:41:53,016

Nathan Kress: No, i did.

Speaker:

00:41:54,025 --> 00:41:57,214

Nathan Kress: I've had enough budan and cracklins to last

Speaker:

00:41:57,254 --> 00:41:57,815

Nathan Kress: a lifetime.

Speaker:

00:41:58,385 --> 00:41:59,752

Nathan Kress: It's probably for the best that I don't go

Speaker:

00:41:59,813 --> 00:42:02,085

Nathan Kress: down there because I gain absurd amounts of

Speaker:

00:42:02,185 --> 00:42:04,947

Nathan Kress: weight circling back around My third person

Speaker:

00:42:05,068 --> 00:42:06,713

Nathan Kress: I got to go with the, i'd say Denis

Speaker:

00:42:06,733 --> 00:42:07,114

Nathan Kress: Villeneuve.

Speaker:

00:42:08,388 --> 00:42:09,050

Nathan Kress: Oh very good.

Speaker:

00:42:09,765 --> 00:42:11,730

Nathan Kress: I have a massive director crush on that man,

Speaker:

00:42:13,114 --> 00:42:14,667

Nathan Kress: his style We just.

Speaker:

00:42:14,748 --> 00:42:15,854

Marc Preston: I just saw a movie.

Speaker:

00:42:15,874 --> 00:42:18,407

Marc Preston: He directed God.

Speaker:

00:42:18,447 --> 00:42:19,450

Marc Preston: What did he direct?

Speaker:

00:42:21,085 --> 00:42:22,248

Marc Preston: I want to say, did he direct?

Speaker:

00:42:23,171 --> 00:42:24,294

Marc Preston: I watched it with my son the other day.

Speaker:

00:42:25,773 --> 00:42:26,705

Marc Preston: I said his name popped up.

Speaker:

00:42:26,725 --> 00:42:27,388

Marc Preston: I was like wait a minute.

Speaker:

00:42:27,845 --> 00:42:29,791

Marc Preston: He directed Dune.

Speaker:

00:42:30,694 --> 00:42:32,789

Marc Preston: Yes, but it may have been I don't know if

Speaker:

00:42:32,829 --> 00:42:34,894

Marc Preston: it was, was it shit?

Speaker:

00:42:35,295 --> 00:42:36,426

Marc Preston: I'll remember in a moment but it was

Speaker:

00:42:36,446 --> 00:42:40,225

Marc Preston: something from the early 2000s, late 1990s.

Speaker:

00:42:40,265 --> 00:42:41,811

Marc Preston: It was something I was kind of surprised

Speaker:

00:42:41,851 --> 00:42:42,333

Marc Preston: that he did.

Speaker:

00:42:42,485 --> 00:42:43,789

Marc Preston: I was like, wait a minute, that's seeing

Speaker:

00:42:43,829 --> 00:42:45,473

Marc Preston: his name pop up, but it'll come to me in a

Speaker:

00:42:45,493 --> 00:42:45,734

Marc Preston: moment.

Speaker:

00:42:46,945 --> 00:42:48,449

Marc Preston: But now, next question, real quick, is if

Speaker:

00:42:49,232 --> 00:42:50,455

Marc Preston: you're going to be living on an island

Speaker:

00:42:50,495 --> 00:42:52,351

Marc Preston: actually an island you really like you want

Speaker:

00:42:52,371 --> 00:42:52,732

Marc Preston: to be there.

Speaker:

00:42:52,825 --> 00:42:54,370

Marc Preston: You're not stranded or anything, but there

Speaker:

00:42:54,430 --> 00:42:55,053

Marc Preston: is no internet.

Speaker:

00:42:55,725 --> 00:42:57,576

Marc Preston: So you know, if you want to listen to music

Speaker:

00:42:58,239 --> 00:42:59,084

Marc Preston: or if you want to watch a movie, you're

Speaker:

00:42:59,104 --> 00:43:00,971

Marc Preston: going to have to bring a CD or bring a DVD

Speaker:

00:43:01,031 --> 00:43:01,312

Marc Preston: with you.

Speaker:

00:43:02,025 --> 00:43:04,357

Marc Preston: What would that DVD or CD be for that one

Speaker:

00:43:04,397 --> 00:43:05,905

Marc Preston: year you're going to be on this island with

Speaker:

00:43:05,965 --> 00:43:06,386

Marc Preston: your family.

Speaker:

00:43:09,105 --> 00:43:10,167

Nathan Kress: For a movie for sure.

Speaker:

00:43:10,307 --> 00:43:14,054

Nathan Kress: Lord of the Rings, the extended editions.

Speaker:

00:43:14,295 --> 00:43:18,069

Nathan Kress: I'll give myself that for one, just because

Speaker:

00:43:18,871 --> 00:43:20,696

Nathan Kress: you know that's a lot of hours of content

Speaker:

00:43:21,045 --> 00:43:23,050

Nathan Kress: So you can cycle through that and you

Speaker:

00:43:23,070 --> 00:43:24,695

Nathan Kress: wouldn't get as tired of it as you would

Speaker:

00:43:24,755 --> 00:43:27,711

Nathan Kress: from maybe an hour and a half animated

Speaker:

00:43:27,791 --> 00:43:28,152

Nathan Kress: feature.

Speaker:

00:43:29,365 --> 00:43:31,172

Nathan Kress: But those are hands down my favorite movies.

Speaker:

00:43:31,325 --> 00:43:34,071

Nathan Kress: My wife and I bonded massively over the

Speaker:

00:43:34,112 --> 00:43:35,395

Nathan Kress: Lord of the Rings when we were just

Speaker:

00:43:35,435 --> 00:43:36,517

Nathan Kress: starting out in our relationship.

Speaker:

00:43:36,785 --> 00:43:37,869

Nathan Kress: Our whole wedding was Lord of the Rings

Speaker:

00:43:37,889 --> 00:43:38,612

Nathan Kress: themed, really.

Speaker:

00:43:39,386 --> 00:43:40,390

Marc Preston: I got a sign right there.

Speaker:

00:43:41,145 --> 00:43:43,107

Nathan Kress: People had to walk into the wedding It's no

Speaker:

00:43:43,147 --> 00:43:45,846

Nathan Kress: admittance except on party business And it

Speaker:

00:43:45,886 --> 00:43:48,891

Nathan Kress: was like probably a borderline amount of

Speaker:

00:43:48,931 --> 00:43:49,492

Nathan Kress: cringe.

Speaker:

00:43:49,553 --> 00:43:54,612

Nathan Kress: Lord of the Rings for a wedding, but hands

Speaker:

00:43:54,712 --> 00:43:56,540

Nathan Kress: down, i will go to my grave saying those

Speaker:

00:43:56,560 --> 00:43:57,986

Nathan Kress: are the best movies of all time and I will

Speaker:

00:43:58,066 --> 00:43:59,612

Nathan Kress: fight anybody who disagrees with me.

Speaker:

00:44:00,286 --> 00:44:02,232

Marc Preston: Yeah, you and Stephen Colbert have a thing

Speaker:

00:44:02,333 --> 00:44:02,694

Marc Preston: for that.

Speaker:

00:44:03,727 --> 00:44:05,652

Marc Preston: Honestly, I think I've seen just one of the

Speaker:

00:44:05,692 --> 00:44:08,648

Marc Preston: movies and I know shame on me And I was

Speaker:

00:44:08,668 --> 00:44:09,926

Marc Preston: talking to Matt Walsh, the other day I said

Speaker:

00:44:09,986 --> 00:44:10,810

Marc Preston: I haven't seen VP.

Speaker:

00:44:11,385 --> 00:44:12,609

Marc Preston: So many great things I haven't seen yet

Speaker:

00:44:12,629 --> 00:44:13,953

Marc Preston: because there's so much out there, There's

Speaker:

00:44:13,973 --> 00:44:14,434

Marc Preston: a bazillion.

Speaker:

00:44:14,905 --> 00:44:15,890

Nathan Kress: Yeah, i don't blame you on that part.

Speaker:

00:44:16,065 --> 00:44:18,829

Nathan Kress: There is a dearth or just like massive,

Speaker:

00:44:19,109 --> 00:44:23,256

Nathan Kress: massive crush of content that you can drown

Speaker:

00:44:23,336 --> 00:44:24,097

Nathan Kress: under now.

Speaker:

00:44:24,197 --> 00:44:24,658

Nathan Kress: So it is.

Speaker:

00:44:24,878 --> 00:44:26,260

Nathan Kress: It is hard, but I definitely recommend that

Speaker:

00:44:26,340 --> 00:44:26,400

Nathan Kress: one.

Speaker:

00:44:26,665 --> 00:44:28,771

Nathan Kress: That is just an absolute classic that will

Speaker:

00:44:28,791 --> 00:44:29,693

Nathan Kress: stand the test of time.

Speaker:

00:44:29,773 --> 00:44:32,308

Nathan Kress: That, visually, even that was from the 90s

Speaker:

00:44:32,328 --> 00:44:33,231

Nathan Kress: and early 2000s.

Speaker:

00:44:33,331 --> 00:44:35,236

Nathan Kress: Those visuals still hold up today.

Speaker:

00:44:35,425 --> 00:44:37,951

Nathan Kress: It was just incredible what they did, even

Speaker:

00:44:37,971 --> 00:44:40,485

Nathan Kress: just with the technology back then, and

Speaker:

00:44:40,505 --> 00:44:42,813

Nathan Kress: just one of the best stories truly of all

Speaker:

00:44:42,853 --> 00:44:44,388

Nathan Kress: time As far as I'm concerned.

Speaker:

00:44:44,468 --> 00:44:46,193

Nathan Kress: Just like the depiction of the Battle of

Speaker:

00:44:46,233 --> 00:44:47,786

Nathan Kress: Good and Evil is so quintessential in that

Speaker:

00:44:47,806 --> 00:44:49,252

Nathan Kress: movie or set of movies.

Speaker:

00:44:50,868 --> 00:44:52,873

Marc Preston: But as far as music, the music side of

Speaker:

00:44:52,913 --> 00:44:53,635

Marc Preston: things, where would you?

Speaker:

00:44:53,655 --> 00:44:53,735

Nathan Kress: be.

Speaker:

00:44:54,825 --> 00:44:55,247

Nathan Kress: That's tough.

Speaker:

00:44:56,885 --> 00:45:01,392

Nathan Kress: I've really gotten into just non, non

Speaker:

00:45:01,552 --> 00:45:04,877

Nathan Kress: lyrical, almost atmospheric and

Speaker:

00:45:04,937 --> 00:45:08,669

Nathan Kress: environmental type, just like background

Speaker:

00:45:08,850 --> 00:45:09,271

Nathan Kress: music.

Speaker:

00:45:10,845 --> 00:45:13,654

Nathan Kress: I know that one that, especially just when

Speaker:

00:45:13,714 --> 00:45:16,723

Nathan Kress: I'm stressed or if we're having a weird

Speaker:

00:45:16,884 --> 00:45:19,972

Nathan Kress: family dinner, i'll just say like let's put

Speaker:

00:45:20,052 --> 00:45:20,653

Nathan Kress: on a lo-fi.

Speaker:

00:45:22,625 --> 00:45:25,172

Nathan Kress: And we put on a lo-fi and everyone pretty

Speaker:

00:45:25,192 --> 00:45:26,236

Nathan Kress: much just calms down.

Speaker:

00:45:26,425 --> 00:45:28,393

Nathan Kress: It's kind of lo-fi like low fidelity.

Speaker:

00:45:28,545 --> 00:45:33,356

Nathan Kress: It's basically like a combination of jazz,

Speaker:

00:45:34,097 --> 00:45:37,445

Nathan Kress: hip hop with this like desyncopated rhythm,

Speaker:

00:45:37,605 --> 00:45:40,814

Nathan Kress: with like record crackle overlaid on top of

Speaker:

00:45:40,914 --> 00:45:44,652

Nathan Kress: it, and it's just so relaxing and it's a

Speaker:

00:45:44,732 --> 00:45:47,485

Nathan Kress: little bit kind of off beat sometimes And

Speaker:

00:45:47,505 --> 00:45:50,293

Nathan Kress: it just it just clicks in your brain very

Speaker:

00:45:50,454 --> 00:45:52,369

Nathan Kress: differently And I feel like if we were

Speaker:

00:45:52,409 --> 00:45:54,802

Nathan Kress: stuck on an island I might need to unwind

Speaker:

00:45:54,842 --> 00:45:56,770

Nathan Kress: and relax a little bit and lo-fi does it

Speaker:

00:45:56,951 --> 00:45:57,352

Nathan Kress: the best.

Speaker:

00:45:57,725 --> 00:45:59,010

Marc Preston: Now over to the next question here

Speaker:

00:46:00,285 --> 00:46:02,353

Marc Preston: Definition of a perfect day for you.

Speaker:

00:46:02,585 --> 00:46:03,889

Marc Preston: You're going to get up in the morning all

Speaker:

00:46:03,909 --> 00:46:05,654

Marc Preston: the way till you go to fall asleep.

Speaker:

00:46:06,385 --> 00:46:08,049

Marc Preston: What are the component parts of a perfect

Speaker:

00:46:08,149 --> 00:46:09,553

Marc Preston: day that's on point for you?

Speaker:

00:46:11,305 --> 00:46:15,549

Nathan Kress: I slept in, for sure, and somehow my

Speaker:

00:46:15,589 --> 00:46:18,515

Nathan Kress: children slept in so that I woke up like an

Speaker:

00:46:18,696 --> 00:46:21,130

Nathan Kress: hour before they did, but also so did my

Speaker:

00:46:21,190 --> 00:46:24,193

Nathan Kress: wife, and so we could just like lay there

Speaker:

00:46:24,273 --> 00:46:27,524

Nathan Kress: and talk for a good half hour and just hang

Speaker:

00:46:27,604 --> 00:46:30,270

Nathan Kress: out and have some completely quiet alone

Speaker:

00:46:30,310 --> 00:46:31,894

Nathan Kress: time together, which just sounds like

Speaker:

00:46:32,054 --> 00:46:34,406

Nathan Kress: magical and unobtainable now.

Speaker:

00:46:36,605 --> 00:46:40,373

Nathan Kress: And then a quality French press coffee in

Speaker:

00:46:40,393 --> 00:46:45,429

Nathan Kress: the morning, some time to just like go off

Speaker:

00:46:45,529 --> 00:46:49,537

Nathan Kress: and be quiet, be by myself, do some, do

Speaker:

00:46:49,577 --> 00:46:52,429

Nathan Kress: some devotions, have some quiet time.

Speaker:

00:46:52,449 --> 00:46:57,031

Nathan Kress: Because I'm it's weird, i adore my wife and

Speaker:

00:46:57,071 --> 00:46:59,857

Nathan Kress: my children, but I'm pretty introverted.

Speaker:

00:47:00,165 --> 00:47:01,910

Nathan Kress: I'm a very introverted extrovert,

Speaker:

00:47:02,071 --> 00:47:03,114

Nathan Kress: extroverted introvert.

Speaker:

00:47:03,745 --> 00:47:05,810

Nathan Kress: And I've learned about myself that I

Speaker:

00:47:05,870 --> 00:47:07,634

Nathan Kress: actually need a little bit more alone time

Speaker:

00:47:07,654 --> 00:47:08,576

Nathan Kress: to recharge time.

Speaker:

00:47:09,185 --> 00:47:12,692

Nathan Kress: Yeah, i, i just run out of juice, you know,

Speaker:

00:47:12,872 --> 00:47:16,659

Nathan Kress: even even in a close knit family setting,

Speaker:

00:47:17,086 --> 00:47:19,592

Nathan Kress: i've just found like I recharge so much

Speaker:

00:47:19,633 --> 00:47:20,916

Nathan Kress: when I just get that little bit of alone

Speaker:

00:47:20,956 --> 00:47:21,137

Nathan Kress: time.

Speaker:

00:47:21,265 --> 00:47:25,706

Nathan Kress: So probably a little bit of that And

Speaker:

00:47:25,726 --> 00:47:29,413

Nathan Kress: honestly, like it's as hard as it is and

Speaker:

00:47:29,474 --> 00:47:32,626

Nathan Kress: how crazy and chaotic it can be, the rest

Speaker:

00:47:32,666 --> 00:47:35,527

Nathan Kress: of that day is just family time, like I'm

Speaker:

00:47:35,567 --> 00:47:38,305

Nathan Kress: just I'm so addicted to it right now And I

Speaker:

00:47:38,345 --> 00:47:43,238

Nathan Kress: just I see how it's paying off with our

Speaker:

00:47:43,399 --> 00:47:45,123

Nathan Kress: bond and relationship.

Speaker:

00:47:45,163 --> 00:47:47,128

Nathan Kress: The way that these kids are growing up and

Speaker:

00:47:47,168 --> 00:47:51,196

Nathan Kress: just getting to imprint the smiles that are

Speaker:

00:47:51,236 --> 00:47:53,589

Nathan Kress: on their faces and just try to lock that

Speaker:

00:47:53,629 --> 00:47:55,770

Nathan Kress: into my brain, i'm just like soaking it up

Speaker:

00:47:55,811 --> 00:47:56,373

Nathan Kress: like a sponge.

Speaker:

00:47:56,393 --> 00:47:59,350

Nathan Kress: Right now It's hard to really imagine doing

Speaker:

00:47:59,871 --> 00:48:00,773

Nathan Kress: doing something else.

Speaker:

00:48:03,305 --> 00:48:04,869

Nathan Kress: But, but shortly, part of that family time

Speaker:

00:48:05,751 --> 00:48:07,636

Nathan Kress: is taking the girls for a Mustang ride.

Speaker:

00:48:08,505 --> 00:48:11,653

Nathan Kress: We have a 1965 Mustang convertible that

Speaker:

00:48:11,693 --> 00:48:13,617

Nathan Kress: really both of my girls.

Speaker:

00:48:13,906 --> 00:48:16,013

Nathan Kress: So it was my wife's grandfather's car.

Speaker:

00:48:16,585 --> 00:48:18,866

Nathan Kress: It was her dream car as a kid And to

Speaker:

00:48:18,906 --> 00:48:21,234

Nathan Kress: surprise her, when I was going to propose,

Speaker:

00:48:21,435 --> 00:48:24,465

Nathan Kress: my dad and I drove out to Colorado to pick

Speaker:

00:48:24,565 --> 00:48:25,669

Nathan Kress: it up and drive it back.

Speaker:

00:48:25,749 --> 00:48:27,936

Nathan Kress: So I bought it from him.

Speaker:

00:48:28,727 --> 00:48:30,592

Nathan Kress: It was like half bought it, half wedding

Speaker:

00:48:30,632 --> 00:48:33,460

Nathan Kress: present, and then worked on fixing it up

Speaker:

00:48:33,902 --> 00:48:36,710

Nathan Kress: and then kind of gave it to her as a as an

Speaker:

00:48:36,871 --> 00:48:37,954

Nathan Kress: engagement gift.

Speaker:

00:48:39,287 --> 00:48:41,412

Marc Preston: So I didn't realize you could make an old

Speaker:

00:48:41,492 --> 00:48:43,857

Marc Preston: car seems so incredibly romantic as you

Speaker:

00:48:43,877 --> 00:48:44,613

Marc Preston: just did.

Speaker:

00:48:45,302 --> 00:48:47,280

Nathan Kress: I bonded with my girls over it.

Speaker:

00:48:47,420 --> 00:48:50,368

Nathan Kress: They just love going for rides, having that

Speaker:

00:48:50,448 --> 00:48:53,030

Nathan Kress: alone date time, you know, just taking them

Speaker:

00:48:53,090 --> 00:48:54,661

Nathan Kress: out for breakfast or something, or even

Speaker:

00:48:54,681 --> 00:48:56,789

Nathan Kress: just picking my oldest one up from school.

Speaker:

00:48:57,301 --> 00:48:59,386

Nathan Kress: There's just something about it that just

Speaker:

00:48:59,807 --> 00:49:03,371

Nathan Kress: changes the monotony of the day.

Speaker:

00:49:03,702 --> 00:49:04,447

Nathan Kress: And I don't know.

Speaker:

00:49:04,487 --> 00:49:06,862

Nathan Kress: we just go, we just drive around and listen

Speaker:

00:49:06,882 --> 00:49:07,385

Nathan Kress: to Beach Boys.

Speaker:

00:49:07,702 --> 00:49:09,200

Nathan Kress: That's like their number one thing.

Speaker:

00:49:09,341 --> 00:49:10,104

Nathan Kress: I don't have to say it.

Speaker:

00:49:10,423 --> 00:49:11,338

Nathan Kress: We pull out of the driveway and they're

Speaker:

00:49:11,379 --> 00:49:12,384

Nathan Kress: like where's the Beach Boys?

Speaker:

00:49:13,080 --> 00:49:17,109

Nathan Kress: So I put together a playlist of Timeline

Speaker:

00:49:17,190 --> 00:49:20,744

Nathan Kress: Correct music for that car And we just

Speaker:

00:49:20,925 --> 00:49:24,282

Nathan Kress: shuffle through it and just pretend like we

Speaker:

00:49:24,322 --> 00:49:27,036

Nathan Kress: live in a different era for a little while.

Speaker:

00:49:27,216 --> 00:49:27,940

Marc Preston: Yeah, it's kind of funny.

Speaker:

00:49:28,343 --> 00:49:30,078

Marc Preston: My 17-year-old daughter is like getting the

Speaker:

00:49:30,098 --> 00:49:32,228

Marc Preston: truck and listen to country music And I

Speaker:

00:49:32,248 --> 00:49:32,999

Marc Preston: mean that's her thing.

Speaker:

00:49:33,263 --> 00:49:34,457

Marc Preston: She does it like do we have to go home

Speaker:

00:49:34,478 --> 00:49:34,660

Marc Preston: right now?

Speaker:

00:49:34,841 --> 00:49:36,025

Marc Preston: She just wants to drive around.

Speaker:

00:49:37,841 --> 00:49:38,623

Marc Preston: But we'll tell you what.

Speaker:

00:49:38,663 --> 00:49:41,061

Marc Preston: the last couple of questions Now.

Speaker:

00:49:41,081 --> 00:49:42,920

Marc Preston: if you weren't doing this right now and

Speaker:

00:49:42,940 --> 00:49:45,622

Marc Preston: this was not your vocation, what would be

Speaker:

00:49:45,703 --> 00:49:47,469

Marc Preston: the thing that you did for a living that

Speaker:

00:49:47,540 --> 00:49:49,287

Marc Preston: would bring you satisfaction?

Speaker:

00:49:49,940 --> 00:49:52,860

Nathan Kress: For a while I thought that it was going to

Speaker:

00:49:52,900 --> 00:49:56,668

Nathan Kress: be some kind of police, military, public

Speaker:

00:49:56,748 --> 00:49:58,411

Nathan Kress: service thing.

Speaker:

00:49:59,680 --> 00:50:01,908

Nathan Kress: I got kind of sidelined from that.

Speaker:

00:50:02,560 --> 00:50:05,428

Nathan Kress: I had a lot of back pain in my late teens,

Speaker:

00:50:05,528 --> 00:50:08,084

Nathan Kress: early 20s, Found out that I had a birth

Speaker:

00:50:08,145 --> 00:50:09,810

Nathan Kress: defect in my spinal cord.

Speaker:

00:50:09,960 --> 00:50:12,865

Nathan Kress: That I corrected, But then the surgery from

Speaker:

00:50:12,905 --> 00:50:16,307

Nathan Kress: it kind of messed me up more than the pain

Speaker:

00:50:16,327 --> 00:50:17,209

Nathan Kress: that I was in before.

Speaker:

00:50:18,420 --> 00:50:21,308

Nathan Kress: So I knew that I'd pretty much wash out of

Speaker:

00:50:21,789 --> 00:50:24,404

Nathan Kress: anything that was in that vein because I

Speaker:

00:50:24,424 --> 00:50:25,969

Nathan Kress: just wouldn't be able to physically hack it.

Speaker:

00:50:26,520 --> 00:50:31,091

Nathan Kress: But over time I think what I've found is in

Speaker:

00:50:31,111 --> 00:50:33,744

Nathan Kress: life and in my experiences.

Speaker:

00:50:35,107 --> 00:50:39,848

Nathan Kress: I'm a salesman, I think in some quadrant of

Speaker:

00:50:39,908 --> 00:50:43,889

Nathan Kress: my mind, So doing something in real estate

Speaker:

00:50:44,130 --> 00:50:47,006

Nathan Kress: or sales where it's forward, facing and

Speaker:

00:50:47,427 --> 00:50:49,702

Nathan Kress: interfacing with small groups of people and

Speaker:

00:50:49,742 --> 00:50:51,760

Nathan Kress: establishing rapport and relationship and

Speaker:

00:50:52,181 --> 00:50:54,447

Nathan Kress: just being human with them, but also

Speaker:

00:50:54,547 --> 00:50:58,705

Nathan Kress: providing a service and encouraging them by

Speaker:

00:50:58,866 --> 00:51:01,632

Nathan Kress: being excited about whatever it is that I'm

Speaker:

00:51:01,692 --> 00:51:02,253

Nathan Kress: excited about.

Speaker:

00:51:02,300 --> 00:51:05,329

Nathan Kress: Because once I go all in on something I'm

Speaker:

00:51:05,509 --> 00:51:10,191

Nathan Kress: so in And I'm so excited about it that when

Speaker:

00:51:10,280 --> 00:51:13,249

Nathan Kress: I go to a car dealership and I'm talking

Speaker:

00:51:13,269 --> 00:51:15,925

Nathan Kress: about a car to my wife and talking about

Speaker:

00:51:15,946 --> 00:51:18,723

Nathan Kress: all the things about the car, the sales guy

Speaker:

00:51:18,763 --> 00:51:21,270

Nathan Kress: goes let me give you my car.

Speaker:

00:51:22,180 --> 00:51:24,167

Nathan Kress: If you ever want to start selling cars, let

Speaker:

00:51:24,188 --> 00:51:24,469

Nathan Kress: me know.

Speaker:

00:51:24,701 --> 00:51:26,341

Nathan Kress: Or when we were looking for a house, or I

Speaker:

00:51:26,361 --> 00:51:29,283

Nathan Kress: would show a friend around a house, the

Speaker:

00:51:29,463 --> 00:51:30,768

Nathan Kress: agent representing the house would be like

Speaker:

00:51:30,808 --> 00:51:33,320

Nathan Kress: sorry, you're their agent, right, And we're

Speaker:

00:51:33,340 --> 00:51:38,172

Nathan Kress: like, no, I just know how to get a person

Speaker:

00:51:38,212 --> 00:51:39,584

Nathan Kress: excited about it, I guess.

Speaker:

00:51:39,900 --> 00:51:41,206

Marc Preston: But no, hey, that's like what you're

Speaker:

00:51:41,226 --> 00:51:41,547

Marc Preston: talking about.

Speaker:

00:51:41,600 --> 00:51:43,807

Marc Preston: Sounds like a really good producer, excited

Speaker:

00:51:43,827 --> 00:51:45,202

Marc Preston: about your project You're pitching.

Speaker:

00:51:46,080 --> 00:51:47,002

Marc Preston: Now, real quick.

Speaker:

00:51:47,022 --> 00:51:50,431

Marc Preston: The last question if you had a DeLorean you

Speaker:

00:51:50,451 --> 00:51:51,072

Marc Preston: could pop back.

Speaker:

00:51:51,641 --> 00:51:53,247

Marc Preston: Let's rewind back to when you were 16.

Speaker:

00:51:54,281 --> 00:51:56,422

Marc Preston: And you've got a couple of minutes to

Speaker:

00:51:56,482 --> 00:51:58,348

Marc Preston: convey a piece of advice, either in the

Speaker:

00:51:58,429 --> 00:52:01,468

Marc Preston: moment, to make that time in your life

Speaker:

00:52:01,609 --> 00:52:04,849

Marc Preston: better or put you on a track to better

Speaker:

00:52:04,889 --> 00:52:05,130

Marc Preston: track.

Speaker:

00:52:05,220 --> 00:52:06,584

Marc Preston: Whatever, what would that piece of advice

Speaker:

00:52:06,644 --> 00:52:07,708

Marc Preston: be to 16-year-old you?

Speaker:

00:52:08,640 --> 00:52:13,021

Nathan Kress: This sounds awful, but I don't know if I

Speaker:

00:52:13,061 --> 00:52:14,365

Nathan Kress: would tell myself anything.

Speaker:

00:52:16,300 --> 00:52:21,570

Nathan Kress: I'm really genuinely happy with how my life

Speaker:

00:52:21,630 --> 00:52:26,867

Nathan Kress: turned out And I think that's not to say we

Speaker:

00:52:26,947 --> 00:52:29,453

Nathan Kress: haven't faced a lot of adversity,

Speaker:

00:52:29,500 --> 00:52:31,481

Nathan Kress: especially since becoming married, and a

Speaker:

00:52:31,521 --> 00:52:34,108

Nathan Kress: lot of just physical challenges and just

Speaker:

00:52:34,249 --> 00:52:34,530

Nathan Kress: stuff.

Speaker:

00:52:35,160 --> 00:52:38,170

Nathan Kress: We're just incredibly unlucky people to the

Speaker:

00:52:38,210 --> 00:52:40,265

Nathan Kress: point that now we are able to laugh about

Speaker:

00:52:40,306 --> 00:52:41,248

Nathan Kress: it because it's not like.

Speaker:

00:52:42,160 --> 00:52:43,545

Nathan Kress: It's not like, oh, i wonder if something

Speaker:

00:52:43,626 --> 00:52:44,469

Nathan Kress: bad is going to happen.

Speaker:

00:52:44,580 --> 00:52:45,765

Nathan Kress: It's like, oh, i wonder what it's going to

Speaker:

00:52:45,785 --> 00:52:46,367

Nathan Kress: be this time.

Speaker:

00:52:46,780 --> 00:52:49,060

Nathan Kress: That's just sort of how we operate and

Speaker:

00:52:49,080 --> 00:52:51,048

Nathan Kress: we've just become so jaded by it.

Speaker:

00:52:51,120 --> 00:52:53,005

Nathan Kress: So it's not that it's just been this super

Speaker:

00:52:53,105 --> 00:52:54,649

Nathan Kress: glitzy life.

Speaker:

00:52:55,780 --> 00:52:57,980

Nathan Kress: I've learned a lot from those things And I

Speaker:

00:52:58,041 --> 00:53:02,021

Nathan Kress: think as a team my wife and my family we've

Speaker:

00:53:02,061 --> 00:53:04,983

Nathan Kress: come out better because of it And all of

Speaker:

00:53:05,043 --> 00:53:05,584

Nathan Kress: the things.

Speaker:

00:53:06,086 --> 00:53:08,981

Nathan Kress: I see how my path and the decisions that I

Speaker:

00:53:09,342 --> 00:53:11,229

Nathan Kress: made and that my parents helped me to make,

Speaker:

00:53:11,320 --> 00:53:13,606

Nathan Kress: especially in my young life, all of it's

Speaker:

00:53:13,626 --> 00:53:17,363

Nathan Kress: contributed to this And I'm so thrilled

Speaker:

00:53:17,403 --> 00:53:17,684

Nathan Kress: with it.

Speaker:

00:53:20,481 --> 00:53:24,960

Nathan Kress: I guess, if anything, i would just say I

Speaker:

00:53:25,000 --> 00:53:28,089

Nathan Kress: would have saved myself probably from a

Speaker:

00:53:28,230 --> 00:53:30,164

Nathan Kress: phase of being really uncomfortable with my

Speaker:

00:53:30,244 --> 00:53:32,651

Nathan Kress: body right after I moved out of my house.

Speaker:

00:53:32,740 --> 00:53:35,348

Nathan Kress: I just didn't know anything about taking

Speaker:

00:53:35,388 --> 00:53:38,725

Nathan Kress: care of myself or cooking healthy meals or

Speaker:

00:53:39,267 --> 00:53:41,291

Nathan Kress: having a regular exercise schedule.

Speaker:

00:53:43,524 --> 00:53:46,391

Nathan Kress: So I probably would just say start cooking

Speaker:

00:53:46,471 --> 00:53:49,006

Nathan Kress: sooner, because I could have saved myself a

Speaker:

00:53:49,066 --> 00:53:49,668

Nathan Kress: lot of agony.

Speaker:

00:53:50,040 --> 00:53:51,185

Marc Preston: I wish I'd done the same thing.

Speaker:

00:53:51,285 --> 00:53:53,225

Marc Preston: actually, i'm big in the cooking now and my

Speaker:

00:53:53,285 --> 00:53:54,409

Marc Preston: kids have grown up cooking.

Speaker:

00:53:54,690 --> 00:53:54,870

Nathan Kress: Yeah.

Speaker:

00:53:55,020 --> 00:53:55,944

Marc Preston: And that's another thing I've heard.

Speaker:

00:53:55,984 --> 00:53:58,464

Marc Preston: by the way, If you cook with your kids,

Speaker:

00:53:58,484 --> 00:54:00,542

Marc Preston: especially shop with your kids, they tend

Speaker:

00:54:00,562 --> 00:54:01,225

Marc Preston: to be healthier.

Speaker:

00:54:01,486 --> 00:54:03,787

Nathan Kress: Yes, yeah, that's something that I talk

Speaker:

00:54:03,807 --> 00:54:06,702

Nathan Kress: with my kids about macronutrients When

Speaker:

00:54:06,722 --> 00:54:07,667

Nathan Kress: we're having breakfast it's like, ok,

Speaker:

00:54:07,820 --> 00:54:08,865

Nathan Kress: there's your protein, there's your fat,

Speaker:

00:54:09,220 --> 00:54:12,001

Nathan Kress: let's find a good, healthy carb for you And

Speaker:

00:54:12,382 --> 00:54:14,088

Nathan Kress: just teach them that food is a science,

Speaker:

00:54:14,901 --> 00:54:16,426

Nathan Kress: it's a math equation and you've got to have

Speaker:

00:54:16,546 --> 00:54:19,786

Nathan Kress: balance in what you're doing, what you're

Speaker:

00:54:19,826 --> 00:54:20,007

Nathan Kress: eating.

Speaker:

00:54:20,087 --> 00:54:20,910

Nathan Kress: And I did not have that.

Speaker:

00:54:20,980 --> 00:54:21,944

Nathan Kress: I had to learn that the hard way.

Speaker:

00:54:22,380 --> 00:54:24,422

Nathan Kress: I literally lost out on a roll I probably

Speaker:

00:54:24,442 --> 00:54:25,721

Nathan Kress: shouldn't say which one, but it would have

Speaker:

00:54:25,741 --> 00:54:27,860

Nathan Kress: been a really fun one where it was down to

Speaker:

00:54:27,880 --> 00:54:30,503

Nathan Kress: me and two other guys And they said so,

Speaker:

00:54:31,366 --> 00:54:35,384

Nathan Kress: acting wise, he was the best, but he's just

Speaker:

00:54:35,484 --> 00:54:36,587

Nathan Kress: not physically.

Speaker:

00:54:37,209 --> 00:54:39,743

Nathan Kress: What we're looking for And what that was

Speaker:

00:54:39,803 --> 00:54:43,022

Nathan Kress: was that I was 30 pounds heavier than I

Speaker:

00:54:43,162 --> 00:54:47,381

Nathan Kress: should have been for my height and BMI And

Speaker:

00:54:47,482 --> 00:54:49,248

Nathan Kress: the other guys did not look that way.

Speaker:

00:54:49,880 --> 00:54:52,969

Nathan Kress: So I definitely lost out because I wasn't

Speaker:

00:54:53,009 --> 00:54:55,645

Nathan Kress: taking care of myself And that was a big.

Speaker:

00:54:56,307 --> 00:54:57,961

Nathan Kress: That snapped something for me And that was

Speaker:

00:54:58,022 --> 00:55:00,405

Nathan Kress: what kind of kicked me off on starting to

Speaker:

00:55:00,465 --> 00:55:01,388

Nathan Kress: take better care of myself.

Speaker:

00:55:01,460 --> 00:55:02,800

Nathan Kress: So if I would have done that sooner, i

Speaker:

00:55:02,840 --> 00:55:05,227

Nathan Kress: probably would have dealt with a little bit

Speaker:

00:55:05,287 --> 00:55:05,969

Nathan Kress: less anguish.

Speaker:

00:55:06,169 --> 00:55:07,032

Marc Preston: Well, that's fantastic.

Speaker:

00:55:07,060 --> 00:55:08,865

Marc Preston: Well, hey, before I go work, you do have a

Speaker:

00:55:08,905 --> 00:55:10,389

Marc Preston: podcast, correct?

Speaker:

00:55:10,670 --> 00:55:10,990

Nathan Kress: I do.

Speaker:

00:55:11,091 --> 00:55:14,485

Nathan Kress: Yeah, it's funny, It's called Radioactive

Speaker:

00:55:14,525 --> 00:55:14,826

Nathan Kress: Dads.

Speaker:

00:55:14,960 --> 00:55:16,527

Nathan Kress: I do it with my buddy, brett Davern, who's

Speaker:

00:55:16,580 --> 00:55:19,248

Nathan Kress: another fellow young actor friend who's got

Speaker:

00:55:19,288 --> 00:55:19,790

Nathan Kress: young kids.

Speaker:

00:55:20,240 --> 00:55:21,499

Nathan Kress: We've been doing it since 2019.

Speaker:

00:55:21,580 --> 00:55:23,426

Nathan Kress: We've actually been kind of on an

Speaker:

00:55:23,606 --> 00:55:26,504

Nathan Kress: accidental hiatus where he does so many

Speaker:

00:55:26,585 --> 00:55:29,051

Nathan Kress: other podcasts for local Seattle sports

Speaker:

00:55:29,091 --> 00:55:29,332

Nathan Kress: teams.

Speaker:

00:55:29,380 --> 00:55:31,805

Nathan Kress: He's a big sports guy And he's been so busy

Speaker:

00:55:31,845 --> 00:55:35,487

Nathan Kress: with that And I've been so busy at home and

Speaker:

00:55:36,229 --> 00:55:38,542

Nathan Kress: with some other work stuff that's been

Speaker:

00:55:38,582 --> 00:55:40,261

Nathan Kress: going on in the background that we just

Speaker:

00:55:40,322 --> 00:55:42,909

Nathan Kress: haven't been able to do it in the last

Speaker:

00:55:42,930 --> 00:55:43,250

Nathan Kress: little bit.

Speaker:

00:55:43,380 --> 00:55:45,226

Nathan Kress: I expect that we'll be able to come back at

Speaker:

00:55:45,266 --> 00:55:47,445

Nathan Kress: some point, but for now there's three years

Speaker:

00:55:47,485 --> 00:55:50,187

Nathan Kress: of episodes that people can catch up on.

Speaker:

00:55:50,368 --> 00:55:52,285

Nathan Kress: In the meantime We were there weekly on

Speaker:

00:55:52,345 --> 00:55:55,167

Nathan Kress: Adobe Radio And we just kind of we cover a

Speaker:

00:55:55,207 --> 00:55:56,502

Nathan Kress: lot of parenting stuff, but it's mostly

Speaker:

00:55:56,542 --> 00:55:58,281

Nathan Kress: just sort of catharsis to each other and

Speaker:

00:55:58,382 --> 00:55:59,728

Nathan Kress: therapy about what we're dealing with.

Speaker:

00:56:00,320 --> 00:56:03,168

Marc Preston: It's kind of cool to commiserate, if you

Speaker:

00:56:03,188 --> 00:56:04,662

Marc Preston: will, with other parents About the good,

Speaker:

00:56:05,023 --> 00:56:06,161

Marc Preston: about the things that are rough, but the

Speaker:

00:56:06,201 --> 00:56:07,024

Marc Preston: things are really good.

Speaker:

00:56:07,700 --> 00:56:09,987

Marc Preston: They're doing a dumpster out there, But no,

Speaker:

00:56:10,310 --> 00:56:14,349

Marc Preston: i so appreciate your time By the way, I

Speaker:

00:56:14,369 --> 00:56:14,910

Marc Preston: apologize.

Speaker:

00:56:15,060 --> 00:56:16,547

Nathan Kress: I got the lawnmower this whole time.

Speaker:

00:56:16,641 --> 00:56:18,039

Nathan Kress: So what are you saying?

Speaker:

00:56:18,160 --> 00:56:19,606

Marc Preston: Oh, by the way, the movie I was thinking of,

Speaker:

00:56:19,646 --> 00:56:21,966

Marc Preston: the Dillinove, i came to see Denis

Speaker:

00:56:22,147 --> 00:56:23,463

Marc Preston: Villeneuve Villeneuve, is that what he say,

Speaker:

00:56:23,504 --> 00:56:23,785

Marc Preston: his name.

Speaker:

00:56:24,500 --> 00:56:25,204

Marc Preston: It's Sicario.
