Brec Bassinger | Lone Star Girl

Brec Bassinger | Lone Star Girl

On this episode of The Story & Craft Podcast, we sit down with actor, Brec Bassinger.  She plays Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl) on the CW Network show, Stargirl.  We chatted about career, what it was like growing up in Texas as a young actor, her early years on Nickelodeon and what it’s like to be one of the newest members of the DC Universe.  Brec is staying busy and will soon be seen co-starring in the upcoming films The Man in The White Van, along with Sean Astin, as well as Saturday at The Starlight with Abigail Breslin and Denise Richards.  As a fellow native Texan, we naturally had to discuss some of our favorite places to eat when we’re back home in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.  Brec is a rising star with a great energy and a cool story to share.  Stop by as we talk story with a real Stargirl…Brec Bassinger!

43

00:01:28,240 --> 00:01:29,343

Marc Preston: All right, let's get after it.

44

00:01:29,403 --> 00:01:32,911

Marc Preston: Today is Breck Bassenger Day right now on

45

00:01:33,011 --> 00:01:34,053

Marc Preston: Story and Craft.

46

00:01:36,218 --> 00:01:36,960

Marc Preston: So how are you doing today?

47

00:01:37,641 --> 00:01:40,686

Brec Bassinger: Fine, it's so crazy I'm not even filming

48

00:01:40,706 --> 00:01:42,609

Brec Bassinger: right now and I still feel so busy just

49

00:01:42,649 --> 00:01:43,791

Brec Bassinger: with other stuff.

50

00:01:44,112 --> 00:01:45,474

Brec Bassinger: But all good.

51

00:01:46,000 --> 00:01:47,344

Marc Preston: It's nice to talk to a fellow Texan.

52

00:01:47,404 --> 00:01:48,788

Marc Preston: I'm originally from Richardson and now

53

00:01:48,828 --> 00:01:49,931

Marc Preston: you're from Saginaw, right?

54

00:01:50,141 --> 00:01:52,778

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, yeah, definitely familiar with

55

00:01:52,799 --> 00:01:53,000

Brec Bassinger: Richardson.

56

00:01:53,602 --> 00:01:55,566

Marc Preston: Then did you go to school in Saginaw, or

57

00:01:55,606 --> 00:01:55,967

Marc Preston: did you?

58

00:01:56,348 --> 00:01:57,291

Marc Preston: When did you head to LA?

59

00:01:58,521 --> 00:02:01,869

Brec Bassinger: I went to school in Saginaw up until my

60

00:02:01,989 --> 00:02:04,835

Brec Bassinger: freshman year and even eighth grade I kind

61

00:02:04,855 --> 00:02:06,960

Brec Bassinger: of was in and out of public school.

62

00:02:07,663 --> 00:02:10,514

Brec Bassinger: And then freshman year I booked Bell and

63

00:02:10,534 --> 00:02:11,659

Brec Bassinger: the Bulldogs, which was the Nickelodeon

64

00:02:11,679 --> 00:02:14,347

Brec Bassinger: show I was on, and then after that it was

65

00:02:14,387 --> 00:02:15,711

Brec Bassinger: home schooling for the rest of it.

66

00:02:16,361 --> 00:02:16,822

Marc Preston: So what's that?

67

00:02:17,123 --> 00:02:18,648

Marc Preston: I've always been curious what that's like.

68

00:02:18,708 --> 00:02:20,453

Marc Preston: Some people love that because it kind of

69

00:02:20,473 --> 00:02:22,699

Marc Preston: gives them the freedom to kind of do

70

00:02:22,739 --> 00:02:24,406

Marc Preston: whatever, and then others are like man, I

71

00:02:24,426 --> 00:02:25,992

Marc Preston: really wanted that high school experience.

72

00:02:26,112 --> 00:02:27,940

Marc Preston: What kind of where did you fall in on that?

73

00:02:28,281 --> 00:02:30,086

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, I mean, I've always been one who

74

00:02:30,166 --> 00:02:31,670

Brec Bassinger: liked school, not just from like the

75

00:02:31,711 --> 00:02:34,037

Brec Bassinger: education perspective, but also the social

76

00:02:34,137 --> 00:02:35,000

Brec Bassinger: aspect of school too.

77

00:02:36,242 --> 00:02:38,185

Brec Bassinger: So I definitely I feel like there's pros

78

00:02:38,225 --> 00:02:38,626

Brec Bassinger: and cons.

79

00:02:38,666 --> 00:02:40,869

Brec Bassinger: You do, you don't get that homecoming

80

00:02:40,949 --> 00:02:42,932

Brec Bassinger: football game but, that being said, I was

81

00:02:42,992 --> 00:02:44,435

Brec Bassinger: able to graduate high school two years

82

00:02:44,495 --> 00:02:46,663

Brec Bassinger: early Because I just didn't take summer

83

00:02:46,703 --> 00:02:48,467

Brec Bassinger: breaks and did it at my own pace.

84

00:02:48,928 --> 00:02:51,854

Brec Bassinger: So I definitely feel like pros and cons.

85

00:02:52,522 --> 00:02:54,408

Marc Preston: You've been in LA since you were, I guess,

86

00:02:55,110 --> 00:02:56,756

Marc Preston: with like 13, 14?

87

00:02:56,796 --> 00:02:58,000

Marc Preston: I think I've ever read that somewhere.

88

00:02:58,324 --> 00:02:59,134

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, I went to LA.

89

00:02:59,476 --> 00:03:01,001

Brec Bassinger: I went to LA for the very first time when I

90

00:03:01,021 --> 00:03:04,041

Brec Bassinger: was 13, booked my first job and then

91

00:03:04,923 --> 00:03:07,137

Brec Bassinger: officially moved out there, got a place out

92

00:03:07,177 --> 00:03:09,675

Brec Bassinger: there at 15 when the Nickelodeon show got

93

00:03:09,715 --> 00:03:12,002

Brec Bassinger: picked up and I needed to live out there.

94

00:03:12,323 --> 00:03:13,126

Marc Preston: Now, did you live in that?

95

00:03:13,215 --> 00:03:15,423

Marc Preston: I know there is an apartment complex out

96

00:03:15,443 --> 00:03:17,382

Marc Preston: there that every young actor seems to live

97

00:03:17,462 --> 00:03:17,503

Marc Preston: in.

98

00:03:17,595 --> 00:03:19,221

Marc Preston: It's like this whole ecosystem.

99

00:03:20,135 --> 00:03:20,918

Marc Preston: What's it called again?

100

00:03:21,755 --> 00:03:22,499

Brec Bassinger: The Oakwood.

101

00:03:22,916 --> 00:03:23,812

Marc Preston: OK, yeah, yeah, yeah.

102

00:03:24,055 --> 00:03:25,681

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, funny enough, it's now been bought

103

00:03:25,741 --> 00:03:28,081

Brec Bassinger: out by Ava apartment, so it's no longer

104

00:03:28,221 --> 00:03:30,121

Brec Bassinger: Oakwood, but people still call it Oakwood

105

00:03:30,141 --> 00:03:30,795

Brec Bassinger: because it does it.

106

00:03:30,815 --> 00:03:32,522

Brec Bassinger: Just that name will forever be with it.

107

00:03:33,496 --> 00:03:35,622

Brec Bassinger: I never lived there but I had many of

108

00:03:35,742 --> 00:03:37,697

Brec Bassinger: friends who lived there and I would go over

109

00:03:37,757 --> 00:03:40,906

Brec Bassinger: there for the game nights at the clubhouse

110

00:03:41,115 --> 00:03:44,563

Brec Bassinger: and karaoke and it was quite the social

111

00:03:44,623 --> 00:03:46,146

Brec Bassinger: scene at the Oakwood.

112

00:03:46,975 --> 00:03:48,361

Marc Preston: See, if you're young, it seems like it's

113

00:03:48,715 --> 00:03:51,404

Marc Preston: good to be able to be a kid at least you

114

00:03:51,444 --> 00:03:53,722

Marc Preston: know, and that when you go home you know.

115

00:03:54,315 --> 00:03:56,442

Marc Preston: But it's got to be a weird thing with

116

00:03:56,462 --> 00:03:58,278

Marc Preston: everybody around you who's doing TV and

117

00:03:58,298 --> 00:03:58,579

Marc Preston: stuff.

118

00:03:59,195 --> 00:04:03,916

Marc Preston: Now I know you in doing Star Girl you got

119

00:04:04,598 --> 00:04:06,484

Marc Preston: what's it like to have Luke Wilson as a

120

00:04:06,504 --> 00:04:06,965

Marc Preston: stepdad.

121

00:04:07,195 --> 00:04:09,201

Marc Preston: I mean, you know, fellow Texan, you know.

122

00:04:09,242 --> 00:04:10,084

Marc Preston: So y'all kind of.

123

00:04:10,515 --> 00:04:14,886

Marc Preston: So did you when you knew that he was going

124

00:04:14,906 --> 00:04:17,743

Marc Preston: to be cast and doing that, did you like go

125

00:04:17,783 --> 00:04:19,479

Marc Preston: through like some of his old movies to kind

126

00:04:19,499 --> 00:04:21,277

Marc Preston: of catch up on what Luke was all about and

127

00:04:21,318 --> 00:04:22,342

Marc Preston: kind of his background?

128

00:04:22,775 --> 00:04:23,277

Brec Bassinger: Yeah.

129

00:04:23,779 --> 00:04:26,137

Brec Bassinger: So from the very beginning, like the first

130

00:04:26,217 --> 00:04:27,923

Brec Bassinger: meeting I had with our showrunner, jeff

131

00:04:27,963 --> 00:04:31,942

Brec Bassinger: Johns, he mentioned that his dream Pat

132

00:04:31,982 --> 00:04:35,258

Brec Bassinger: Dugan would be Luke Wilson and I

133

00:04:35,299 --> 00:04:37,004

Brec Bassinger: immediately went home and looked up who he

134

00:04:37,044 --> 00:04:38,379

Brec Bassinger: was, saw that he was from Texas.

135

00:04:39,235 --> 00:04:41,602

Brec Bassinger: But as soon as I saw his face I remembered

136

00:04:41,642 --> 00:04:44,742

Brec Bassinger: him from stuff, specifically Legally Blonde.

137

00:04:44,795 --> 00:04:47,164

Brec Bassinger: That was like what I most knew him from.

138

00:04:47,315 --> 00:04:49,783

Brec Bassinger: I grew up watching that movie, absolutely

139

00:04:50,144 --> 00:04:51,337

Brec Bassinger: loved that movie to this day.

140

00:04:53,215 --> 00:04:53,958

Brec Bassinger: So we finally got.

141

00:04:54,399 --> 00:04:56,185

Brec Bassinger: We actually met for the first time.

142

00:04:56,575 --> 00:05:00,216

Brec Bassinger: Funny enough, it was on Jeff's birthday and

143

00:05:00,376 --> 00:05:04,986

Brec Bassinger: we went to the facility that built Stripe

144

00:05:05,026 --> 00:05:05,587

Brec Bassinger: the Robot.

145

00:05:05,647 --> 00:05:07,760

Brec Bassinger: In our show we have a practical 16 foot

146

00:05:07,820 --> 00:05:10,701

Brec Bassinger: robot and we went to see the robot for the

147

00:05:10,741 --> 00:05:12,718

Brec Bassinger: first time in LA and Luke and I got to meet

148

00:05:12,758 --> 00:05:16,078

Brec Bassinger: and I was so intimidated we're looking back

149

00:05:16,138 --> 00:05:18,535

Brec Bassinger: at so funny because Luke is just like the

150

00:05:18,596 --> 00:05:22,306

Brec Bassinger: sweetest, most humble, like and in the best

151

00:05:22,386 --> 00:05:25,524

Brec Bassinger: way like average Jack guy ever.

152

00:05:26,335 --> 00:05:29,044

Brec Bassinger: But because of his resume and the people he

153

00:05:29,064 --> 00:05:31,642

Brec Bassinger: had worked with, I was nervous to meet him.

154

00:05:31,735 --> 00:05:34,543

Brec Bassinger: And then, on set showing up, I was even

155

00:05:34,584 --> 00:05:36,641

Brec Bassinger: more intimidated to see how he had worked

156

00:05:36,735 --> 00:05:38,422

Brec Bassinger: Cause you know he had been on huge sets

157

00:05:38,535 --> 00:05:41,156

Brec Bassinger: like Wes Anderson films and iconic, iconic

158

00:05:41,177 --> 00:05:46,339

Brec Bassinger: movies, next to Reese Witherspoon, but he

159

00:05:46,941 --> 00:05:49,476

Brec Bassinger: it's been so cool to see not only him, but

160

00:05:49,677 --> 00:05:51,697

Brec Bassinger: Amy Smart, who plays my mom, who also has a

161

00:05:51,757 --> 00:05:54,959

Brec Bassinger: very impressive resume at how they have

162

00:05:55,159 --> 00:06:00,223

Brec Bassinger: balanced their stardom with their normal

163

00:06:00,284 --> 00:06:00,926

Brec Bassinger: lives as well.

164

00:06:01,115 --> 00:06:02,921

Brec Bassinger: And they it's truly showed me that I can.

165

00:06:03,855 --> 00:06:06,143

Brec Bassinger: You can be a successful actor and still be

166

00:06:06,203 --> 00:06:07,499

Brec Bassinger: humble and a great person.

167

00:06:09,215 --> 00:06:10,942

Brec Bassinger: So, as intimidating as it was at the

168

00:06:10,962 --> 00:06:12,760

Brec Bassinger: beginning, they've taught me so much and

169

00:06:12,800 --> 00:06:14,359

Brec Bassinger: I'm so blessed to get to work with them.

170

00:06:14,535 --> 00:06:16,001

Marc Preston: Yeah, I mean Amy Smart kind of had the.

171

00:06:16,315 --> 00:06:17,780

Marc Preston: She's kind of had that arc where she kind

172

00:06:17,821 --> 00:06:19,820

Marc Preston: of started where you are right now.

173

00:06:20,095 --> 00:06:21,861

Marc Preston: She was doing the teen and you know college

174

00:06:22,021 --> 00:06:25,201

Marc Preston: age, you know stuff and it's.

175

00:06:25,421 --> 00:06:26,816

Marc Preston: My kids and I were catching up on some of

176

00:06:26,836 --> 00:06:29,516

Marc Preston: the episodes and it's such a fun show and

177

00:06:29,576 --> 00:06:31,703

Marc Preston: my son's very much into the whole Marvel

178

00:06:31,764 --> 00:06:34,002

Marc Preston: thing, so but you're on the DC side of

179

00:06:34,082 --> 00:06:34,343

Marc Preston: things.

180

00:06:34,435 --> 00:06:36,563

Marc Preston: So, kind of going back in your origin story,

181

00:06:36,816 --> 00:06:38,421

Marc Preston: I was kind of curious now, when you were

182

00:06:38,441 --> 00:06:40,119

Marc Preston: growing up, when you were in school, when

183

00:06:40,139 --> 00:06:41,437

Marc Preston: you were going to school, what were you

184

00:06:41,478 --> 00:06:41,900

Marc Preston: involved in?

185

00:06:41,975 --> 00:06:43,620

Marc Preston: Were you studious?

186

00:06:43,901 --> 00:06:45,597

Marc Preston: Were you doing that thing, or were you kind

187

00:06:45,637 --> 00:06:48,024

Marc Preston: of also into your extracurriculars and

188

00:06:48,064 --> 00:06:48,385

Marc Preston: whatnot?

189

00:06:50,098 --> 00:06:50,279

Brec Bassinger: Both.

190

00:06:51,322 --> 00:06:53,006

Brec Bassinger: I was too busy then.

191

00:06:53,175 --> 00:06:55,743

Brec Bassinger: I always, even to this day, spread myself

192

00:06:55,803 --> 00:06:57,801

Brec Bassinger: too thin among my many of hobbies.

193

00:06:57,895 --> 00:07:00,023

Brec Bassinger: I'm a woman with many, many hobbies, but I

194

00:07:00,063 --> 00:07:00,183

Brec Bassinger: did.

195

00:07:00,255 --> 00:07:03,164

Brec Bassinger: I always loved the studious side of things.

196

00:07:03,855 --> 00:07:06,463

Brec Bassinger: I was a math elite and went to districts

197

00:07:06,503 --> 00:07:08,379

Brec Bassinger: and regionals and won a gold medal doing

198

00:07:08,580 --> 00:07:09,583

Brec Bassinger: the math elite stuff.

199

00:07:09,895 --> 00:07:13,225

Brec Bassinger: But then also I did five events in track

200

00:07:13,265 --> 00:07:15,061

Brec Bassinger: and field and was a competitive cheerleader

201

00:07:15,135 --> 00:07:16,359

Brec Bassinger: and then a school cheerleader.

202

00:07:17,243 --> 00:07:19,141

Marc Preston: And Isn't competitive cheerleading really

203

00:07:19,181 --> 00:07:20,380

Marc Preston: big in the Dallas for Orth area.

204

00:07:20,876 --> 00:07:22,422

Marc Preston: I just seem to remember a lot of people

205

00:07:22,442 --> 00:07:22,683

Marc Preston: doing that.

206

00:07:23,055 --> 00:07:24,780

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, it's huge.

207

00:07:24,820 --> 00:07:27,187

Brec Bassinger: And it's so funny that back in the day

208

00:07:27,255 --> 00:07:28,721

Brec Bassinger: people didn't really think of cheerleading

209

00:07:28,761 --> 00:07:31,061

Brec Bassinger: as a sport, because I was literally like 10

210

00:07:31,121 --> 00:07:32,656

Brec Bassinger: years old, walking around with like an

211

00:07:32,777 --> 00:07:35,177

Brec Bassinger: eight pack because of how good of shape I

212

00:07:35,217 --> 00:07:38,095

Brec Bassinger: was in, because of my competitive cheer, I

213

00:07:38,135 --> 00:07:39,762

Brec Bassinger: could do like 50 pushups in a row.

214

00:07:39,875 --> 00:07:41,902

Brec Bassinger: I look back and I'm like, wow, I was such

215

00:07:41,943 --> 00:07:43,661

Brec Bassinger: an athlete I could not do that anymore.

216

00:07:45,358 --> 00:07:47,664

Brec Bassinger: But I definitely stayed busy between sports

217

00:07:48,346 --> 00:07:49,629

Brec Bassinger: and school.

218

00:07:50,195 --> 00:07:52,343

Brec Bassinger: And then actually there was a time where I

219

00:07:52,383 --> 00:07:54,442

Brec Bassinger: started acting class because when I was 10,

220

00:07:54,575 --> 00:07:55,678

Brec Bassinger: my mom finally let me do.

221

00:07:55,698 --> 00:07:58,718

Brec Bassinger: I had been annoying her about wanting to do

222

00:07:58,738 --> 00:07:59,581

Brec Bassinger: it for the longest time.

223

00:07:59,875 --> 00:08:01,517

Brec Bassinger: When I turned 10, she's like, okay, we'll

224

00:08:01,537 --> 00:08:02,782

Brec Bassinger: put you into some acting lessons.

225

00:08:03,396 --> 00:08:04,842

Brec Bassinger: And it was at that time I did.

226

00:08:04,935 --> 00:08:07,755

Brec Bassinger: I had to start picking and choosing and I

227

00:08:07,796 --> 00:08:10,244

Brec Bassinger: guess it was my eighth grade year.

228

00:08:10,755 --> 00:08:13,362

Brec Bassinger: I had to start giving stuff up to really

229

00:08:13,423 --> 00:08:14,385

Brec Bassinger: focus on acting.

230

00:08:14,855 --> 00:08:16,522

Marc Preston: What made you wanna look at acting as a

231

00:08:16,602 --> 00:08:16,843

Marc Preston: thing?

232

00:08:16,975 --> 00:08:18,802

Marc Preston: Was it just that you love watching the

233

00:08:18,862 --> 00:08:20,285

Marc Preston: movies and you're like I wanna do that?

234

00:08:20,395 --> 00:08:23,296

Marc Preston: Or you just was theater just you know the

235

00:08:23,336 --> 00:08:24,561

Marc Preston: kids that you liked hanging out with.

236

00:08:24,655 --> 00:08:25,398

Marc Preston: What got you into that?

237

00:08:26,637 --> 00:08:30,306

Brec Bassinger: This sounds very like oh, do, do, do, do,

238

00:08:30,446 --> 00:08:33,901

Brec Bassinger: clouds, dreams, but I really feel like it

239

00:08:33,941 --> 00:08:34,664

Brec Bassinger: was my destiny.

240

00:08:34,835 --> 00:08:37,403

Brec Bassinger: I don't think there was anything in

241

00:08:37,503 --> 00:08:39,961

Brec Bassinger: particular that made me like I wanna be

242

00:08:40,001 --> 00:08:42,179

Brec Bassinger: like this actress or I wanna be on a show

243

00:08:42,239 --> 00:08:42,741

Brec Bassinger: like this.

244

00:08:43,395 --> 00:08:44,961

Brec Bassinger: I, just from the time I was probably five

245

00:08:45,021 --> 00:08:46,638

Brec Bassinger: or six years old, people would come up to

246

00:08:46,678 --> 00:08:48,437

Brec Bassinger: me and they'd ask like, oh, what do you

247

00:08:48,457 --> 00:08:49,521

Brec Bassinger: wanna be when you're older?

248

00:08:50,095 --> 00:08:52,082

Brec Bassinger: And I literally would say I don't want to

249

00:08:52,122 --> 00:08:54,221

Brec Bassinger: be anything, I'm gonna be an actress.

250

00:08:54,675 --> 00:08:56,778

Brec Bassinger: I was a very sassy child but I just like

251

00:08:56,858 --> 00:08:58,557

Brec Bassinger: knew from a young age like this is what I

252

00:08:58,598 --> 00:08:59,542

Brec Bassinger: was destined to do.

253

00:08:59,675 --> 00:09:03,200

Brec Bassinger: I felt very called to do it and I do see

254

00:09:03,220 --> 00:09:05,557

Brec Bassinger: that as very much of a blessing, because LA

255

00:09:06,480 --> 00:09:09,778

Brec Bassinger: going there and there being so many blonde,

256

00:09:09,879 --> 00:09:11,944

Brec Bassinger: blue-eyed girls and I was just one of the

257

00:09:12,044 --> 00:09:13,838

Brec Bassinger: thousands, it could have been very

258

00:09:13,899 --> 00:09:14,541

Brec Bassinger: intimidating.

259

00:09:14,655 --> 00:09:15,879

Brec Bassinger: But I kind of just went in with the

260

00:09:16,000 --> 00:09:18,861

Brec Bassinger: attitude of like no, it might not be a

261

00:09:18,941 --> 00:09:21,039

Brec Bassinger: quick thing, it might be like a long-term

262

00:09:21,119 --> 00:09:24,417

Brec Bassinger: 10, 20 years before I make it but this is

263

00:09:24,457 --> 00:09:25,140

Brec Bassinger: what I'm gonna do.

264

00:09:25,977 --> 00:09:26,801

Brec Bassinger: So I never doubted it.

265

00:09:26,895 --> 00:09:28,562

Brec Bassinger: There was never like a plan B for me.

266

00:09:28,735 --> 00:09:30,121

Marc Preston: You've given me a new phrase do, do, do

267

00:09:30,161 --> 00:09:31,921

Marc Preston: clouds and I'm gonna be using that from now

268

00:09:31,941 --> 00:09:31,981

Marc Preston: on.

269

00:09:33,580 --> 00:09:35,105

Brec Bassinger: I say do, do do all the time.

270

00:09:35,155 --> 00:09:36,601

Brec Bassinger: It's actually something I refer to as start

271

00:09:36,641 --> 00:09:37,183

Brec Bassinger: with star girl.

272

00:09:37,657 --> 00:09:39,322

Brec Bassinger: I go do, do do, star girl.

273

00:09:40,256 --> 00:09:41,600

Brec Bassinger: It's become a bad habit.

274

00:09:42,061 --> 00:09:42,804

Marc Preston: No, that's awesome.

275

00:09:42,884 --> 00:09:44,941

Marc Preston: Not as awesome, but of course, being from a

276

00:09:44,961 --> 00:09:46,539

Marc Preston: Dallas and of course people listening know

277

00:09:47,603 --> 00:09:49,620

Marc Preston: to this, if it happens to Dallas or New

278

00:09:49,681 --> 00:09:50,905

Marc Preston: Orleans I'm always bringing it up.

279

00:09:51,035 --> 00:09:53,563

Marc Preston: But my cousin's actually out your way is an

280

00:09:53,643 --> 00:09:54,225

Marc Preston: orthodontist.

281

00:09:55,217 --> 00:09:57,002

Marc Preston: No, I think he has in one office in Saginaw,

282

00:09:57,043 --> 00:10:00,339

Marc Preston: but oh, interesting who I might have gone

283

00:10:00,379 --> 00:10:00,660

Marc Preston: to him.

284

00:10:00,881 --> 00:10:01,543

Marc Preston: Jeremy Lustig.

285

00:10:01,795 --> 00:10:03,342

Brec Bassinger: I literally think that's the orthodontist

286

00:10:03,395 --> 00:10:05,002

Brec Bassinger: who, like, gave me my Invisalign.

287

00:10:05,797 --> 00:10:07,203

Brec Bassinger: His office is right by Walmart.

288

00:10:07,355 --> 00:10:09,021

Marc Preston: He's a handsome guy, kind of salt and

289

00:10:09,061 --> 00:10:10,838

Marc Preston: pepper hair, kind of just a.

290

00:10:11,239 --> 00:10:14,045

Marc Preston: He's just a nicest guy on planet earth.

291

00:10:14,085 --> 00:10:14,246

Marc Preston: He's a.

292

00:10:15,416 --> 00:10:17,404

Brec Bassinger: Wait, I literally think that's where I go.

293

00:10:17,495 --> 00:10:18,560

Brec Bassinger: You said this was your cousin.

294

00:10:18,655 --> 00:10:19,760

Marc Preston: Yeah, lustig orthodontics.

295

00:10:19,815 --> 00:10:21,101

Marc Preston: Well, I think it's actually changed names.

296

00:10:22,318 --> 00:10:24,503

Marc Preston: He's got a place in, I think, north

297

00:10:24,563 --> 00:10:27,199

Marc Preston: Richland Hills as well, and he's got a few

298

00:10:27,239 --> 00:10:28,323

Marc Preston: offices out west.

299

00:10:28,816 --> 00:10:30,157

Brec Bassinger: Oh, yep, I looked it up.

300

00:10:30,197 --> 00:10:31,795

Brec Bassinger: This is literally where I cause.

301

00:10:31,816 --> 00:10:33,180

Brec Bassinger: There's an orthodontist and there's a

302

00:10:33,260 --> 00:10:35,177

Brec Bassinger: dentist right next to it, and I've been

303

00:10:35,217 --> 00:10:36,915

Brec Bassinger: going to the dentist since it opened and

304

00:10:36,935 --> 00:10:38,441

Brec Bassinger: the orthodontist was the people who, like,

305

00:10:38,883 --> 00:10:40,800

Brec Bassinger: gave me my Invisalign, got me my rubber

306

00:10:40,820 --> 00:10:41,262

Brec Bassinger: bands.

307

00:10:42,195 --> 00:10:44,362

Brec Bassinger: That's what a small world.

308

00:10:44,402 --> 00:10:45,436

Brec Bassinger: That's funny it is.

309

00:10:45,476 --> 00:10:46,260

Marc Preston: In fact, I went to him.

310

00:10:46,335 --> 00:10:47,781

Marc Preston: I just got my braces off.

311

00:10:47,855 --> 00:10:49,159

Marc Preston: I had to get it back on because I do

312

00:10:49,180 --> 00:10:51,297

Marc Preston: voiceover predominantly that's most of what

313

00:10:51,338 --> 00:10:54,039

Marc Preston: I do, that enacting and I noticed that my

314

00:10:54,961 --> 00:10:57,296

Marc Preston: my articulation was going off cause my

315

00:10:57,617 --> 00:10:58,621

Marc Preston: teeth were shifting a little bit.

316

00:10:59,095 --> 00:11:01,003

Marc Preston: So I got braces back on and I was in doubt.

317

00:11:01,256 --> 00:11:02,974

Marc Preston: We actually got connected on Zoom and he

318

00:11:02,994 --> 00:11:04,460

Marc Preston: said get right up in the camera and let me

319

00:11:04,480 --> 00:11:05,023

Marc Preston: look at your teeth.

320

00:11:05,115 --> 00:11:07,662

Marc Preston: And anyway, but yeah, he's, he's.

321

00:11:07,722 --> 00:11:08,625

Marc Preston: We just went to God.

322

00:11:08,645 --> 00:11:09,226

Marc Preston: Where did we go?

323

00:11:09,315 --> 00:11:11,502

Marc Preston: We were just my kids and I were just there.

324

00:11:12,495 --> 00:11:13,500

Marc Preston: God, it was last summer.

325

00:11:13,595 --> 00:11:15,620

Marc Preston: We went to hard eight barbecue.

326

00:11:15,660 --> 00:11:16,422

Marc Preston: I remember that that's.

327

00:11:16,743 --> 00:11:20,256

Brec Bassinger: Yes, yummy, love that place you you.

328

00:11:26,808 --> 00:11:28,353

Marc Preston: When you were looking around and you were

329

00:11:28,413 --> 00:11:30,740

Marc Preston: paying attention to, you know, be it acting

330

00:11:30,820 --> 00:11:31,964

Marc Preston: or whatever, what was it?

331

00:11:32,024 --> 00:11:34,110

Marc Preston: Just that it sounds like you went to work,

332

00:11:34,320 --> 00:11:36,505

Marc Preston: like you viewed it like as a job early on.

333

00:11:36,905 --> 00:11:38,649

Marc Preston: You know not just kind of fanciful thing.

334

00:11:38,669 --> 00:11:39,872

Marc Preston: Was that pretty accurate?

335

00:11:40,212 --> 00:11:41,943

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, so back.

336

00:11:41,963 --> 00:11:44,511

Brec Bassinger: It was like seventh, seventh grade.

337

00:11:44,600 --> 00:11:47,495

Brec Bassinger: I took a short break from acting class, I

338

00:11:47,515 --> 00:11:48,360

Brec Bassinger: took a semester off.

339

00:11:48,681 --> 00:11:50,045

Marc Preston: Where were you taking acting class, like

340

00:11:50,085 --> 00:11:53,383

Marc Preston: over Kim Dawson videos or so Kim Dawson was

341

00:11:53,403 --> 00:11:54,808

Marc Preston: my first agent in Texas.

342

00:11:55,000 --> 00:11:56,846

Brec Bassinger: That's a local agency who's still doing

343

00:11:56,866 --> 00:11:59,043

Brec Bassinger: their thing, but she actually found me

344

00:11:59,143 --> 00:12:00,466

Brec Bassinger: through the acting school Catherine

345

00:12:00,506 --> 00:12:03,563

Brec Bassinger: Sullivan, who has produced so many

346

00:12:03,623 --> 00:12:06,574

Brec Bassinger: professional actors from like Selena Gomez

347

00:12:06,594 --> 00:12:08,280

Brec Bassinger: went there, demi Lovato went there, debbie

348

00:12:08,380 --> 00:12:11,627

Brec Bassinger: Bryant like a lot of the Disney Nick kids

349

00:12:11,848 --> 00:12:13,251

Brec Bassinger: came from that studio.

350

00:12:13,511 --> 00:12:14,173

Marc Preston: Isn't that wild.

351

00:12:14,400 --> 00:12:15,565

Marc Preston: How many come from the Dallas Fort Worth

352

00:12:15,665 --> 00:12:15,886

Marc Preston: area?

353

00:12:16,762 --> 00:12:20,590

Marc Preston: I think Selena was from Plano, I think yeah,

354

00:12:20,870 --> 00:12:21,071

Marc Preston: yeah.

355

00:12:22,280 --> 00:12:23,944

Brec Bassinger: So I do have to give a lot of credit to the

356

00:12:24,065 --> 00:12:25,028

Brec Bassinger: acting studio Kathy.

357

00:12:26,600 --> 00:12:30,068

Brec Bassinger: She knows how to train specifically for

358

00:12:30,449 --> 00:12:32,012

Brec Bassinger: those kid networks, because it is a

359

00:12:32,052 --> 00:12:33,423

Brec Bassinger: different kind of acting with different

360

00:12:33,444 --> 00:12:33,845

Brec Bassinger: timing.

361

00:12:35,121 --> 00:12:35,985

Brec Bassinger: But no, it was seventh grade.

362

00:12:36,200 --> 00:12:38,887

Brec Bassinger: I had taken a semester off because I was

363

00:12:38,907 --> 00:12:40,391

Brec Bassinger: like I'm going to focus on school.

364

00:12:41,140 --> 00:12:42,744

Brec Bassinger: And when I went back to acting class the

365

00:12:42,784 --> 00:12:45,549

Brec Bassinger: following semester, kathy was like upset at

366

00:12:45,570 --> 00:12:45,710

Brec Bassinger: me.

367

00:12:46,371 --> 00:12:48,443

Brec Bassinger: And she's a hard head, she does not take

368

00:12:48,484 --> 00:12:50,662

Brec Bassinger: crap from anyone and I think that's another

369

00:12:50,682 --> 00:12:52,326

Brec Bassinger: reason she produces a lot of successful

370

00:12:52,426 --> 00:12:52,707

Brec Bassinger: actors.

371

00:12:52,767 --> 00:12:56,664

Brec Bassinger: Because she told me she was like if you

372

00:12:56,724 --> 00:12:59,931

Brec Bassinger: want to be successful, this can't just be a

373

00:12:59,951 --> 00:13:00,212

Brec Bassinger: hobby.

374

00:13:01,020 --> 00:13:02,165

Brec Bassinger: You have to really want to do this.

375

00:13:02,380 --> 00:13:03,464

Brec Bassinger: If this is a hobby and you just want to

376

00:13:03,484 --> 00:13:05,341

Brec Bassinger: take acting class, that's fine, but I know

377

00:13:05,381 --> 00:13:06,305

Brec Bassinger: that's not what you want.

378

00:13:06,800 --> 00:13:08,361

Brec Bassinger: So you don't need to be taking breaks, you

379

00:13:08,381 --> 00:13:09,325

Brec Bassinger: need to be really studying.

380

00:13:09,920 --> 00:13:11,604

Brec Bassinger: And so that was kind of when my perspective

381

00:13:11,644 --> 00:13:15,252

Brec Bassinger: changed that there is hundreds, thousands

382

00:13:15,801 --> 00:13:19,943

Brec Bassinger: of kids who dream of doing this and if you

383

00:13:20,043 --> 00:13:22,950

Brec Bassinger: want to be successful, you almost do have

384

00:13:22,970 --> 00:13:23,812

Brec Bassinger: to take it seriously.

385

00:13:24,000 --> 00:13:25,205

Brec Bassinger: Like it is, it is a job.

386

00:13:25,880 --> 00:13:27,605

Brec Bassinger: You would be getting paid for this job.

387

00:13:29,640 --> 00:13:31,507

Brec Bassinger: And then so eighth grade came around and I

388

00:13:31,567 --> 00:13:35,100

Brec Bassinger: started like I missed a volleyball game to

389

00:13:35,200 --> 00:13:38,424

Brec Bassinger: go to an audition and my volleyball coach

390

00:13:38,865 --> 00:13:41,071

Brec Bassinger: set me out like binged me for the rest of

391

00:13:41,091 --> 00:13:42,604

Brec Bassinger: the season because she thought I was so

392

00:13:42,785 --> 00:13:44,975

Brec Bassinger: silly to go to an audition instead of a

393

00:13:45,035 --> 00:13:46,060

Brec Bassinger: middle school volleyball game.

394

00:13:46,180 --> 00:13:47,507

Marc Preston: It doesn't kind of suck, though, for a

395

00:13:47,568 --> 00:13:49,598

Marc Preston: school kid, because you've got this tug of

396

00:13:49,638 --> 00:13:51,526

Marc Preston: war starting to happen and then you're

397

00:13:51,546 --> 00:13:54,116

Marc Preston: having to make some decisions that are also

398

00:13:54,156 --> 00:13:56,105

Marc Preston: impacting you socially as well in schools.

399

00:13:56,240 --> 00:13:58,287

Marc Preston: So that's kind of you know, it seems like

400

00:13:58,327 --> 00:13:58,507

Marc Preston: that.

401

00:13:59,420 --> 00:14:02,007

Brec Bassinger: Oh, I was so hurt because before that I had

402

00:14:02,047 --> 00:14:03,872

Brec Bassinger: been a starting player and all around

403

00:14:03,912 --> 00:14:04,152

Brec Bassinger: player.

404

00:14:04,200 --> 00:14:06,262

Brec Bassinger: I played the whole game and then after that

405

00:14:06,302 --> 00:14:08,347

Brec Bassinger: they would put me in for one play every

406

00:14:08,367 --> 00:14:09,811

Brec Bassinger: single game, just so they didn't get in

407

00:14:09,831 --> 00:14:10,923

Brec Bassinger: trouble, and that's it.

408

00:14:11,920 --> 00:14:13,829

Brec Bassinger: But I almost use that as a motivation,

409

00:14:13,910 --> 00:14:15,879

Brec Bassinger: because to me they thought I was just doing

410

00:14:15,899 --> 00:14:16,763

Brec Bassinger: some thing silly.

411

00:14:17,500 --> 00:14:19,085

Brec Bassinger: I use that as a motivation to, like, almost

412

00:14:19,166 --> 00:14:19,968

Brec Bassinger: prove them wrong.

413

00:14:20,520 --> 00:14:22,409

Brec Bassinger: And three years later I'd been on the

414

00:14:22,449 --> 00:14:23,073

Brec Bassinger: Nickelodeon show.

415

00:14:23,093 --> 00:14:24,600

Brec Bassinger: I came back and the volleyball coach

416

00:14:24,781 --> 00:14:26,887

Brec Bassinger: actually set me down and apologized to me.

417

00:14:26,927 --> 00:14:27,208

Marc Preston: Really.

418

00:14:28,000 --> 00:14:29,666

Brec Bassinger: And was like I'm so sorry that I kind of

419

00:14:29,786 --> 00:14:30,489

Brec Bassinger: isolated you.

420

00:14:30,620 --> 00:14:32,686

Brec Bassinger: I didn't realize what this meant to you and

421

00:14:32,706 --> 00:14:34,010

Brec Bassinger: how seriously you were taking it.

422

00:14:34,840 --> 00:14:37,607

Brec Bassinger: So that was kind of a very full, full

423

00:14:37,627 --> 00:14:39,172

Brec Bassinger: circle moment for me.

424

00:14:39,380 --> 00:14:41,130

Marc Preston: Were your parents really endorsing this?

425

00:14:41,271 --> 00:14:42,799

Marc Preston: Or are they kind of like, you know, hey,

426

00:14:42,819 --> 00:14:44,647

Marc Preston: this is what you, who was driving the train

427

00:14:44,707 --> 00:14:44,928

Marc Preston: on this?

428

00:14:45,260 --> 00:14:47,326

Marc Preston: Or was it kind of like like the way I am

429

00:14:47,346 --> 00:14:48,670

Marc Preston: with my daughter, emma, who plays

430

00:14:48,930 --> 00:14:51,165

Marc Preston: volleyball, but they started practice early

431

00:14:51,241 --> 00:14:53,112

Marc Preston: this summer and she's like two weeks after

432

00:14:53,188 --> 00:14:54,347

Marc Preston: school got on and she's like I don't know

433

00:14:54,387 --> 00:14:56,201

Marc Preston: if I want to spend my summer, you know.

434

00:14:56,221 --> 00:14:57,485

Marc Preston: So it's like, hey, you know, if you do it,

435

00:14:57,525 --> 00:14:58,066

Marc Preston: commit to it.

436

00:14:58,267 --> 00:14:58,989

Marc Preston: That was my thing.

437

00:14:59,460 --> 00:15:00,183

Marc Preston: You don't have to do it.

438

00:15:01,040 --> 00:15:02,453

Marc Preston: What was your parents' approach when you

439

00:15:02,492 --> 00:15:04,163

Marc Preston: were in eighth grade and you're like I want

440

00:15:04,201 --> 00:15:04,723

Marc Preston: to be an actor.

441

00:15:05,405 --> 00:15:06,228

Brec Bassinger: They were clueless.

442

00:15:06,440 --> 00:15:09,447

Brec Bassinger: You know, being from Saginaw, texas, we

443

00:15:09,707 --> 00:15:11,912

Brec Bassinger: they didn't know the first place to start,

444

00:15:12,600 --> 00:15:14,866

Brec Bassinger: but they my dad, much like it sounds like

445

00:15:14,947 --> 00:15:16,591

Brec Bassinger: you was always one like if you want to do

446

00:15:16,720 --> 00:15:18,004

Brec Bassinger: it, we're going to commit to it and we're

447

00:15:18,024 --> 00:15:20,250

Brec Bassinger: going to figure out how to support you.

448

00:15:21,000 --> 00:15:23,406

Brec Bassinger: So once again, going back to like Kim

449

00:15:23,446 --> 00:15:25,151

Brec Bassinger: Dawson and Catherine Sullivan, there were

450

00:15:25,191 --> 00:15:27,586

Brec Bassinger: people there who were working and kind of

451

00:15:27,667 --> 00:15:28,629

Brec Bassinger: knew the LA Marcet.

452

00:15:29,140 --> 00:15:30,427

Brec Bassinger: So I give so much credit to them for

453

00:15:30,487 --> 00:15:33,222

Brec Bassinger: helping my mom and being being kind to help

454

00:15:33,302 --> 00:15:34,447

Brec Bassinger: guide us on what to do.

455

00:15:34,660 --> 00:15:38,382

Brec Bassinger: And the manager my first manager I'm still

456

00:15:38,402 --> 00:15:40,042

Brec Bassinger: with her to this day, so I've been with her

457

00:15:40,103 --> 00:15:42,370

Brec Bassinger: now for 11 years.

458

00:15:42,821 --> 00:15:44,126

Brec Bassinger: She found me in Texas.

459

00:15:44,480 --> 00:15:46,107

Brec Bassinger: She actually helped me get with Kim Dawson,

460

00:15:46,641 --> 00:15:48,081

Brec Bassinger: helped me get an LA agent, and it was

461

00:15:48,121 --> 00:15:49,300

Brec Bassinger: really, I feel, like she was one of the

462

00:15:49,321 --> 00:15:50,926

Brec Bassinger: driving forces to actually help move me

463

00:15:51,027 --> 00:15:51,448

Brec Bassinger: forward.

464

00:15:51,920 --> 00:15:54,389

Brec Bassinger: But my mom was next to me the whole time

465

00:15:54,720 --> 00:15:56,426

Brec Bassinger: traveling back and forth between LA and

466

00:15:56,447 --> 00:15:56,788

Brec Bassinger: Texas.

467

00:15:56,848 --> 00:15:57,541

Brec Bassinger: To me, yeah, that's.

468

00:15:57,561 --> 00:15:59,428

Marc Preston: The next question I've got for you is how

469

00:15:59,448 --> 00:16:02,970

Marc Preston: did that work, because you have siblings,

470

00:16:03,402 --> 00:16:05,420

Marc Preston: and how was that working with the you know

471

00:16:05,460 --> 00:16:06,143

Marc Preston: who's in Texas?

472

00:16:06,223 --> 00:16:07,468

Marc Preston: How's it working with you in LA?

473

00:16:07,600 --> 00:16:08,685

Marc Preston: How did that break out for you?

474

00:16:09,342 --> 00:16:12,144

Brec Bassinger: It was difficult because my dad, his job up

475

00:16:12,224 --> 00:16:14,506

Brec Bassinger: until that point was he was a fish farmer,

476

00:16:15,100 --> 00:16:16,645

Brec Bassinger: so you can't really pick up and move your

477

00:16:16,705 --> 00:16:17,708

Brec Bassinger: farm to California.

478

00:16:18,460 --> 00:16:20,540

Brec Bassinger: So he was stuck, he couldn't move, we

479

00:16:20,560 --> 00:16:22,881

Brec Bassinger: couldn't pick up and move the family One.

480

00:16:22,981 --> 00:16:23,825

Brec Bassinger: I've two older brothers.

481

00:16:24,261 --> 00:16:25,726

Brec Bassinger: One of them, fortunately, was already in

482

00:16:25,767 --> 00:16:26,964

Brec Bassinger: college, so he had moved out.

483

00:16:27,480 --> 00:16:30,549

Brec Bassinger: And then the brother, the middle brother,

484

00:16:30,749 --> 00:16:34,406

Brec Bassinger: middle child, he was in his senior year of

485

00:16:34,466 --> 00:16:36,704

Brec Bassinger: high school when I really started traveling

486

00:16:36,744 --> 00:16:38,329

Brec Bassinger: back and forth between LA.

487

00:16:38,780 --> 00:16:40,707

Brec Bassinger: So it definitely it took sacrifices from

488

00:16:40,747 --> 00:16:42,864

Brec Bassinger: not only my mom but also definitely him,

489

00:16:42,884 --> 00:16:44,481

Brec Bassinger: because there was a good period where he

490

00:16:44,521 --> 00:16:46,569

Brec Bassinger: was kind of having to navigate things

491

00:16:47,523 --> 00:16:48,988

Brec Bassinger: without both of his parents home.

492

00:16:49,420 --> 00:16:51,668

Brec Bassinger: So I'm very fortunate that he was also

493

00:16:51,708 --> 00:16:53,164

Brec Bassinger: supportive of me wanting to do this.

494

00:16:54,760 --> 00:16:56,065

Brec Bassinger: At the beginning it was definitely very

495

00:16:56,126 --> 00:16:58,847

Brec Bassinger: difficult, like financially LA is extremely

496

00:16:58,908 --> 00:17:02,287

Brec Bassinger: expensive and expecting my parents just to

497

00:17:02,367 --> 00:17:04,782

Brec Bassinger: support me living in LA is really

498

00:17:04,862 --> 00:17:05,485

Brec Bassinger: unrealistic.

499

00:17:06,120 --> 00:17:08,989

Brec Bassinger: So I was so lucky that my very first pilot

500

00:17:09,009 --> 00:17:10,846

Brec Bassinger: season like the first three weeks I ever

501

00:17:10,886 --> 00:17:13,665

Brec Bassinger: went down to LA I booked a recurring role

502

00:17:13,786 --> 00:17:16,001

Brec Bassinger: on a different Nickelodeon show that kind

503

00:17:16,021 --> 00:17:18,649

Brec Bassinger: of paid for me to go back and forth between

504

00:17:18,669 --> 00:17:21,026

Brec Bassinger: LA and was able from then to kind of

505

00:17:21,087 --> 00:17:24,042

Brec Bassinger: support this dream financially, but up

506

00:17:24,122 --> 00:17:27,542

Brec Bassinger: until then both my parents had made so many

507

00:17:27,603 --> 00:17:28,888

Brec Bassinger: sacrifices to do that.

508

00:17:29,120 --> 00:17:30,966

Marc Preston: How many months out of the year are you

509

00:17:31,367 --> 00:17:32,110

Marc Preston: shooting Stargirl?

510

00:17:32,400 --> 00:17:33,385

Brec Bassinger: Depends on the season.

511

00:17:33,800 --> 00:17:35,622

Brec Bassinger: First season took eight months and in the

512

00:17:35,662 --> 00:17:37,676

Brec Bassinger: past two seasons were between six and seven

513

00:17:37,716 --> 00:17:37,917

Brec Bassinger: months.

514

00:17:38,380 --> 00:17:40,100

Marc Preston: So do you kind of head back to Texas and

515

00:17:40,141 --> 00:17:41,502

Marc Preston: get a little time off and get a little

516

00:17:41,542 --> 00:17:44,186

Marc Preston: change of atmosphere in between you taking

517

00:17:44,227 --> 00:17:44,447

Marc Preston: a break?

518

00:17:44,800 --> 00:17:46,642

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, once again, every hiatus thus far has

519

00:17:46,662 --> 00:17:48,582

Brec Bassinger: been extremely different, considering our

520

00:17:48,642 --> 00:17:50,368

Brec Bassinger: first hiatus was 2020.

521

00:17:50,880 --> 00:17:52,586

Brec Bassinger: So definitely which has stuck at home.

522

00:17:52,626 --> 00:17:55,485

Brec Bassinger: The whole time actually was in LA, which

523

00:17:55,886 --> 00:17:58,663

Brec Bassinger: was not the most fun, which ended up

524

00:17:58,704 --> 00:18:00,681

Brec Bassinger: pushing me to move back to Texas, which is

525

00:18:00,721 --> 00:18:01,485

Brec Bassinger: why I'm here now.

526

00:18:02,920 --> 00:18:05,227

Brec Bassinger: And then last hiatus, I was fortunate

527

00:18:05,267 --> 00:18:07,462

Brec Bassinger: enough to do a movie which should be coming

528

00:18:07,523 --> 00:18:09,248

Brec Bassinger: out soon, called man in the White Band,

529

00:18:09,900 --> 00:18:12,348

Brec Bassinger: with Sean Aston and Ali Larder.

530

00:18:12,528 --> 00:18:12,990

Marc Preston: Oh really.

531

00:18:13,500 --> 00:18:14,163

Brec Bassinger: Once again.

532

00:18:14,183 --> 00:18:16,043

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, another great cast that I got to work

533

00:18:16,083 --> 00:18:18,206

Brec Bassinger: with and that should be coming out sometime

534

00:18:18,280 --> 00:18:19,023

Brec Bassinger: in the end of this year.

535

00:18:19,620 --> 00:18:21,327

Brec Bassinger: And then this hiatus I'm actually going to.

536

00:18:21,600 --> 00:18:24,829

Brec Bassinger: I filmed one movie in LA which is like a

537

00:18:24,889 --> 00:18:26,782

Brec Bassinger: quick cameo role, and then I'm going to

538

00:18:26,822 --> 00:18:29,169

Brec Bassinger: film another movie in Oregon in about a

539

00:18:29,209 --> 00:18:29,410

Brec Bassinger: month.

540

00:18:29,600 --> 00:18:31,407

Brec Bassinger: So I try to like do at least one or two

541

00:18:31,487 --> 00:18:34,225

Brec Bassinger: projects during my hiatus, and then, other

542

00:18:34,245 --> 00:18:36,185

Brec Bassinger: than that I do, I try to just like mentally

543

00:18:36,245 --> 00:18:38,887

Brec Bassinger: get healthy again, because the hours of

544

00:18:38,947 --> 00:18:41,347

Brec Bassinger: Star Girl are definitely mentally taxing.

545

00:18:41,520 --> 00:18:43,506

Marc Preston: Yeah, are you in Texas or LA right now?

546

00:18:43,807 --> 00:18:45,331

Brec Bassinger: I'm in Texas right now Texas yay, awesome.

547

00:18:45,480 --> 00:18:47,743

Marc Preston: So I'm a little bit envious because I'm

548

00:18:48,265 --> 00:18:49,068

Marc Preston: it's been a little while.

549

00:18:49,140 --> 00:18:50,605

Marc Preston: I kind of have to get my little dose of

550

00:18:50,665 --> 00:18:52,965

Marc Preston: Texas every like once a year, you know.

551

00:18:53,480 --> 00:18:56,067

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, the good barbecue Tex-Mex.

552

00:18:56,268 --> 00:18:56,929

Marc Preston: Hey, I don't, I don't.

553

00:18:56,949 --> 00:18:57,671

Brec Bassinger: Great for your heart.

554

00:18:59,004 --> 00:18:59,847

Marc Preston: I'm not going to lie.

555

00:19:00,461 --> 00:19:01,987

Marc Preston: I got to hit Waterburger at least once.

556

00:19:02,260 --> 00:19:04,348

Marc Preston: That I was talking to a friend of mine in

557

00:19:04,388 --> 00:19:07,002

Marc Preston: Atlanta who's an expat Texan as well, and

558

00:19:07,283 --> 00:19:09,450

Marc Preston: as unsexy as it is, is Taco Bueno.

559

00:19:09,540 --> 00:19:11,267

Marc Preston: You got to go there once, you know.

560

00:19:11,420 --> 00:19:13,998

Brec Bassinger: Taco Bueno yum, my mom, that's like her

561

00:19:14,038 --> 00:19:15,123

Brec Bassinger: favorite, Although I have to say, a lot of

562

00:19:15,143 --> 00:19:17,001

Brec Bassinger: the Taco Buenos have been shutting down and

563

00:19:17,021 --> 00:19:18,265

Brec Bassinger: this is very sad to see.

564

00:19:18,285 --> 00:19:18,365

Brec Bassinger: Yeah.

565

00:19:19,067 --> 00:19:19,770

Marc Preston: You know it's so funny.

566

00:19:19,920 --> 00:19:21,647

Marc Preston: So many people that I know actors are

567

00:19:21,687 --> 00:19:21,968

Marc Preston: moving.

568

00:19:22,240 --> 00:19:23,866

Marc Preston: A lot of them are moving from LA to Austin

569

00:19:24,348 --> 00:19:26,146

Marc Preston: now and a lot of the folks I'm talking with

570

00:19:26,780 --> 00:19:27,905

Marc Preston: the paradigm has shifted.

571

00:19:28,341 --> 00:19:30,548

Marc Preston: I kind of took a hiatus from on-camera

572

00:19:30,588 --> 00:19:30,989

Marc Preston: stuff to.

573

00:19:31,460 --> 00:19:33,367

Marc Preston: You know, I got my kids are rapping high

574

00:19:33,407 --> 00:19:36,428

Marc Preston: school and I'm keeping busy with what I'm

575

00:19:36,468 --> 00:19:36,689

Marc Preston: doing.

576

00:19:37,560 --> 00:19:40,430

Marc Preston: But I was just speaking with another actor.

577

00:19:40,480 --> 00:19:41,344

Marc Preston: He's like man, you don't have to go on

578

00:19:41,424 --> 00:19:42,147

Marc Preston: auditions anymore.

579

00:19:42,421 --> 00:19:43,746

Marc Preston: Everything is taped now.

580

00:19:44,960 --> 00:19:47,128

Marc Preston: You know, long-term, if you had your choice

581

00:19:47,220 --> 00:19:48,801

Marc Preston: of where you would love to live, are you

582

00:19:49,263 --> 00:19:51,724

Marc Preston: really love an LA or you'd like kind of

583

00:19:51,764 --> 00:19:52,868

Marc Preston: find a place in Texas?

584

00:19:53,521 --> 00:19:56,068

Brec Bassinger: I changed my answer every single day.

585

00:19:56,920 --> 00:19:58,708

Brec Bassinger: As of now, I have a place in Texas.

586

00:19:59,141 --> 00:20:00,326

Brec Bassinger: I needed a home base.

587

00:20:00,580 --> 00:20:03,168

Brec Bassinger: I was traveling so much for work that I was

588

00:20:03,308 --> 00:20:05,645

Brec Bassinger: losing my mail because I lived in like five

589

00:20:05,685 --> 00:20:08,386

Brec Bassinger: different addresses in a year and a half

590

00:20:08,620 --> 00:20:09,926

Brec Bassinger: and I'm like this is bananas.

591

00:20:10,720 --> 00:20:13,690

Brec Bassinger: So I, as of now, I have a home in Texas

592

00:20:13,960 --> 00:20:15,987

Brec Bassinger: that will be my home base indefinitely.

593

00:20:16,900 --> 00:20:18,947

Brec Bassinger: That being said, there is something so

594

00:20:19,027 --> 00:20:23,410

Brec Bassinger: special about LA and the amount of artistic

595

00:20:23,430 --> 00:20:23,631

Brec Bassinger: people.

596

00:20:23,700 --> 00:20:23,861

Brec Bassinger: You know.

597

00:20:23,881 --> 00:20:25,381

Brec Bassinger: People a lot of times move there for the

598

00:20:25,421 --> 00:20:26,621

Brec Bassinger: entertainment industry, so you're just

599

00:20:26,641 --> 00:20:28,467

Brec Bassinger: surrounded by like-minded people in that

600

00:20:28,528 --> 00:20:30,767

Brec Bassinger: sense, and I miss that so much.

601

00:20:30,900 --> 00:20:34,630

Brec Bassinger: So eventually I can see myself making my

602

00:20:34,690 --> 00:20:37,125

Brec Bassinger: way back to LA, but as of now, I'm in no

603

00:20:37,205 --> 00:20:40,128

Brec Bassinger: rush, I'm just going with the flow.

604

00:20:40,240 --> 00:20:41,680

Marc Preston: Yeah, that's you know, that's the way I

605

00:20:41,700 --> 00:20:42,363

Marc Preston: think you gotta do.

606

00:20:42,423 --> 00:20:43,802

Marc Preston: It is just kind of like what's that phrase?

607

00:20:43,842 --> 00:20:45,849

Marc Preston: Man plans, God laughs, that kind of a deal.

608

00:20:46,281 --> 00:20:47,963

Brec Bassinger: Oh love, I've never heard that I love that.

609

00:20:48,580 --> 00:20:49,525

Marc Preston: Of course you're talking about all the

610

00:20:49,545 --> 00:20:51,646

Marc Preston: things you have to do being with a DC

611

00:20:52,028 --> 00:20:52,409

Marc Preston: universe.

612

00:20:52,469 --> 00:20:54,066

Marc Preston: Now you gotta be hitting some of the cons

613

00:20:54,126 --> 00:20:56,146

Marc Preston: you know, like the Comic Con or Dragon Con.

614

00:20:56,800 --> 00:20:57,785

Marc Preston: Have you been doing a lot of that?

615

00:20:58,300 --> 00:21:01,108

Brec Bassinger: Well, our first season did premiere May

616

00:21:01,128 --> 00:21:01,790

Brec Bassinger: 2020.

617

00:21:02,300 --> 00:21:04,880

Brec Bassinger: And it was it's been interesting, this

618

00:21:04,921 --> 00:21:06,586

Brec Bassinger: whole roller coaster that I like to call

619

00:21:06,626 --> 00:21:09,686

Brec Bassinger: Star Girl, because when, originally, when I

620

00:21:09,726 --> 00:21:11,182

Brec Bassinger: got cast at a Star Girl, that's kind of

621

00:21:11,202 --> 00:21:13,242

Brec Bassinger: like the first thing I pictured is going to

622

00:21:13,283 --> 00:21:16,141

Brec Bassinger: Comic-Cons and having people dressed up as

623

00:21:16,763 --> 00:21:19,705

Brec Bassinger: the superhero I'm playing, and for the

624

00:21:19,745 --> 00:21:21,784

Brec Bassinger: first two years I didn't, I didn't get any

625

00:21:21,824 --> 00:21:24,027

Brec Bassinger: of that and it was definitely a hard pill

626

00:21:24,067 --> 00:21:24,709

Brec Bassinger: to swallow.

627

00:21:24,880 --> 00:21:27,841

Brec Bassinger: It's obviously the show has brought me, has

628

00:21:27,901 --> 00:21:29,888

Brec Bassinger: exceeded my expectations in so many ways

629

00:21:29,940 --> 00:21:30,823

Brec Bassinger: and brought me so many things.

630

00:21:30,843 --> 00:21:33,504

Brec Bassinger: I never expected, but I definitely it was

631

00:21:33,524 --> 00:21:35,202

Brec Bassinger: something I felt like I I was kind of

632

00:21:35,243 --> 00:21:35,926

Brec Bassinger: missing out on it.

633

00:21:36,000 --> 00:21:39,345

Brec Bassinger: It was really sad for me, but, as of about

634

00:21:39,445 --> 00:21:42,024

Brec Bassinger: two months ago, I got to go to my very

635

00:21:42,104 --> 00:21:44,765

Brec Bassinger: first convention and I like, on the last

636

00:21:44,805 --> 00:21:47,004

Brec Bassinger: day, I started crying, I like gave a speech

637

00:21:47,446 --> 00:21:49,323

Brec Bassinger: and I was bawling because it was such a

638

00:21:49,363 --> 00:21:51,421

Brec Bassinger: surreal moment to me for, like, I had

639

00:21:51,481 --> 00:21:54,201

Brec Bassinger: filmed three seasons of this show and it

640

00:21:54,221 --> 00:21:55,847

Brec Bassinger: was the first time I was getting to

641

00:21:55,907 --> 00:21:59,989

Brec Bassinger: experience what the typical superhero actor

642

00:22:00,831 --> 00:22:02,034

Brec Bassinger: does their very first year.

643

00:22:02,580 --> 00:22:04,861

Brec Bassinger: So it was such a such a blessing, so

644

00:22:04,941 --> 00:22:06,247

Brec Bassinger: validating and fulfilling.

645

00:22:06,340 --> 00:22:07,546

Marc Preston: Was it at all overwhelming?

646

00:22:07,640 --> 00:22:08,483

Marc Preston: I mean, was it make of?

647

00:22:08,523 --> 00:22:09,025

Marc Preston: You've got?

648

00:22:10,329 --> 00:22:11,503

Marc Preston: You know people like you?

649

00:22:11,764 --> 00:22:13,302

Marc Preston: You've been waiting to go and I'm sure

650

00:22:13,342 --> 00:22:15,784

Marc Preston: people have been waiting to go see you and

651

00:22:15,824 --> 00:22:16,185

Marc Preston: other people.

652

00:22:16,541 --> 00:22:17,795

Marc Preston: Is it overwhelming the amount of people

653

00:22:17,816 --> 00:22:19,505

Marc Preston: that are wanting to just get a get a get a

654

00:22:19,545 --> 00:22:20,208

Marc Preston: piece of break?

655

00:22:20,620 --> 00:22:22,566

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, I, the first one was.

656

00:22:23,147 --> 00:22:26,185

Brec Bassinger: It was in the UK and it was much more

657

00:22:26,346 --> 00:22:28,826

Brec Bassinger: intimate than the American conventions I've

658

00:22:28,886 --> 00:22:29,268

Brec Bassinger: been to.

659

00:22:29,740 --> 00:22:31,747

Brec Bassinger: But after I went so I'm glad that was kind

660

00:22:31,768 --> 00:22:34,226

Brec Bassinger: of like me dipping my toes into the water

661

00:22:34,347 --> 00:22:37,144

Brec Bassinger: because it was it was like a thousand

662

00:22:37,184 --> 00:22:39,431

Brec Bassinger: people at the whole convention, great.

663

00:22:40,941 --> 00:22:42,621

Brec Bassinger: Then I went to the Dallas Con, which was

664

00:22:42,641 --> 00:22:43,646

Brec Bassinger: like my very first.

665

00:22:43,962 --> 00:22:46,579

Brec Bassinger: I actually want to say it's hosted by Comic

666

00:22:46,599 --> 00:22:48,567

Brec Bassinger: Con, but it's called something different.

667

00:22:49,020 --> 00:22:50,326

Brec Bassinger: I was like fan expo.

668

00:22:50,960 --> 00:22:52,626

Marc Preston: What was it like to be doing that at home,

669

00:22:52,947 --> 00:22:53,289

Marc Preston: you know.

670

00:22:53,620 --> 00:22:56,126

Brec Bassinger: Oh yeah, but at that one there was between

671

00:22:56,247 --> 00:22:59,061

Brec Bassinger: 30 and 40,000 people, Wow, and it was so

672

00:22:59,081 --> 00:23:00,044

Brec Bassinger: overwhelming, but it was.

673

00:23:00,666 --> 00:23:03,466

Brec Bassinger: I got up, I drove 45 minutes to the

674

00:23:03,506 --> 00:23:04,308

Brec Bassinger: convention center.

675

00:23:05,121 --> 00:23:08,690

Brec Bassinger: I got 12 free tickets to bring my whole

676

00:23:08,751 --> 00:23:09,152

Brec Bassinger: family.

677

00:23:09,240 --> 00:23:10,606

Brec Bassinger: I had my whole family there.

678

00:23:11,300 --> 00:23:13,681

Brec Bassinger: They set in the panel and thankfully they

679

00:23:13,721 --> 00:23:15,462

Brec Bassinger: didn't ask any questions that could have

680

00:23:15,482 --> 00:23:16,286

Brec Bassinger: gotten me in trouble.

681

00:23:16,400 --> 00:23:18,227

Brec Bassinger: So I'm grateful for them on that part.

682

00:23:19,741 --> 00:23:20,966

Brec Bassinger: But after that I called.

683

00:23:21,280 --> 00:23:23,126

Brec Bassinger: So there's things called convention agents

684

00:23:24,160 --> 00:23:25,425

Brec Bassinger: who get me these conventions.

685

00:23:25,465 --> 00:23:26,048

Marc Preston: I've heard about that.

686

00:23:26,360 --> 00:23:27,464

Brec Bassinger: And I called my.

687

00:23:27,484 --> 00:23:29,161

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, it was such a new thing to me, a new

688

00:23:29,201 --> 00:23:31,821

Brec Bassinger: concept, because I never done it before, I

689

00:23:31,861 --> 00:23:32,122

Brec Bassinger: never.

690

00:23:32,463 --> 00:23:34,401

Brec Bassinger: I didn't understand the process of it, but

691

00:23:34,983 --> 00:23:36,901

Brec Bassinger: I called my convention agent after and I

692

00:23:36,921 --> 00:23:39,104

Brec Bassinger: was like I'm addicted, I want to do more.

693

00:23:40,381 --> 00:23:42,527

Brec Bassinger: This is for me.

694

00:23:42,607 --> 00:23:45,541

Brec Bassinger: This is what Stargirl should feel like at

695

00:23:45,601 --> 00:23:47,547

Brec Bassinger: all times, because it just felt so

696

00:23:48,049 --> 00:23:50,245

Brec Bassinger: fulfilling to meet people that had watched

697

00:23:50,285 --> 00:23:51,489

Brec Bassinger: the show I worked so hard on.

698

00:23:51,820 --> 00:23:53,266

Marc Preston: What's kind of the most common thing you

699

00:23:53,306 --> 00:23:55,547

Marc Preston: experience when people finally meet you.

700

00:23:55,800 --> 00:23:56,745

Marc Preston: What are they asking you?

701

00:23:56,800 --> 00:23:57,262

Marc Preston: What are they?

702

00:23:57,463 --> 00:23:58,486

Marc Preston: What's the experience like?

703

00:23:59,360 --> 00:24:02,157

Brec Bassinger: I'd say mostly it's people just really

704

00:24:02,198 --> 00:24:04,080

Brec Bassinger: telling me how much they love the show and

705

00:24:04,903 --> 00:24:10,721

Brec Bassinger: how it is or one of their favorite CW DC

706

00:24:11,595 --> 00:24:12,540

Brec Bassinger: Arrowverse shows.

707

00:24:12,821 --> 00:24:15,452

Brec Bassinger: In a long long time, and, like I said, for

708

00:24:15,472 --> 00:24:16,981

Brec Bassinger: the first two years, I didn't meet a single

709

00:24:17,042 --> 00:24:18,391

Brec Bassinger: person that had watched our girls.

710

00:24:18,411 --> 00:24:20,418

Brec Bassinger: So in my head it was just me, my family, my

711

00:24:20,458 --> 00:24:22,082

Brec Bassinger: grandma and my dog who watched it.

712

00:24:22,643 --> 00:24:24,568

Brec Bassinger: So to hear like the the first thing is like

713

00:24:25,056 --> 00:24:26,260

Brec Bassinger: I love the first two seasons.

714

00:24:26,320 --> 00:24:28,006

Brec Bassinger: I'm counting down to the third season.

715

00:24:29,117 --> 00:24:30,742

Brec Bassinger: I would say that's probably the most common

716

00:24:31,123 --> 00:24:33,210

Brec Bassinger: common thing I get told when is the third

717

00:24:33,250 --> 00:24:33,852

Brec Bassinger: season come out?

718

00:24:34,213 --> 00:24:34,735

Marc Preston: August 31st.

719

00:24:35,136 --> 00:24:38,304

Brec Bassinger: August yeah, august 31st, on CW 8 pm.

720

00:24:38,545 --> 00:24:41,239

Brec Bassinger: I'm 87, central, I believe, and then I

721

00:24:41,299 --> 00:24:43,884

Brec Bassinger: imagine it'll drop on HBO Max once the full

722

00:24:43,904 --> 00:24:44,886

Brec Bassinger: season airs.

723

00:24:44,906 --> 00:24:45,989

Marc Preston: That's what you've been watching it on.

724

00:24:46,856 --> 00:24:47,458

Marc Preston: You see a dog.

725

00:24:47,478 --> 00:24:48,301

Marc Preston: What kind of dog you got.

726

00:24:48,421 --> 00:24:50,778

Brec Bassinger: I have a little Yorkie poo I.

727

00:24:50,878 --> 00:24:52,563

Brec Bassinger: I got him right when we wrapped season

728

00:24:52,663 --> 00:24:54,428

Brec Bassinger: three because I'm like I need a few months

729

00:24:54,588 --> 00:24:57,055

Brec Bassinger: to train him, and it's been going well.

730

00:24:57,437 --> 00:24:59,387

Marc Preston: Yeah, we have a golden retriever here, so

731

00:24:59,428 --> 00:25:01,116

Marc Preston: he's a little bit bigger but.

732

00:25:01,677 --> 00:25:03,501

Marc Preston: But he always travels back to Texas with us

733

00:25:03,541 --> 00:25:05,105

Marc Preston: and he has a thing for water burger, french

734

00:25:05,125 --> 00:25:06,188

Marc Preston: fries just throwing it out there.

735

00:25:08,947 --> 00:25:09,489

Brec Bassinger: Oh, so like what?

736

00:25:09,529 --> 00:25:10,715

Marc Preston: you've been doing up to now.

737

00:25:10,735 --> 00:25:12,580

Marc Preston: I mean, it is really you again.

738

00:25:12,600 --> 00:25:14,345

Marc Preston: You're part of the DC ecosystem in the

739

00:25:14,406 --> 00:25:14,767

Marc Preston: universe.

740

00:25:15,435 --> 00:25:17,180

Marc Preston: Long-term, what are you looking at, like

741

00:25:17,360 --> 00:25:19,847

Marc Preston: you know if you could have in a perfect

742

00:25:19,907 --> 00:25:22,842

Marc Preston: world, would you like to do another TV

743

00:25:22,882 --> 00:25:23,203

Marc Preston: series?

744

00:25:23,243 --> 00:25:25,310

Marc Preston: Would you like a good mix between that and

745

00:25:25,451 --> 00:25:27,998

Marc Preston: film or others, or would you like to really

746

00:25:28,038 --> 00:25:28,921

Marc Preston: transition into film?

747

00:25:28,961 --> 00:25:30,605

Marc Preston: And what kind of projects would you love to

748

00:25:30,645 --> 00:25:33,440

Marc Preston: work on, or even People or directors you'd

749

00:25:33,460 --> 00:25:34,022

Marc Preston: like to work with?

750

00:25:35,196 --> 00:25:37,319

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, something I've definitely learned

751

00:25:37,379 --> 00:25:40,484

Brec Bassinger: through star girl is however great the

752

00:25:40,524 --> 00:25:43,249

Brec Bassinger: project is, it's more important the people

753

00:25:43,309 --> 00:25:44,110

Brec Bassinger: you're working with.

754

00:25:45,136 --> 00:25:46,720

Brec Bassinger: I feel like our showrunner, jeff, has kind

755

00:25:46,760 --> 00:25:49,546

Brec Bassinger: of instilled that in me, that it's better

756

00:25:49,566 --> 00:25:52,081

Brec Bassinger: to work with great people than necessarily

757

00:25:52,121 --> 00:25:54,613

Brec Bassinger: like a great project, and that I mean you

758

00:25:54,634 --> 00:25:56,740

Brec Bassinger: know like Obviously you want to work on

759

00:25:56,780 --> 00:25:58,264

Brec Bassinger: something you're excited to be a part of,

760

00:25:58,405 --> 00:26:00,310

Brec Bassinger: but just surrounding yourself with people

761

00:26:00,330 --> 00:26:02,017

Brec Bassinger: that you love and make it More fun is so

762

00:26:02,097 --> 00:26:02,599

Brec Bassinger: important.

763

00:26:03,220 --> 00:26:05,787

Brec Bassinger: But and then on the more practical answer,

764

00:26:08,077 --> 00:26:10,505

Brec Bassinger: this is like unpopular opinion among most

765

00:26:10,706 --> 00:26:12,633

Brec Bassinger: actors, because I feel like so many actors

766

00:26:12,673 --> 00:26:14,198

Brec Bassinger: in this day and age, they're like I want to

767

00:26:14,218 --> 00:26:17,047

Brec Bassinger: do something gritty and dramatic and da, da,

768

00:26:17,067 --> 00:26:17,729

Brec Bassinger: da, da da da.

769

00:26:18,190 --> 00:26:19,755

Brec Bassinger: And I'm like I love comedy.

770

00:26:20,017 --> 00:26:21,188

Brec Bassinger: I think it is so fun.

771

00:26:21,389 --> 00:26:24,502

Brec Bassinger: It comes to me More naturally than like the

772

00:26:24,542 --> 00:26:25,926

Brec Bassinger: dramatic side of things.

773

00:26:26,516 --> 00:26:29,347

Brec Bassinger: So I would love to to do some more comedy,

774

00:26:29,487 --> 00:26:31,394

Brec Bassinger: whatever that means, if it's film, tv,

775

00:26:31,474 --> 00:26:33,041

Brec Bassinger: whatever I just think it's very fun.

776

00:26:33,535 --> 00:26:35,461

Marc Preston: Comedy is a little bit more of a challenge.

777

00:26:35,502 --> 00:26:36,886

Marc Preston: So what was your training like?

778

00:26:37,395 --> 00:26:38,240

Marc Preston: Comedy wise?

779

00:26:38,300 --> 00:26:39,787

Marc Preston: Are you a naturally a little bit?

780

00:26:39,808 --> 00:26:41,255

Marc Preston: I mean, are you a little bit of a wise-ass?

781

00:26:41,396 --> 00:26:42,963

Marc Preston: You said you were sassy when you're younger,

782

00:26:43,024 --> 00:26:45,034

Marc Preston: so that it kind of naturally for you for

783

00:26:45,074 --> 00:26:45,154

Marc Preston: sure.

784

00:26:45,557 --> 00:26:50,039

Brec Bassinger: I definitely can be sarcastic and yeah and

785

00:26:50,079 --> 00:26:52,725

Brec Bassinger: sassy, but it comedy is so much more

786

00:26:52,785 --> 00:26:55,237

Brec Bassinger: technical than people think there is.

787

00:26:55,277 --> 00:26:57,322

Brec Bassinger: There's a science to like comedic beats.

788

00:26:57,784 --> 00:27:00,176

Brec Bassinger: So I almost even just like studying Great

789

00:27:00,216 --> 00:27:02,201

Brec Bassinger: comedic actors and their beats and what

790

00:27:02,242 --> 00:27:04,608

Brec Bassinger: makes it funny and their facial expression.

791

00:27:05,115 --> 00:27:06,783

Brec Bassinger: Facial expressions I feel like there is

792

00:27:06,823 --> 00:27:09,555

Brec Bassinger: more of a formula to it and for some people

793

00:27:09,776 --> 00:27:11,261

Brec Bassinger: that's really hard because they don't like

794

00:27:11,281 --> 00:27:12,465

Brec Bassinger: the technical side of acting.

795

00:27:12,475 --> 00:27:14,065

Brec Bassinger: They're like I just want to be free and

796

00:27:14,105 --> 00:27:17,319

Brec Bassinger: expressive, which is great, but comedy

797

00:27:17,339 --> 00:27:18,924

Brec Bassinger: sometimes I feel like you need to be a

798

00:27:18,964 --> 00:27:20,167

Brec Bassinger: little bit more technical with it.

799

00:27:27,439 --> 00:27:28,443

Marc Preston: What actors you know.

800

00:27:28,463 --> 00:27:29,948

Marc Preston: If you say these are kind of like my Mount

801

00:27:29,988 --> 00:27:31,714

Marc Preston: Rushmore, of the comedic actors I like to

802

00:27:31,754 --> 00:27:35,387

Marc Preston: follow and the movies I like, who would

803

00:27:35,407 --> 00:27:36,953

Marc Preston: those people be for the most part?

804

00:27:37,294 --> 00:27:39,362

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, oh, I don't know.

805

00:27:39,403 --> 00:27:41,390

Brec Bassinger: There's so many, so many people I love and

806

00:27:41,410 --> 00:27:41,932

Brec Bassinger: respect.

807

00:27:42,614 --> 00:27:46,205

Brec Bassinger: Recently I really loved Tyka what TT

808

00:27:46,225 --> 00:27:49,795

Brec Bassinger: understated his last name wrong but the

809

00:27:49,855 --> 00:27:53,104

Brec Bassinger: movie Jojo Rabbit he directed, wrote it and

810

00:27:53,325 --> 00:27:55,170

Brec Bassinger: also casted himself in it.

811

00:27:55,651 --> 00:27:57,015

Marc Preston: I mean to make Hitler funny.

812

00:27:57,115 --> 00:27:58,418

Marc Preston: I mean that's a stretch.

813

00:27:58,860 --> 00:28:00,774

Brec Bassinger: It is a stretch and just even that whole

814

00:28:00,834 --> 00:28:01,939

Brec Bassinger: movie, like it was written.

815

00:28:03,184 --> 00:28:05,512

Brec Bassinger: I love when comedy also has a motion in it.

816

00:28:06,013 --> 00:28:08,179

Brec Bassinger: I think it's a very interesting dynamic.

817

00:28:08,519 --> 00:28:12,978

Brec Bassinger: So I love him and then he's probably my new,

818

00:28:13,018 --> 00:28:13,659

Brec Bassinger: my new favorite.

819

00:28:14,201 --> 00:28:14,682

Brec Bassinger: I'll go with him.

820

00:28:14,742 --> 00:28:17,135

Marc Preston: If I think of someone else, I'll say Now,

821

00:28:17,155 --> 00:28:20,001

Marc Preston: did you ever see guys Faris LeCoulson, old

822

00:28:20,041 --> 00:28:20,342

Marc Preston: school?

823

00:28:20,603 --> 00:28:22,254

Marc Preston: God, that was a funny movie.

824

00:28:22,434 --> 00:28:25,923

Brec Bassinger: I haven't people in this past week and I

825

00:28:25,944 --> 00:28:27,232

Brec Bassinger: was at a con and, like you, need to watch

826

00:28:27,272 --> 00:28:28,837

Brec Bassinger: Idiocracy because I haven't seen that

827

00:28:28,937 --> 00:28:30,972

Brec Bassinger: either you know what that's.

828

00:28:31,513 --> 00:28:33,439

Marc Preston: I mean that's got to be a homework

829

00:28:33,479 --> 00:28:34,181

Marc Preston: assignment for you.

830

00:28:34,241 --> 00:28:36,154

Marc Preston: I mean you've got to see Idiocracy, because

831

00:28:36,194 --> 00:28:36,796

Marc Preston: that's just.

832

00:28:37,558 --> 00:28:41,358

Marc Preston: That was such a well done social commentary

833

00:28:41,398 --> 00:28:42,784

Marc Preston: for kind of where we are right now, which

834

00:28:42,825 --> 00:28:43,387

Marc Preston: is kind of funny.

835

00:28:43,929 --> 00:28:47,079

Marc Preston: So I noticed you're we were.

836

00:28:47,219 --> 00:28:48,303

Marc Preston: I was watching last night.

837

00:28:49,747 --> 00:28:51,372

Marc Preston: It's a very physical thing you're doing on

838

00:28:51,412 --> 00:28:53,277

Marc Preston: the show and I you know, with your

839

00:28:53,297 --> 00:28:55,072

Marc Preston: background and cheerleading and everything,

840

00:28:55,474 --> 00:28:57,703

Marc Preston: how much of it are you actually doing?

841

00:28:58,647 --> 00:29:01,858

Marc Preston: Are you doing a fair amount of the flipping

842

00:29:01,898 --> 00:29:03,362

Marc Preston: around and stuff, or is that?

843

00:29:03,724 --> 00:29:05,333

Brec Bassinger: are they kind of throwing somebody else in

844

00:29:05,353 --> 00:29:06,740

Brec Bassinger: there to kind of on the more technical

845

00:29:06,781 --> 00:29:09,394

Brec Bassinger: things, I definitely get to do some of it

846

00:29:09,555 --> 00:29:11,505

Brec Bassinger: and as the seasons have gone on, they've

847

00:29:11,565 --> 00:29:13,152

Brec Bassinger: let me do more and more, as I've just

848

00:29:13,192 --> 00:29:16,182

Brec Bassinger: gotten more experience and a lot of times.

849

00:29:17,146 --> 00:29:19,573

Brec Bassinger: The two reasons I don't get to do my own

850

00:29:19,633 --> 00:29:22,141

Brec Bassinger: stunts would be A it's just way too unsafe

851

00:29:22,181 --> 00:29:23,513

Brec Bassinger: and I could actually get really hurt

852

00:29:23,573 --> 00:29:25,017

Brec Bassinger: they're like we are not shutting production

853

00:29:25,057 --> 00:29:25,298

Brec Bassinger: down.

854

00:29:26,000 --> 00:29:28,562

Brec Bassinger: Or B we just don't have enough time on set

855

00:29:28,602 --> 00:29:30,251

Brec Bassinger: for me to learn the choreography which that

856

00:29:30,332 --> 00:29:32,064

Brec Bassinger: one's always a stinker because it's like if

857

00:29:32,084 --> 00:29:33,653

Brec Bassinger: we had a little bit more time I'd be able

858

00:29:33,693 --> 00:29:33,874

Brec Bassinger: to.

859

00:29:34,637 --> 00:29:36,324

Brec Bassinger: But, that being said, I've been so

860

00:29:36,384 --> 00:29:38,331

Brec Bassinger: fortunate to get to do quite a bit of it,

861

00:29:39,895 --> 00:29:41,660

Brec Bassinger: although my stunt double, christina basket

862

00:29:41,900 --> 00:29:42,522

Brec Bassinger: she was the stunt.

863

00:29:42,562 --> 00:29:45,100

Brec Bassinger: I always tell people this because it's cool.

864

00:29:45,964 --> 00:29:47,891

Brec Bassinger: She was the stunt double for Aria on Game

865

00:29:47,911 --> 00:29:52,260

Brec Bassinger: of Thrones and she is just kick butt

866

00:29:52,400 --> 00:29:53,221

Brec Bassinger: coolest chick.

867

00:29:53,302 --> 00:29:56,575

Brec Bassinger: I she's the other part of Stargirl and I

868

00:29:56,615 --> 00:29:58,981

Brec Bassinger: never get upset when she she gets to do the

869

00:29:59,021 --> 00:30:00,773

Brec Bassinger: stunt because she always makes me look so

870

00:30:00,813 --> 00:30:01,133

Brec Bassinger: cool.

871

00:30:01,234 --> 00:30:03,138

Brec Bassinger: So either way, I'm happy.

872

00:30:03,840 --> 00:30:05,171

Marc Preston: It kind of shift gears a little bit.

873

00:30:05,231 --> 00:30:08,760

Marc Preston: You did some philanthropic work with the

874

00:30:08,780 --> 00:30:10,312

Marc Preston: Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

875

00:30:10,332 --> 00:30:11,274

Marc Preston: Are you still doing that?

876

00:30:11,735 --> 00:30:14,342

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, so I was diagnosed with type 1

877

00:30:14,370 --> 00:30:17,597

Brec Bassinger: diabetes when I was 8, so coming up to 15

878

00:30:17,657 --> 00:30:19,641

Brec Bassinger: years in January, which is crazy.

879

00:30:20,523 --> 00:30:22,495

Brec Bassinger: But obviously because of that it's very

880

00:30:22,555 --> 00:30:23,578

Brec Bassinger: near and dear to my heart.

881

00:30:23,738 --> 00:30:26,815

Brec Bassinger: So I'm a national ambassador with JDRF.

882

00:30:26,915 --> 00:30:29,081

Brec Bassinger: I've I've gone to Children's Congress with

883

00:30:29,121 --> 00:30:33,900

Brec Bassinger: them and lots, lots of fun stuff, but big

884

00:30:33,961 --> 00:30:34,745

Brec Bassinger: advocate for that.

885

00:30:34,846 --> 00:30:36,052

Marc Preston: Well, it's got to be a very cool thing to

886

00:30:36,072 --> 00:30:37,479

Marc Preston: be able to use what you're doing now to

887

00:30:37,560 --> 00:30:40,473

Marc Preston: actually kind of kind of help something

888

00:30:40,513 --> 00:30:42,378

Marc Preston: you're experiencing and be able to help

889

00:30:42,438 --> 00:30:42,839

Marc Preston: other kids.

890

00:30:43,140 --> 00:30:45,336

Marc Preston: You see travel somewhat regularly to do

891

00:30:45,376 --> 00:30:45,556

Marc Preston: that.

892

00:30:46,078 --> 00:30:48,708

Brec Bassinger: I used to, but obviously with when the

893

00:30:48,728 --> 00:30:51,881

Brec Bassinger: pandemic, it definitely my travel work with

894

00:30:51,901 --> 00:30:53,990

Brec Bassinger: them slowed down a whole lot, specifically

895

00:30:54,050 --> 00:30:55,798

Brec Bassinger: because most diabetics are immune,

896

00:30:55,818 --> 00:30:58,911

Brec Bassinger: compromised, so doesn't really make sense

897

00:30:58,972 --> 00:31:01,159

Brec Bassinger: for us to be traveling unless it's as safe

898

00:31:01,199 --> 00:31:01,802

Brec Bassinger: as possible.

899

00:31:03,367 --> 00:31:05,417

Brec Bassinger: But no, I actually I haven't even gone to a

900

00:31:05,457 --> 00:31:06,784

Brec Bassinger: JDRF walk in a minute.

901

00:31:06,804 --> 00:31:08,291

Brec Bassinger: I used to do that, a few of those every

902

00:31:08,351 --> 00:31:11,482

Brec Bassinger: year, but they obviously shut down and I

903

00:31:11,583 --> 00:31:14,191

Brec Bassinger: think I'm hoping 2023 they're back up and

904

00:31:14,211 --> 00:31:14,572

Brec Bassinger: going.

905

00:31:15,134 --> 00:31:18,602

Marc Preston: It's funny I was talking with oh gosh, who

906

00:31:18,622 --> 00:31:19,733

Marc Preston: wasn't speaking with you the other day.

907

00:31:21,039 --> 00:31:22,485

Marc Preston: I clearly haven't had enough coffee today.

908

00:31:23,108 --> 00:31:23,570

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, me too.

909

00:31:23,590 --> 00:31:25,198

Brec Bassinger: I'm like over here, like yawning, and I

910

00:31:25,238 --> 00:31:27,328

Brec Bassinger: feel so rude, but it really is just the.

911

00:31:27,550 --> 00:31:28,533

Brec Bassinger: It's also the time of day.

912

00:31:28,573 --> 00:31:29,436

Brec Bassinger: This is like nap time.

913

00:31:29,637 --> 00:31:31,858

Marc Preston: Well, I mean I was talking to Shay Wiggum I

914

00:31:31,878 --> 00:31:32,985

Marc Preston: was speaking with the other day and he's

915

00:31:33,005 --> 00:31:34,093

Marc Preston: like, excuse me, I have to hang on one

916

00:31:34,113 --> 00:31:34,274

Marc Preston: second.

917

00:31:34,294 --> 00:31:35,463

Marc Preston: He had to run his front door and get his

918

00:31:35,524 --> 00:31:37,855

Marc Preston: nose swabbed and it's just the whole nose

919

00:31:37,875 --> 00:31:41,147

Marc Preston: swab thing with with working on sets that

920

00:31:41,287 --> 00:31:41,809

Marc Preston: it's like.

921

00:31:41,990 --> 00:31:43,676

Marc Preston: This movie on Netflix is funny.

922

00:31:44,218 --> 00:31:45,101

Marc Preston: The the bubble.

923

00:31:45,603 --> 00:31:46,205

Brec Bassinger: Oh yeah.

924

00:31:46,406 --> 00:31:46,807

Marc Preston: That was.

925

00:31:47,068 --> 00:31:49,395

Marc Preston: It was hilarious because it seems to be a

926

00:31:49,596 --> 00:31:50,880

Marc Preston: big part of your life over the last.

927

00:31:50,900 --> 00:31:52,714

Marc Preston: If you want to film, you're constantly

928

00:31:52,754 --> 00:31:53,336

Marc Preston: being tested.

929

00:31:53,817 --> 00:31:55,261

Marc Preston: Was that just a real pain in the butt or

930

00:31:55,330 --> 00:31:57,258

Marc Preston: you just kind of like whatever you know?

931

00:31:57,921 --> 00:32:00,411

Brec Bassinger: It took an adjusting period to get used to

932

00:32:00,531 --> 00:32:03,399

Brec Bassinger: it and first season or the first season

933

00:32:03,439 --> 00:32:04,662

Brec Bassinger: back, which was our second season.

934

00:32:05,231 --> 00:32:10,119

Brec Bassinger: We started September of 2020 and it was

935

00:32:10,260 --> 00:32:11,224

Brec Bassinger: really intense.

936

00:32:11,335 --> 00:32:13,803

Brec Bassinger: I mean, there was, we had to stay six feet

937

00:32:13,903 --> 00:32:15,719

Brec Bassinger: from everyone unless we were filming a

938

00:32:15,819 --> 00:32:17,900

Brec Bassinger: scene which you don't realize, but that's

939

00:32:17,940 --> 00:32:19,599

Brec Bassinger: extremely hard when there's 200 crew

940

00:32:19,619 --> 00:32:20,021

Brec Bassinger: members.

941

00:32:22,015 --> 00:32:24,344

Brec Bassinger: And then I've probably been no swabbed

942

00:32:24,435 --> 00:32:28,297

Brec Bassinger: north of 250 times at this point, but it

943

00:32:28,337 --> 00:32:30,805

Brec Bassinger: definitely just took some getting used to,

944

00:32:30,915 --> 00:32:32,252

Brec Bassinger: but then it just became an everyday

945

00:32:32,272 --> 00:32:32,454

Brec Bassinger: practice.

946

00:32:32,555 --> 00:32:33,841

Marc Preston: Yeah, because I noticed like whenever I go

947

00:32:33,955 --> 00:32:36,376

Marc Preston: when I'd go from a trailer to a set you've

948

00:32:36,396 --> 00:32:38,744

Marc Preston: got to walk through crowds of PAs and stuff.

949

00:32:38,815 --> 00:32:40,737

Marc Preston: So that's almost got to be like Moses

950

00:32:40,797 --> 00:32:42,097

Marc Preston: opening up the Red Sea and people just

951

00:32:42,117 --> 00:32:42,840

Marc Preston: moving out of the way.

952

00:32:42,915 --> 00:32:44,862

Marc Preston: Is that there's so many logistics, you know?

953

00:32:45,815 --> 00:32:48,464

Brec Bassinger: And then we had COVID patrol officers.

954

00:32:49,037 --> 00:32:51,144

Brec Bassinger: The second season we probably had about 25

955

00:32:51,184 --> 00:32:53,061

Brec Bassinger: people in these COVID vests walking around

956

00:32:53,121 --> 00:32:55,280

Brec Bassinger: our set like yelling at people if they were

957

00:32:55,300 --> 00:32:57,037

Brec Bassinger: too close to each other or if they had

958

00:32:57,077 --> 00:32:59,058

Brec Bassinger: their masks down or their mask wasn't

959

00:32:59,078 --> 00:33:00,102

Brec Bassinger: covering their nose.

960

00:33:01,535 --> 00:33:03,683

Brec Bassinger: But then third season it was a little bit

961

00:33:03,743 --> 00:33:05,440

Brec Bassinger: lighter and also we were like used to it

962

00:33:05,480 --> 00:33:07,059

Brec Bassinger: from second season, so maybe it just felt

963

00:33:07,099 --> 00:33:07,380

Brec Bassinger: lighter.

964

00:33:07,775 --> 00:33:09,241

Marc Preston: Now real quick, what's the movie you're

965

00:33:09,261 --> 00:33:10,660

Marc Preston: saying You're with Sean Aston.

966

00:33:10,700 --> 00:33:11,383

Marc Preston: What's the name of it?

967

00:33:11,575 --> 00:33:12,178

Brec Bassinger: Man in the White.

968

00:33:12,218 --> 00:33:13,282

Marc Preston: Van man in the White Van.

969

00:33:13,616 --> 00:33:14,901

Marc Preston: Do y'all have a release date on that?

970

00:33:15,475 --> 00:33:17,716

Brec Bassinger: I don't think there's a release date, not

971

00:33:17,736 --> 00:33:18,379

Brec Bassinger: that I know of.

972

00:33:19,397 --> 00:33:22,184

Marc Preston: Sean, he just seems like just the nicest of

973

00:33:22,204 --> 00:33:22,705

Marc Preston: guys.

974

00:33:23,775 --> 00:33:25,402

Brec Bassinger: He is like truly.

975

00:33:25,695 --> 00:33:27,342

Marc Preston: You know what, actually what I love to do

976

00:33:27,382 --> 00:33:28,638

Marc Preston: towards you know the interview.

977

00:33:29,080 --> 00:33:30,999

Marc Preston: Just chatting I got something I call my

978

00:33:31,019 --> 00:33:32,938

Marc Preston: seven questions I like to throw out just

979

00:33:33,299 --> 00:33:34,082

Marc Preston: purely for fun.

980

00:33:34,383 --> 00:33:36,336

Marc Preston: Love it One of the questions I love we've

981

00:33:36,496 --> 00:33:37,762

Marc Preston: kind of touched on this a little bit

982

00:33:37,815 --> 00:33:40,259

Marc Preston: because I'm a food nerd but what is your

983

00:33:40,600 --> 00:33:41,764

Marc Preston: favorite comfort food?

984

00:33:41,835 --> 00:33:43,440

Marc Preston: That thing that maybe you miss, or

985

00:33:43,521 --> 00:33:45,778

Marc Preston: something that you're like man, you know,

986

00:33:45,818 --> 00:33:46,702

Marc Preston: I'm just craving it.

987

00:33:47,155 --> 00:33:48,821

Brec Bassinger: Probably pizza.

988

00:33:50,337 --> 00:33:54,226

Brec Bassinger: I got diagnosed with celiac three years ago,

989

00:33:54,735 --> 00:33:57,478

Brec Bassinger: so I'm on a very strict annoyingly strict

990

00:33:57,539 --> 00:33:58,522

Brec Bassinger: gluten-free diet.

991

00:33:59,595 --> 00:34:01,542

Brec Bassinger: But I have found a couple good gluten-free

992

00:34:01,602 --> 00:34:04,082

Brec Bassinger: pizzas and it's made its way back into my

993

00:34:04,122 --> 00:34:05,520

Brec Bassinger: heart, cause for a while I hated all

994

00:34:05,540 --> 00:34:07,559

Brec Bassinger: gluten-free pizzas, so it left, but it's

995

00:34:07,599 --> 00:34:07,760

Brec Bassinger: back.

996

00:34:07,835 --> 00:34:08,760

Marc Preston: Yeah, my oldest daughter.

997

00:34:09,458 --> 00:34:10,422

Marc Preston: We thought she may have that.

998

00:34:10,555 --> 00:34:12,498

Marc Preston: Well, she, you know I we have something.

999

00:34:12,558 --> 00:34:15,039

Marc Preston: I think she got it from me where it's pizza

Speaker:

00:34:15,060 --> 00:34:17,218

Marc Preston: can kind of, without going into

Speaker:

00:34:17,258 --> 00:34:18,303

Marc Preston: gastrointestinal stuff.

Speaker:

00:34:18,335 --> 00:34:19,780

Marc Preston: Well, let's say that sometimes it causes

Speaker:

00:34:19,800 --> 00:34:19,961

Marc Preston: issues.

Speaker:

00:34:20,755 --> 00:34:21,920

Marc Preston: But I don't know if they make.

Speaker:

00:34:22,155 --> 00:34:24,002

Marc Preston: For some reason, I think they may be doing

Speaker:

00:34:24,022 --> 00:34:26,362

Marc Preston: gluten-free, but Campesies I don't know if

Speaker:

00:34:26,382 --> 00:34:27,719

Marc Preston: you've ever had Campesies pizza.

Speaker:

00:34:28,235 --> 00:34:29,179

Marc Preston: Oh, that's the jam.

Speaker:

00:34:29,975 --> 00:34:30,658

Marc Preston: It'll seek it out.

Speaker:

00:34:31,235 --> 00:34:35,022

Marc Preston: If they have one, you want some In Texas,

Speaker:

00:34:35,062 --> 00:34:37,461

Marc Preston: of course, but the now, the next question

Speaker:

00:34:37,501 --> 00:34:38,736

Marc Preston: is who are three people if you're to sit

Speaker:

00:34:38,756 --> 00:34:39,841

Marc Preston: down and have a cup of coffee?

Speaker:

00:34:40,435 --> 00:34:41,278

Marc Preston: Who are three people?

Speaker:

00:34:41,559 --> 00:34:43,097

Marc Preston: You know, living or not, that you would

Speaker:

00:34:43,197 --> 00:34:45,078

Marc Preston: love to spend a few hours just talking

Speaker:

00:34:45,138 --> 00:34:45,680

Marc Preston: story with.

Speaker:

00:34:46,555 --> 00:34:49,277

Brec Bassinger: Three people, I will go.

Speaker:

00:34:49,818 --> 00:34:52,143

Brec Bassinger: They're going to be like three polar

Speaker:

00:34:52,263 --> 00:34:52,764

Brec Bassinger: opposites.

Speaker:

00:34:53,465 --> 00:34:53,846

Marc Preston: Perfect.

Speaker:

00:34:54,127 --> 00:34:54,868

Brec Bassinger: Julie Andrews.

Speaker:

00:34:56,496 --> 00:34:58,001

Brec Bassinger: I grew up just loving her.

Speaker:

00:34:58,402 --> 00:34:59,164

Brec Bassinger: Still do love her.

Speaker:

00:35:00,858 --> 00:35:03,625

Brec Bassinger: Tycho Vatiti, because he just seems like a

Speaker:

00:35:03,906 --> 00:35:05,298

Brec Bassinger: chap chappy lad.

Speaker:

00:35:05,995 --> 00:35:10,406

Brec Bassinger: And then Elon Musk, because he is just an

Speaker:

00:35:10,466 --> 00:35:12,358

Brec Bassinger: anomaly to me and I want to be like what do

Speaker:

00:35:12,378 --> 00:35:13,322

Brec Bassinger: you eat for breakfast?

Speaker:

00:35:13,495 --> 00:35:14,761

Brec Bassinger: What does Elon Musk eat for breakfast?

Speaker:

00:35:14,975 --> 00:35:15,980

Brec Bassinger: I don't know and I want to know.

Speaker:

00:35:16,295 --> 00:35:17,586

Marc Preston: He's kind of like an alien, just like okay,

Speaker:

00:35:17,715 --> 00:35:19,821

Marc Preston: you're just doing something that's

Speaker:

00:35:20,082 --> 00:35:21,326

Marc Preston: affecting our culture.

Speaker:

00:35:21,836 --> 00:35:22,819

Marc Preston: How did you get the?

Speaker:

00:35:22,859 --> 00:35:24,103

Marc Preston: Yeah, I'm there with you.

Speaker:

00:35:24,424 --> 00:35:24,825

Brec Bassinger: Yeah.

Speaker:

00:35:25,335 --> 00:35:28,757

Marc Preston: Now next question celebrity crush.

Speaker:

00:35:29,018 --> 00:35:30,764

Marc Preston: Who was your first celebrity crush when you

Speaker:

00:35:30,804 --> 00:35:31,105

Marc Preston: were young?

Speaker:

00:35:31,475 --> 00:35:35,866

Brec Bassinger: Oh, my first celebrity crush probably Zac

Speaker:

00:35:35,946 --> 00:35:38,379

Brec Bassinger: Efron, because high school musical.

Speaker:

00:35:38,915 --> 00:35:39,780

Marc Preston: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

00:35:39,935 --> 00:35:40,638

Brec Bassinger: Loved all this music.

Speaker:

00:35:41,175 --> 00:35:42,300

Marc Preston: Yeah, he, every time I look at him I'm

Speaker:

00:35:42,320 --> 00:35:43,620

Marc Preston: going, damn, I got to get to the gym and

Speaker:

00:35:43,640 --> 00:35:44,021

Marc Preston: work out.

Speaker:

00:35:44,061 --> 00:35:45,260

Marc Preston: Man, he's just he's, you know.

Speaker:

00:35:47,301 --> 00:35:47,983

Brec Bassinger: He's in good shape.

Speaker:

00:35:48,855 --> 00:35:50,796

Marc Preston: Now the next question is if you're going to

Speaker:

00:35:50,816 --> 00:35:54,637

Marc Preston: be going to an exotic island, somewhere you

Speaker:

00:35:54,657 --> 00:35:55,701

Marc Preston: actually want to be, but there's no

Speaker:

00:35:55,761 --> 00:35:56,123

Marc Preston: internet.

Speaker:

00:35:56,295 --> 00:35:57,921

Marc Preston: Okay, there's no way to stream, or anything.

Speaker:

00:35:58,575 --> 00:36:01,904

Marc Preston: What DVD of a movie and what album or CD

Speaker:

00:36:02,835 --> 00:36:03,559

Marc Preston: would you bring with you?

Speaker:

00:36:04,155 --> 00:36:06,944

Brec Bassinger: I'll go album or CD, I'm just gonna.

Speaker:

00:36:07,295 --> 00:36:08,460

Marc Preston: You're going to be there for a whole year

Speaker:

00:36:08,480 --> 00:36:08,540

Marc Preston: now.

Speaker:

00:36:09,256 --> 00:36:09,939

Brec Bassinger: Oh, a whole year.

Speaker:

00:36:09,979 --> 00:36:13,824

Brec Bassinger: Okay, I'm going to go with the Beatles top

Speaker:

00:36:13,864 --> 00:36:17,122

Brec Bassinger: hits because I feel like they.

Speaker:

00:36:17,503 --> 00:36:19,037

Brec Bassinger: There's a mood for everything, but overall

Speaker:

00:36:19,057 --> 00:36:21,276

Brec Bassinger: it'll just keep me happy and vibey and not

Speaker:

00:36:21,357 --> 00:36:21,919

Brec Bassinger: stressed.

Speaker:

00:36:24,479 --> 00:36:29,091

Brec Bassinger: And a movie I'm going to go with she's the

Speaker:

00:36:29,151 --> 00:36:31,402

Brec Bassinger: man with Amanda Byman, channing Tatum.

Speaker:

00:36:31,835 --> 00:36:33,135

Brec Bassinger: I believe, it came out in 2008.

Speaker:

00:36:33,135 --> 00:36:34,590

Marc Preston: I know exactly what it's to fucking do.

Speaker:

00:36:35,196 --> 00:36:35,597

Brec Bassinger: Yeah.

Speaker:

00:36:35,898 --> 00:36:37,317

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, if you have daughters, they

Speaker:

00:36:37,337 --> 00:36:38,240

Brec Bassinger: definitely watch that.

Speaker:

00:36:38,975 --> 00:36:40,300

Brec Bassinger: But I just love that movie.

Speaker:

00:36:40,360 --> 00:36:43,018

Brec Bassinger: It Makes Me Laugh and I've watched it

Speaker:

00:36:43,058 --> 00:36:45,065

Brec Bassinger: probably about 50 times and I'm not tired

Speaker:

00:36:45,125 --> 00:36:46,873

Brec Bassinger: of it, so I think it could last me another

Speaker:

00:36:46,893 --> 00:36:46,995

Brec Bassinger: year.

Speaker:

00:36:47,095 --> 00:36:48,721

Marc Preston: So funny you forgot about that movie with

Speaker:

00:36:48,741 --> 00:36:49,263

Marc Preston: Channing Tatum.

Speaker:

00:36:49,355 --> 00:36:50,961

Marc Preston: I forgot you know he was a younger actor at

Speaker:

00:36:51,021 --> 00:36:51,603

Marc Preston: one point in time.

Speaker:

00:36:51,775 --> 00:36:52,116

Marc Preston: I forgot that.

Speaker:

00:36:52,618 --> 00:36:52,899

Marc Preston: Yeah.

Speaker:

00:36:53,975 --> 00:36:56,056

Marc Preston: Now if you were to say next question from

Speaker:

00:36:56,076 --> 00:36:57,441

Marc Preston: the time you wake up to the time you put

Speaker:

00:36:57,481 --> 00:36:58,758

Marc Preston: your head down to the bed at night, the

Speaker:

00:36:58,839 --> 00:37:00,356

Marc Preston: definition of a perfect day, like the

Speaker:

00:37:00,416 --> 00:37:02,956

Marc Preston: component parts of what would happen, just

Speaker:

00:37:02,976 --> 00:37:04,281

Marc Preston: certain things you would love to have be a

Speaker:

00:37:04,361 --> 00:37:05,841

Marc Preston: part of that perfect day for you.

Speaker:

00:37:05,915 --> 00:37:06,477

Marc Preston: What would that be?

Speaker:

00:37:07,461 --> 00:37:07,882

Brec Bassinger: Coffee.

Speaker:

00:37:08,495 --> 00:37:10,703

Brec Bassinger: Someone brings me coffee to my bed.

Speaker:

00:37:10,875 --> 00:37:12,277

Brec Bassinger: If we're going to be specific, that just

Speaker:

00:37:12,297 --> 00:37:13,060

Brec Bassinger: sounds lovely.

Speaker:

00:37:13,235 --> 00:37:13,938

Brec Bassinger: Hang on, let me just kind of.

Speaker:

00:37:14,335 --> 00:37:15,895

Marc Preston: Let me just kind of swim in that idea of

Speaker:

00:37:15,915 --> 00:37:17,040

Marc Preston: somebody bringing me coffee.

Speaker:

00:37:17,715 --> 00:37:19,522

Marc Preston: That sounds just like my son was telling me

Speaker:

00:37:19,582 --> 00:37:21,200

Marc Preston: last night that he heard somebody at his

Speaker:

00:37:21,240 --> 00:37:24,241

Marc Preston: high school as teacher was giving extra

Speaker:

00:37:24,281 --> 00:37:25,986

Marc Preston: favors to kids who would bring coffee to

Speaker:

00:37:26,026 --> 00:37:26,106

Marc Preston: them.

Speaker:

00:37:26,175 --> 00:37:27,996

Marc Preston: I was like if I was a school teacher and a

Speaker:

00:37:28,036 --> 00:37:30,023

Marc Preston: kid showed up with like a hot cup of coffee,

Speaker:

00:37:30,135 --> 00:37:31,862

Marc Preston: I mean like, yeah, you're going to get a

Speaker:

00:37:31,882 --> 00:37:33,801

Marc Preston: little better grade for me, you know.

Speaker:

00:37:33,995 --> 00:37:35,662

Brec Bassinger: Oh, 1,000%.

Speaker:

00:37:36,176 --> 00:37:38,644

Brec Bassinger: I would totally let them bribe me for

Speaker:

00:37:38,684 --> 00:37:40,118

Brec Bassinger: better grades, absolutely.

Speaker:

00:37:40,995 --> 00:37:42,320

Marc Preston: So we're starting off with a cup of coffee.

Speaker:

00:37:42,935 --> 00:37:43,578

Brec Bassinger: Cup of coffee.

Speaker:

00:37:44,015 --> 00:37:46,483

Brec Bassinger: I'm going to say I'm in LA and it's going

Speaker:

00:37:46,503 --> 00:37:47,345

Brec Bassinger: to be perfect weather.

Speaker:

00:37:47,415 --> 00:37:49,583

Brec Bassinger: It's going to be like 75 degrees and sunny.

Speaker:

00:37:49,956 --> 00:37:53,599

Brec Bassinger: I like it warmer and I'm going to go hiking

Speaker:

00:37:53,920 --> 00:37:56,019

Brec Bassinger: with my dog because I just love being

Speaker:

00:37:56,120 --> 00:37:56,521

Brec Bassinger: outdoors.

Speaker:

00:37:57,175 --> 00:37:58,099

Brec Bassinger: That's my morning.

Speaker:

00:37:58,735 --> 00:38:02,165

Brec Bassinger: I would love to have an audition, a live

Speaker:

00:38:02,445 --> 00:38:02,826

Brec Bassinger: audition.

Speaker:

00:38:02,915 --> 00:38:04,121

Brec Bassinger: That just sounds so wonderful.

Speaker:

00:38:04,215 --> 00:38:07,365

Brec Bassinger: I've had a live audition in two and a half

Speaker:

00:38:07,425 --> 00:38:10,584

Brec Bassinger: years two years, however long and it goes

Speaker:

00:38:10,644 --> 00:38:11,106

Brec Bassinger: swimmingly.

Speaker:

00:38:11,416 --> 00:38:14,298

Brec Bassinger: I crush it, I kill it and then after that I

Speaker:

00:38:14,358 --> 00:38:17,238

Brec Bassinger: like go get a celebratory slice of pizza

Speaker:

00:38:17,338 --> 00:38:18,342

Brec Bassinger: because why not?

Speaker:

00:38:18,515 --> 00:38:19,700

Marc Preston: There's a place I don't know if it's still

Speaker:

00:38:19,780 --> 00:38:20,563

Marc Preston: in Santa Monica.

Speaker:

00:38:20,715 --> 00:38:23,404

Marc Preston: But there was this guy who when I lived out

Speaker:

00:38:23,444 --> 00:38:25,781

Marc Preston: there, who is from I don't know if he's

Speaker:

00:38:25,841 --> 00:38:27,478

Marc Preston: from Brooklyn or not, but he had some like

Speaker:

00:38:27,558 --> 00:38:30,161

Marc Preston: chemists come in and look at the water

Speaker:

00:38:30,221 --> 00:38:32,999

Marc Preston: composition and got it to whatever be like

Speaker:

00:38:33,039 --> 00:38:34,357

Marc Preston: the water in Brooklyn, because they say the

Speaker:

00:38:34,397 --> 00:38:35,558

Marc Preston: pizza's better in New York because the

Speaker:

00:38:35,598 --> 00:38:38,511

Marc Preston: water Basically the pizza is like New York

Speaker:

00:38:38,551 --> 00:38:38,932

Marc Preston: pizza.

Speaker:

00:38:39,152 --> 00:38:40,917

Marc Preston: So I don't know what it's called.

Speaker:

00:38:41,105 --> 00:38:43,046

Brec Bassinger: That sounds extremely extra, like they

Speaker:

00:38:43,106 --> 00:38:45,552

Brec Bassinger: really just did the most, for probably not

Speaker:

00:38:46,313 --> 00:38:47,717

Brec Bassinger: what the actual did.

Speaker:

00:38:49,308 --> 00:38:51,275

Marc Preston: So how would you like to wrap your day?

Speaker:

00:38:52,589 --> 00:38:53,652

Marc Preston: You know, towards the end of the day, how

Speaker:

00:38:53,673 --> 00:38:54,034

Marc Preston: would it be?

Speaker:

00:38:54,626 --> 00:38:56,072

Brec Bassinger: A game night with a group of friends.

Speaker:

00:38:56,365 --> 00:38:57,330

Brec Bassinger: I love board games.

Speaker:

00:38:57,865 --> 00:39:00,193

Brec Bassinger: They I think it's so fun because no one's

Speaker:

00:39:00,253 --> 00:39:00,855

Brec Bassinger: on their phone.

Speaker:

00:39:01,005 --> 00:39:02,210

Brec Bassinger: You're just interacting with people.

Speaker:

00:39:02,505 --> 00:39:04,791

Brec Bassinger: I tend to go towards more for, like, social

Speaker:

00:39:04,831 --> 00:39:07,678

Brec Bassinger: interaction, games like mafia or resistance,

Speaker:

00:39:07,885 --> 00:39:09,426

Brec Bassinger: if you're familiar with either of those no,

Speaker:

00:39:09,466 --> 00:39:10,269

Brec Bassinger: I'm not actually.

Speaker:

00:39:10,370 --> 00:39:11,888

Marc Preston: And then it yeah, now you've given me a

Speaker:

00:39:11,928 --> 00:39:12,631

Marc Preston: homework assignment.

Speaker:

00:39:13,185 --> 00:39:14,369

Marc Preston: Now the last question I got for you if

Speaker:

00:39:14,389 --> 00:39:16,175

Marc Preston: you're going to jump into a DeLorean, you

Speaker:

00:39:16,215 --> 00:39:17,548

Marc Preston: know back to the future reference, of

Speaker:

00:39:17,588 --> 00:39:19,753

Marc Preston: course, but and you're going to cruise back

Speaker:

00:39:19,773 --> 00:39:21,036

Marc Preston: to when you're 16 years old.

Speaker:

00:39:22,389 --> 00:39:24,107

Marc Preston: Or even earlier and you got a piece of

Speaker:

00:39:24,127 --> 00:39:26,513

Marc Preston: advice to give yourself, either to make at

Speaker:

00:39:26,574 --> 00:39:27,676

Marc Preston: that moment in your life a little bit

Speaker:

00:39:27,717 --> 00:39:29,148

Marc Preston: better, or maybe put you on a different

Speaker:

00:39:29,208 --> 00:39:31,394

Marc Preston: path, to kind of like really you know, just,

Speaker:

00:39:32,246 --> 00:39:33,572

Marc Preston: in other words, a piece of advice that

Speaker:

00:39:33,612 --> 00:39:35,642

Marc Preston: would really kind of alter things in a cool

Speaker:

00:39:35,662 --> 00:39:36,305

Marc Preston: direction for you.

Speaker:

00:39:36,365 --> 00:39:37,992

Marc Preston: What would that piece of advice be?

Speaker:

00:39:39,307 --> 00:39:45,751

Brec Bassinger: Um, I would say, if I'm going to be silly,

Speaker:

00:39:46,313 --> 00:39:48,008

Brec Bassinger: my only this is something I want to tell my

Speaker:

00:39:48,068 --> 00:39:50,635

Brec Bassinger: younger self is invest in real estate as

Speaker:

00:39:50,655 --> 00:39:52,068

Brec Bassinger: soon as you can, and it doesn't have to be

Speaker:

00:39:52,108 --> 00:39:52,710

Brec Bassinger: in California.

Speaker:

00:39:53,152 --> 00:39:54,809

Marc Preston: Indeed, you know, I used to work on the

Speaker:

00:39:54,869 --> 00:39:55,652

Marc Preston: radio in Dallas.

Speaker:

00:39:55,692 --> 00:39:56,194

Marc Preston: It's so funny.

Speaker:

00:39:56,245 --> 00:39:59,799

Marc Preston: I remember people used to call from Roanoke,

Speaker:

00:40:00,241 --> 00:40:01,726

Marc Preston: you know, calling the request line, and I

Speaker:

00:40:01,746 --> 00:40:03,431

Marc Preston: always sound like the middle of nowhere to

Speaker:

00:40:03,471 --> 00:40:03,591

Marc Preston: me.

Speaker:

00:40:03,631 --> 00:40:05,115

Marc Preston: You know, because I'm a North Dallas kid

Speaker:

00:40:06,206 --> 00:40:08,113

Marc Preston: and I was out there to go see my cousin

Speaker:

00:40:08,326 --> 00:40:10,932

Marc Preston: You're a thought honest and I was driving,

Speaker:

00:40:11,005 --> 00:40:12,646

Marc Preston: I was like what happened out here.

Speaker:

00:40:12,646 --> 00:40:15,232

Marc Preston: I mean, texas is just exploding in terms of

Speaker:

00:40:15,292 --> 00:40:17,456

Marc Preston: development and people in traditionally

Speaker:

00:40:17,517 --> 00:40:18,258

Marc Preston: rural towns.

Speaker:

00:40:18,338 --> 00:40:20,098

Marc Preston: Now, like you, got Dallas Cowboys building

Speaker:

00:40:20,158 --> 00:40:21,005

Marc Preston: big houses out there.

Speaker:

00:40:21,085 --> 00:40:22,110

Marc Preston: It was just crazy.

Speaker:

00:40:22,605 --> 00:40:25,271

Marc Preston: So, yes, real estate smart idea, very smart

Speaker:

00:40:25,386 --> 00:40:27,534

Marc Preston: idea, but that's wonderful, man, I really

Speaker:

00:40:27,594 --> 00:40:28,135

Marc Preston: do appreciate.

Speaker:

00:40:28,276 --> 00:40:29,987

Marc Preston: This has been a lot of fun and I can't wait

Speaker:

00:40:30,007 --> 00:40:31,651

Marc Preston: to talk to my cousin and say, hey, you

Speaker:

00:40:31,691 --> 00:40:34,337

Marc Preston: worked with one of the people I spoke with

Speaker:

00:40:34,357 --> 00:40:34,678

Marc Preston: today.

Speaker:

00:40:35,126 --> 00:40:36,211

Brec Bassinger: I, that is so funny.

Speaker:

00:40:36,345 --> 00:40:38,353

Brec Bassinger: No, my whole family has gone to him.

Speaker:

00:40:38,666 --> 00:40:40,413

Brec Bassinger: He gave my other brother braces.

Speaker:

00:40:40,605 --> 00:40:43,686

Brec Bassinger: He replaced my other brother's tooth, like

Speaker:

00:40:43,806 --> 00:40:45,091

Brec Bassinger: really that is so funny.

Speaker:

00:40:45,151 --> 00:40:45,773

Marc Preston: No kidding.

Speaker:

00:40:45,994 --> 00:40:47,770

Brec Bassinger: He should, he actually might know, know my

Speaker:

00:40:47,810 --> 00:40:49,395

Brec Bassinger: name, if you, if you?

Speaker:

00:40:49,465 --> 00:40:51,838

Marc Preston: Yeah, he's, he is one of those guys that

Speaker:

00:40:51,898 --> 00:40:53,105

Marc Preston: remembers everybody and everything.

Speaker:

00:40:53,165 --> 00:40:54,611

Marc Preston: Actually, you know, my, my daughter was

Speaker:

00:40:54,632 --> 00:40:56,158

Marc Preston: wanting to know if she just waved to you

Speaker:

00:40:56,178 --> 00:40:57,524

Marc Preston: and say, hi, we were just watching your

Speaker:

00:40:57,544 --> 00:40:57,665

Marc Preston: life.

Speaker:

00:40:57,765 --> 00:40:58,568

Brec Bassinger: Oh baby, Of course yeah.

Speaker:

00:41:01,445 --> 00:41:03,930

Marc Preston: You can come say hi, hey, guess who her

Speaker:

00:41:04,010 --> 00:41:04,754

Marc Preston: orthodontist is.

Speaker:

00:41:05,398 --> 00:41:06,685

Announcer: Got sick, Got sick.

Speaker:

00:41:06,825 --> 00:41:08,249

Announcer: No, your cousin yeah.

Speaker:

00:41:08,269 --> 00:41:09,452

Marc Preston: Jeremy, that's Zachary.

Speaker:

00:41:09,813 --> 00:41:11,477

Brec Bassinger: Whoa, sorry, sorry.

Speaker:

00:41:11,565 --> 00:41:13,952

Brec Bassinger: My brother just walked in and he knocked

Speaker:

00:41:14,032 --> 00:41:14,954

Brec Bassinger: over my computer.

Speaker:

00:41:15,014 --> 00:41:17,411

Brec Bassinger: We're fine, no coffee was spilled.

Speaker:

00:41:17,965 --> 00:41:20,029

Brec Bassinger: Hey guys, what are y'all's names?

Speaker:

00:41:21,087 --> 00:41:21,469

Brec Bassinger: I'm Lily.

Speaker:

00:41:21,966 --> 00:41:24,551

Brec Bassinger: I'm Zach, lily, zach.

Speaker:

00:41:24,925 --> 00:41:26,812

Brec Bassinger: So would that mean my orthodontist is their

Speaker:

00:41:26,893 --> 00:41:27,113

Brec Bassinger: uncle.

Speaker:

00:41:27,446 --> 00:41:28,691

Marc Preston: It's the cousin.

Speaker:

00:41:29,065 --> 00:41:30,870

Brec Bassinger: Oh, so if it's your cousin, that would be

Speaker:

00:41:30,991 --> 00:41:32,736

Brec Bassinger: their second cousin.

Speaker:

00:41:33,205 --> 00:41:34,029

Brec Bassinger: Second cousin.

Speaker:

00:41:34,605 --> 00:41:35,992

Brec Bassinger: That always confuses me.

Speaker:

00:41:36,105 --> 00:41:38,253

Brec Bassinger: I can never like put that together.

Speaker:

00:41:38,445 --> 00:41:40,252

Marc Preston: I just say cousin and just leave it at that.

Speaker:

00:41:40,766 --> 00:41:42,853

Brec Bassinger: Yeah, because it gets confusing.

Speaker:

00:41:43,025 --> 00:41:44,632

Marc Preston: She's in Texas, by the way, and she likes

Speaker:

00:41:44,672 --> 00:41:44,893

Marc Preston: water.

Speaker:

00:41:46,089 --> 00:41:47,313

Brec Bassinger: I honey butter chicken biscuit.

Speaker:

00:41:47,485 --> 00:41:48,169

Brec Bassinger: Have you had one?

Speaker:

00:41:48,786 --> 00:41:49,349

Marc Preston: No no.

Speaker:

00:41:49,925 --> 00:41:51,709

Brec Bassinger: Next time you make your way to Texas, go to

Speaker:

00:41:51,729 --> 00:41:53,513

Brec Bassinger: Waterburger and have a honey butter chicken

Speaker:

00:41:53,553 --> 00:41:54,034

Brec Bassinger: biscuit.

Speaker:

00:41:54,314 --> 00:41:55,577

Brec Bassinger: That sounds good, yum.

Speaker:

00:41:55,937 --> 00:41:56,759

Marc Preston: I want to thank you again.

Speaker:

00:41:56,966 --> 00:41:57,850

Marc Preston: I really appreciate it.

Speaker:

00:41:58,065 --> 00:42:00,053

Brec Bassinger: It was nice to meet you guys and thank you,

Speaker:

00:42:00,073 --> 00:42:01,329

Brec Bassinger: Marc, it was good chatting with you.

Speaker:

00:42:03,425 --> 00:42:05,112
